Review: This VA is jam-packed with some of the scene's best liquid maestros, and it's of the movement for Liquid Drum & Bass 4 Autism, a group which seeks to raise awareness and money for those who have autism. Low:r, Furney, MsDos and more have gotten themselves involved, and the result is a lovely, serene walk through some of 174's most nonchalant moments. 'Eyes Closed' by Low:r is especially gorgeous, with his trademark organic sound fluttering in the wind of his creativity like usual. Changer is characteristically deep with 'Only To Be', and it's just the iceberg of what is a brilliant album for a brilliant cause.

Review: In Flagranti are the partnership of Alex Gloor and Sasa Crnobrnja. Both are from Switzerland and currently live in Basel and Paris respectively. The duo were originally inspired by the pioneering cosmic scene that emerged from '80s Italy, plus a general eclectic bag of genres (which you can all hear across this opus' 30 tracks) including "funk, rock, punk, afro, electronica, house, reggae, kraut, classic, glam, blues and hillbilly". Incidentally, 'Sprezzatura' is an Italian term defined in the Renaissance that means doing something extremely well without showing effort, and on the evidence of this joyful, mind-bending and next-level creation and it's impossible to disagree.

Review: We can think of few DJs more suited to compile a retrospective of killer 1990s house and garage than Z Records boss Joey Negro and Fanatix member Neil Pierce. It's perhaps unsurprising then that this follow-up to Negro's admired 2015 compilation is packed to the rafters with must-have treats. There are naturally some suitably big cuts present - see Kerri Chandler's fine mix of N-Joi's "Anthem" and Todd Terry's rub of Martha Walsh's "Runaround" - but for the most part the selections will be new to all but a small collection of veteran US garage enthusiasts. Review: Strangely, veteran soulful house vocalist Kenny Bobien has yet to release a full-length studio set, despite a career that now spans some 17 years. Still, at least we have Defined, an expansive, 13 track retrospective that showcases many of his best moments from arguably his most successful period, 1994 to 2005. Those who are already familiar with Bobien's urgent, soaring style will be immensely pleased - for the most part, Defined flits between huge gospel house belters ("I Shall Not Be Moved"), jaunty soul updates (Patti LaBelle cover "You Are My Friend"), skippy trad garage ("Rise Above The Storm") and impeccably produced smooth grooves ("Father").

Review: With 30 tracks to choose, there's no faulting the value for money on offer with this latest Salsoul collection, but a note of caution should perhaps be sounded: if you've only just discovered Salsoul and are doing some exploring, then this isn't the best collection to start with, because most of the label's best-loved tunes already featured on Volume 1, back in 2017. That potential commercial weakness is also, however, the album's greatest strength, because it's the more obscure cuts that will be of most interest to long-term fans... and there are plenty of both! With a mixture of ACTUAL original mixes plus a few contemporary rerubs from the likes of Dave Lee and Danny Krivit, this is a worthwhile and rewarding addition to the ever-growing roster of Salsoul comps.
