Review: It seems that the nu-disco trend of re-edits is one that just keeps growing. Everyone from Siberia to Greece is doing it, and now the fever has spread to Ireland too in the form of the Get Down Edits label. Thankfully these guys don't (usually) pick the obvious stuff - Fingerman samples Luther Vandross' "Never Too Much" on "Too Much" so they lose points for that, but generally it's all good jazzy, funky retro jams.

Review: This VA is jam-packed with some of the scene's best liquid maestros, and it's of the movement for Liquid Drum & Bass 4 Autism, a group which seeks to raise awareness and money for those who have autism. Low:r, Furney, MsDos and more have gotten themselves involved, and the result is a lovely, serene walk through some of 174's most nonchalant moments. 'Eyes Closed' by Low:r is especially gorgeous, with his trademark organic sound fluttering in the wind of his creativity like usual. Changer is characteristically deep with 'Only To Be', and it's just the iceberg of what is a brilliant album for a brilliant cause.

Review: Five years have passed since AI's debut album Stand Alone. Five years worth waiting: After a string of universally received samplers, Glen and Zula finally unleash the whole set. Clearly in journey mode, the LP works really well as a listening experience as much as it does in the dance. From the gentle wafts and breezes of "Aroma" to the much darker DRS-drenched designs of "Pass The Buck" and the gritty, Metalheadz homage "The Source" back the majestic touches of two Dawn Wall collaborations, this is Artificial Intelligence at their most comprehensive and clear. Attention to detail has been paid to the finish of each track, ensuring a sheen and consistency that you really don't hear in drum & bass albums that often. Timeless.

Review: Editorial, the label who profess to wanting 'to make you move.... slowly, and with purpose', are back with the 19th instalment in their disco edit series. Containing six tracks of summery re-jigged fun, the EP kicks off with Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee's "Glow Of Dub'. Further highlights include the 70s porno-funk of B-Jam's "Infinity", the Herb-Alpert-does-The- Loveboat vibe of "What Makes You Believe" by The Lonely smoker, but it's Copycat's 'Heaven Or Hell", with it's killer arpeggiated riff and steel drums that's true gem here.

Review: Robert Hood's second album as Floorplan sees him hone in on disco, gospel and house influences to create a proper big room collection. As the driving, disco-loop heavy "Spin" and the ridiculously catchy "Music" demonstrate, the Detroit producer has stripped Floorplan of its techno influences. However, this does't mean he has simplified his message; accompanying the religious vocals on "The Heavens & The Earth" is a hypnotic organ riff, the slightly less pious "Good Thang" is a riotous siren-heavy jacker in the Reese tradition, and "He Can Save You", with its dense primal rhythm is reminiscent of Green Velvet as his madcap best. Hood may have chosen God, gospel and disco over the minimal nation, but he still knows how to lead his people onto the dancefloor.

Review: Since first emerging at the tail end of the '90s, Simon Green has become downtempo music's most marketable star, appealing just as much to occasional listeners and 40-something housewives as underground heads. Throughout that time, he's carefully shifted his sound to take in current trends and musical developments, whilst retaining a certain picturesque aesthetic. This fifth full-length, his fourth for Ninja Tune, continues that trend. Amongst the usual shuffling beats and twinkling melodies you'll find garage-esque vocal cut-ups, rubbery dancefloor rhythms, Floating Points style neo-jazz, string-laden two-step and some seriously wonky soul featuring vocals from Erykah Badu.

Review: While many folk went and got a dog during lockdown, yung Teezy here went and made his own 'Puppy'. Much cleaner than a mutt that bites all your furniture and makes a mess everywhere, this puppy growls softly and jumps buoyantly over the chiselled beats. There are plenty more dogs in the kennel, too; 'Denial' is a sleek Doberman of a tune, all pointy, pacy and tense, 'Heaven' is a golden retriever, all sweet when it wants to be but deep down a working dog , 'Bass In Ya Head' is a loyal staffy, all bubbly and up for mischief while 'Acknowledge' is a Dachshund, all snake like and with a bassine that yaps away cheerily before 'Rolling Deep' roars in like a rottweiler, all beefy and bulky but doesn't have to say much to make its presence know. You gonna bark all day little doggy?

Review: For the first volume in Running Back's "Super Sound" re-edit series, boss-man Gerd Janson joins forces with Shan to tart up two lesser-known cuts from the Gibson Brothers, a sibling trio best known for their 1978 Caribbean disco hit "Cuba". They begin with a brilliant, dub disco style re-arrangement of 1979 cut "Ooh What A Life", whose celebratory vocals, chic-like guitars, vibraphone solos and rising orchestration all combine to create maximum dancefloor joy. It has the feel of a summer disco anthem in waiting. Once you've got your breath back, check the duo's version of "Heaven", which re-casts the T.K Disco cut as a hard-wired, bass-heavy disco-house jam full of razor-sharp strings, jangling pianos and bustling electric bass.

