Review: Although they've delivered plenty of fine singles over the years, it's invariably Session Victim's albums that get us hot under the collar. This is primarily because it gives them a chance to showcase a wider range of grooves, tempos and instrumentations amongst the ear-pleasing dancefloor workouts. Their sunny disposition, noted sample-spotting ability and varied inspirations are all in evidence on the German duo's third full-length excursion. It's a deliciously evocative, enjoyable and mood enhancing affair that smilingly meanders between dreamy jazz-house bliss, Bossa-Balearic fusion, disco-sampling cheeriness, glistening slow jams, Afro-tinged deep house warmth and humid dub riddims (the impeccable "Castle For Sale"). In other words, it's another hugely enjoyable romp packed full of winning moments.

Review: Apologies for banging on about this, But Session Victim's recent Listen To Your Heart album is one of the best Balearic-minded house sets we've heard this year. It goes without saying, then, that this third sampler EP is packed full of playable goodness. While they've naturally included an obligatory slow jam (wonderfully dreamy Balearic beats cut "Castle For Sale") and a rush inducing, gradually building Balearic soundscape (EP highlight "Thermal Explorer"), the other two tracks jostle for position in the "best for peak-time plays" stakes. Choose between the tactile nu-disco/deep house fusion of "Head Over Heels" - all sweeping strings, bubbly synth bass and twinkling piano flourishes - and "Almost Midnight", a wonderful trip into disco deep house territory that's as rich and musically expansive as they come.

Review: This debut album from self-styled first lady of Beatdown, Lady Blacktronika, is full of the sort of atmospheric, strangely intoxicating compositions for which Detroitian deep house is famous. While she herself is not a Motor City resident, Akua Grant's music bears all the hallmarks of original Detroit beatdown. Think bumpin' late nights and smoking afterhours productions forged from FX-laden basslines, tactile chords and emotion-rich bouts of vocal freestyling. It's by far and away Grant's best work yet, and holds together remarkably well as a "proper album". If you dig effortlessly groovy deep house with a Motor City twist, check it - especially the jazzual epic "Desperately Seeking Theo".

Review: The DNBB revival releases continue with this timeless groove quartet from Lurch. Classic soulful drum & bass laced with space and restraint, each cut still crushes hearts and dancefloors.... The jazzy introspection on "Someday", the cosmic ebbs and flows of "Never You Mind", the poignant mistiness and sultry steps of "A Sadness" and the feel-good piano-slapping on "Head Over Heels" all still hit home just as perfectly and authentically as they did in 2014. Review: Dutch powerhouse Delsin bunkers down for another year with a choice selection of tracks taken from the label's marque artists, regulars and newcomers. The compilation showcases the label's tastemaking approach to embracing a somewhat unidentified strands of dub electro, a new and developing sound harnessed it seems by Delsin this year. Claro Intelcto slathers his track "Two Thousand" with more of the obscene basslines we love the British artist for (with a lighter alternative to be found on "Messages") while Conforce plays with pixelation and subtle subsonic electro pulses in "OI". Gunnar Haslam rivals Porter-Ricks-deepness in his track "Cacique De Poyais" while label boss Peel Seamus warms things up with Detroit-styled keys and synths to offset the deeper, melodic and shimmering dub of new talent His Master's Voice.

Review: Peel Seamus is the stage name for Delsin owner Marsel Van Der Wielen, and the label started back in 1996 with a cassette release from this project. Since then, Peel Seamus releases have been few and far between, so Susurro is a timely reminder of Marsel's talents. It is all the more remarkable given that these tracks were all recorded around 2000. On "Valve Pod" and "Absence In Reality", he delivers beautiful broken beat jams, while "Strawberry Hills" is a gloriously deep slice of techno soul and on "Head Over Heels" he drops a spine-tingling dance floor groove, lit up by the type of wide-eyed keys that prevailed on Derrick May records.
