Review: Bay Area tech house hero and Dirtybird Stalwart Justin Martin released his full length Hello Clouds to a great reception last year and now it's time for a remix package that is equally impressive. Featuring the likes of Walker & Ryce, Ardalan and Chris Lorenzo amongst several others; it is so hard to choose favourites among such a talented bunch. But for our money we'd bet on the following: South African Kyle Watson with his take on "Odyssey" which takes the track down even deeper and dreamy territory; if not for that serious grinding bassline. Brit in Los Angeles Doorly is here with a typically explosive remix: this time on the epic acid journey "Midnight" while fellow Brit Jakwob delivers deep tech house in fine form on his version of the title track. Also of important note: witness the return of legendary Brazilian drum and bass don DJ Marky who appropriately remixes the track "Back To The Jungle" and its all quite fitting really.

Review: Marc Romboy's esteemed tech house imprint has reached its 77th release? You bet! And it goes out all guns blazing this time around with a massive compilation with some great tracks, new and old, by the likes of Robert Babicz, Guy Mantzur, Wehbba and Stephan Bodzin. There are some pretty kick ass remixes on offer too by the likes of Adam Port, Adriatique, Nick Curly and Petar Dundov. Highlights? The tracklist features artists of the partner labels under the !K7 umbrella such as Turbo, AUS Music, Mobilee, Mister Saturday Night and Hypercolour. Penned by Chris Woodward, an integral part of the imprint?s close knit family, this release serves as the audio family newsletter created to celebrate reaching this impressive milestone. Review: Dirtybird has commissioned remixes of tracks from Walker & Royce's 2017 debut album - and the results are mind-blowing. Jon Tejada, best known for his deep, minimal techno work on Palette and Poker Flat, drops two takes on "My Own Thang". The first, which still features Sophiegrophy's rhymes, is a busy but distinctive workout, while the US producer's elastic bass and spacious drum programming really come to the fore on the dub version. In contrast, Justin Martin & Ardalan's dub take on "Can You Pass That?" is more in keeping with the Dirtybird style, as psychedelic bass tones and a grinding rhythm makes for a wild ride. Walker & Royce's own take on "Role Models" is also distinctive, with a spaced out acid line underpinning the geeky vocals.

Review: With Buzzin' Fly approaching the final curtain (the label's last release will drop in June 2013), boss man Ben Watt is in retrospective mood. He's decided to reissue all of the label's early material on a series of comprehensive digital anthologies. This bulging, 34-track collection - the second - focuses on 2005 and 2006. It's something of a time capsule, offering thrilling flashbacks to a time when it was still unusual to find deep house tracks dominating dancefloors (see Justin Martin's excellent remix of Watt's "Love Cat (Holding On)" and Ame's classic rework of Rodamaal's "Insomnia"). Along the way, there are forgotten highlights (a stirring John Tejada remix of Jimpster) and surprising collaborations (Estelle - remember her - hooking up with Ben Watt).

Review: It has been exactly a year since Iranian DJ/producer Ardalan Noghre-Kar dropped his massive 'Mr Good' LP on the always reliable Dirtybird label. Now Claude Vonstroke & Co. serve up a series of remixes from the San Francisco-based artist's debut album, with highlights coming from: Bostonians Soul Clap who get deep down and dirty on "I Can't Wait", Dirtybird alumnus Kyle Watson with a suitably wonky rendition of "Osci", Brazilian upstart Cour.T with a tough rolling and druggy perspective of "Zombie Village" and Seattle scene veteran Pezzner handing in a mesmerising version of "Orange Dreams". The album was widely admired by critics, DJs, fans and industry alike, and these remixes chase up its success perfectly.

Review: Justin Martin has dropped onto US label Dirtybird on remix duties for Strafe, furnishing a two-tracker that takes a dual approach to Strafe's Set it Off. The first remix is the slightly more relaxed of the two; imagine a classic rave sound merged with retro-esque stabs and melodies that leaves you plenty of space to move but still packs a bubbly bassline that evolves in tandem. Justin Martin's Party Starter Remix then lays down the real heat, a long intro gets you excited before twists of low-frequency bounce entwine with a proper funk injection. Suspenseful and driving, this is house that'll satisfy pretty much everyone.

Review: Hagelstein is one of the most respected German minimal house producers, and his relationship with Watergate goes back a few years. On his latest venture for the Berlin label, he ventures far down the trippy path. "Dematerialize" featuring Justin Evans, is a psychedelic slice of modern house that resounds to acid-inspired gurgles unfolding over a pulsating groove. "Forward Vision" is a more heads-down affair and sees Hagelstein serve up a brooding, atmospheric minimal house track that climaxes to a wild acid segue, while the label has also tapped Martin Buttrich to rework "Dematerialize". In his hands, it turns into a linear, wiry groove that's even more bugged out than the original.

Review: Following news that Ben Watt no longer intends to put out new music on Buzzin' Fly, the compiling and re-releasing of some of the highlights from the label's back catalogue is timely. This third volume focuses on the high point of the label's output, the golden period from 2007 to 2008. The dominant sound here is trancey and melodic, with synth sweeps combined with sensuous strings and woodwind samples. Manoo & Francois A embody this approach on the windswept "Magnetic", where epic, acid-led hooks build over dubbed out drums, while Pedro Madeira's "Long Shadows" moves from lush strings into an epic break down. Despite this approach, there is still space for classic US house, as the dubby drums of Dennis Ferrer & Steve Martinez' version of Ben Watt's "Lone Cat (Holding On)" demonstrates.

Review: It's been another great year for Catz 'N' Dogz's Pets Recordings imprint. If you missed any of the Polish imprint's many essential releases, fear not, as help is at hand via this top-notch round up of their biggest cuts of 2019. There are naturally plenty of contributions from the label's popular head honchos, with highlights including Andhim's evocative, acid-sporting vocal remix of "Would You Believe", a suspenseful contemporary dream house rework of "There" by Terr and a deliciously retro-futurist house take on "New Love" by Gerd Janson. Elsewhere, top picks include the warehouse-ready throb of Truncate's "Pressure", the pitched-down darkroom chug of "Rattlesnake" by Psychemagik and the drowsy deep house/UK garage fusion of Black Loops' "Keep A Secret".