Review: Surely one of the most consistent-yet-stealthy operators on Shogun this year, cool-handed Eddie Ed.It delivers yet another barbed soul dispatch on Friction's stainless stable. With its mild dubby touches and heads-down focus there's more than a whiff of classic Total Science to "Babylon Step", "Heaven Sent You" keeps our focus firmly on the floor with a beautiful BMT style far-away vocal technique and grumbling, sludgy bassline, "South City" will be the highlight for many thanks to its sunset vocal harmonies and angular Break-style drop while "Isolution" closes the show on a much gnarlier note with its depth-plunge bass funk. Review: Graeme "The Revenge" Clark has come a long way since his first full length, the 2011 re-edits meets original production set Reekin'structions. He's spent the last few years moving away from that style, instead focusing on indulging his passion for making original house productions, most of which have come out on his Roar Groove imprint. Here he continues that process with Love That Will Not Die, an all-action house set that should be classed as his debut album proper. Informed by various strains of classic house - Morales' Red Zone dubs, feel good Italian house, US deep house and more Balearic offerings - it's a typically evocative and intoxicating set, with tactile melodies, vintage sounds and shuffling drum machine rhythms throughout.

Review: The choice of Tony Humphries to mix Running Back's first label compilation is a significant one. Getting his big break in the early '80s as an understudy for the legendary Shep Pettibone's Kiss FM show, Humphries went on to become one of the defining DJs of house music's formative years, with residencies at New Jersey's Club Zanzibar and London's Ministry of Sound. His previous mixes illustrate his continuing ability to bridge dance music's past and present and his new one for Gerd Janson's imprint will mark its fifteenth anniversary. It is a timely reminder of what has made the Frankfurt powerhouse remain on many favourite label lists for over a decade. It's a mix of golden oldies and recent classics alike: from Todd Terje's smash hit from several years ago "Ragysh" and the anthemic "The Voice From Planet Love" by Precious System, through to more recent bombs. Two by Running back alumnus Shan ("Bassline Party"/"Work It") and the legendary Mr G's Motor City ode "Ben & Gerd" (Killin It M Day).

Review: Here JD Twitch, head honcho Glasgow institution Optimo, proudly presents a rarity from the unique artist Dennis Bovell. Described as being a 'musical polymath, top flight producer, dub legend and one of the finest artists the UK has ever produced', Bovell released an album in 1981 called Brain Damage which was an absolutely bonkers fusion of Afrobeat, funk, dub, jazz, blues and more. Everybody bought Duran Duran's record instead of course, but justice prevails here as both "Heaven" and "Smouche" are rescued and re-released from the LP. Also featured is the awesome Garland Jeffreys experiment "Escape Goat Dub". Absolutely essential.

Review: What better way to celebrate a decade in business than by getting Chicago deep house legend Larry Heard to select and mix a double-disc compilation of label highlights? Hats off, then, to Rebirth, who managed to persuade Mr Fingers himself to deliver his first commercially available DJ mix. As you'd expect from both label and DJ, it's a wonderfully atmospheric and melodious affair, with Heard selecting and blending emotion-rich tracks and mixes from Chromatic Filters, Bocca Grande, NuFrequency, Tevo Howard, Motor City Drum Ensemble and James Teej. The first disc, in which Heard races through 28 tracks in just over 70 minutes, is particularly memorable.

Review: Current darlings of the deep house Wolf Music continue on with what they do best on these three reliable dancefloor fillers courtesy of Bristol's Thrilogy. First up "Heaven" and its uplifting piano roll complete with jazz vocals and a pumping swing fuelled beat does the business quite well. Next we've got "Hold Me In Your Arms" which takes things deeper, with sultry female backing vocals and rolling bassline.. But the uplifting piano roll remains; don't worry! Lastly the K 98 remix of "heaven" injects some serious stomp and tempo into the track that tears through the speakers with its hard house intensity.

Review: With a plethora of artists to choose from, Volume 6 takes a look at the more experimental beings on Hype's roster, to interesting effect. Mob Tactics set the whole show in motion with Elephant Man in a dancehall-inspired club banger cut with insane bass and high-stress sound effects. Total Recall makes an appearance in the Eastern-influenced "Ethnic Origins", taking jump-up to new heights. Playaz favourite Survival adds a trademark neuro touch to fastmoving breaks and eerie atmospherics, and Jaydan show's a sensitive side with the crisp, rolling "She's Heaven". A mature sound from the Playaz crew.

Review: FD hides his ingenuity behind deceptively simple, stripped back productions. His music relies on the basics done unbelievably well and A Vision Of Hope is a six-track embodiment of how effective this method is, as he rolls things out with clarity in the percussion and high quality in the low frequencies. 'Hazmat' featuring Fox is a perfect example and the pair are a force to be reckoned with, as FD lays out an unbelievably crisp percussive basis for a bouncing, infectious bassline, both of which pair superbly with Fox's little-is-more approach to vocal magic. There's just a quality to this EP, it's organic and well-meaning but still tough and gutsy; the bassline on 'Vienna Circle' lopes in purposeful steps, but squirms with anger on 'Bully'. There are liquid notes on 'Here With Me' and an instrumental to rounds things off, North Quarter style. Sublime.

Review: The big man on campus returns! Fast becoming a staple on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, the Glaswegian producer throws down an impressive full length demonstrating the diversity within his musical repertoire - and count us in as fans. From the deep and soulful late night house of "Our House" which will have you 'doin' the wiggly worm', Afrobeat meets Innervisions styled melodic house on "Hammond Groove" while "High Heavens" explores classic neon-lit electro aesthetics from the '80s. There's even some harder stuff in there, like demonstrated on "The Great Beast" that's a slow burning early '90s style techno jam (which blows the bloody doors off!) and "Gear Tension" which throws in more hallmarks of the golden era such as 303 acid and Joey Beltran styled menstasms.
