Never Asked For Much (feat Chelou) - (5:18) 97 BPM
Review: The mighty Maya Jane Coles is in formidable form on her latest EP, which is aimed fair and square at sweat-soaked peak-time dancefloors. For proof, look no further than opener 'In2U', a sub-heavy, tech-tinged chunk of funk-fuelled house laden with ghostly lead lines, gut-bothering bass and cut-up vocal snippets. Coles opts for a more late-night, garage-tinged deep house flex on vocal number 'All These Thoughts' (featuring Kid Enigma on the mic), before joining forces with singer Ed Critchley on the emotive and dreamy club cut 'Haunted By Our Love'. Elsewhere, 'Closer' features rumbling bass, crunchy drums and opioid electronic textures, while 'Never Asked For Much (featuring Chelou)' is a slow and immersive slab of future R&B/modern soul.

Review: Given her current popularity, it's no surprise to see all-conquering house hero Maya Jane Coles mixing the latest instalment of !K7's long-running DJ Kicks series. The diminutive DJ/producer is in fine form, too, mixing up typically atmospheric house cuts and clandestine deepness with saucer-eyed late night faves and forgotten B-sides (see Bozzwell's surprisingly emotional "In My Cocoon"). As a mix it's as deep, melodic and groovy as you'd expect, with a strong vocal theme running throughout. As it progresses, it tiptoes further into bleary-eyed darkroom territory, via stand-out cuts from Marcel Dettmann, Caribou (his thrilling remix of Virgo Four), Gerry Read and T Williams. Available digitally as individual tracks or one continuous mix!

Movie Star - (5:12) 174 BPM
Review: You read that right - this is the 26th installment of the Jungle Cakes saga and Ed Solo returns to the spotlight with Isaac Maya fresh out of Mexico. Bursting out the funky vibes first and foremost with "Love Jah", they describe the bass as 'wompy', and who are we to argue? Next to come is the flip side, a tasty roller with alternating textures of warmth and grit. Peppered with amen break fills and edits and a big old bassline, this is a Jungle Cakes insta-classic that'll get your dancefloor shaking.

Original Jungle Sound (Nu Elementz & Profile remix) - (4:24) 175 BPM Hot
Original Jungle Sound (Dirty Skank beats remix) - (4:33) 175 BPM
Played by: LIONDUB, Isaac Maya, Zen Dub
Review: Featuring a debut vocal appearance from original ragga badman Daddy Freddy, Liondub presented the talents of Mexican producer Isaac Maya earlier this year. Returning to the scene with remix pressure from Nu Elementz and Profile and Portugal's own Dirty Skank Beats, the digital carnage unfurls with Nu Elementz and Profile's remix, which opens in a classic reggae style that turns dirty in all the best jump-up ways. The next reinterpretation is left to Dirty Skank Beats, who removes the original production entirely and replaces it with down and dirty heaviness and hard hitting horns, leaving the majority of the vocals intact. Nicely does it.

Review: From Mexico to Jamaica to London, "Original Jungle Sound" covers serious ground with a serious sound. Isaac Maya's rifle-like beats and teeth-baring bass reference jungles roots with futuristic production flourishes while Daddy Freddy gets guttural with forked tongue toasting in a way only he knows how. Remix-wise we head to Canada as Marcus Visionary adds his own brutal take on the original. Massive.

Know About
Know About - (4:57) 126 BPM Hot
Watch & Learn (feat Kid Enigma) - (5:24) 126 BPM
Review: Here's something to get the blood pumping and the drool flowing: a two-track collaboration between tech-house/techno heavyweight Maya Jane Coles and Italian twosome M.F.S Observatory. Opener 'Know About' is tough, chunky and funky, with fizzing synthesizer lead lines, trance-inspired arpeggio style motifs, cut-up male vocal snippets, dreamy chords and weighty, thickset bass. Impressively, 'Watch and Learn' is even heavier, with ghostly and bleeping electronics rising above a killer kick/snare-heavy rhythm track and deep, heavy sub-bass. The track sounds like it was inspired (in part at least) by turn-of-the-90s bleep techno, though it's a far funkier proposition than any of the classic cuts that emerged from that scene ('LFO', 'Testone', 'Track With No Name' etc).

David Duriez - "Get On Down" (Cassy remix) - (7:06) 123 BPM
Maya Jane Coles - "Senseless" (Matthew Herbert remix) - (6:26) 117 BPM Hot
Review: If you are a fan of 2020 Vision with a keen understanding of the online electronic music community you will probably be content with the content that's preceded the release of Content, the label's 20th anniversary compilation. Yet how does the multi-format release shape up against the pre-release hype? Well this second sampler features a brand new cut from Simian Mobile Disco as well as fresh remixes of 2020 classics from Matthew Herbert and Cassy, which says it all really! SMD lead the way with "Parson's Nose" which is Jas and James at their most melodically languid and involving, whilst Cassy adds some notable chunkiness to "Get On Down," David Duriez's 2002 release on Ralph Lawson's label. The idea alone of Herbert remixing Maya Jane Coles is filled with intrigue and his resultant take on "Senseless" is resolutely strange without losing any dancefloor impact.

Jmpng - (5:40) 136 BPM Hot
Seratonin - (4:03) 134 BPM
Review: CAYAM is perhaps not one of Maya Jane Coles' better-known artistic aliases. Crucially, though, it does allow more artistic freedom to go in different directions with her sound than she may be able to do under her given name. Hence this EP for Kneaded Pains, which sees her energetically charge towards techno dancefloors via a trio of fiery, firing tracks. The experienced producer first peppers a chunky, crunchy techno beat with short, mind-mangling melodic motifs and jumpy vocal samples on 'Pleasure', before channelling the spirit of Inner City on the loopy, warehouse-ready pump of 'Jmpng'. Best of all though is closing cut 'Seratonin', a Kuduro-influenced techno stomper full to bursting with trippy synthesizer lead lines that reminded us of DJ Mujave classic 'Township Funk'.

Review: Isaac Maya heads up the sixth volume of "Dubwise Brilliants" on the ever-prolific Liquid Brilliants series with the crooning and shimmying "You Make Me Cry" with its lilting, enticing lyrics and shuffling jungle-tastic breaks. It's a sumptuous slice of summer sunshine in musical form that will have you moving and shaking in no time at all. Accompanying this is the aptly entitled "Vibes" which sees Maya team up with Jebar for another rambunctious, hip-shaking tune full of punchy drums, raunchy bass and plenty of musical mayhem.

Serious Thing - (5:52)
Review: Isaac Maya strips things back, presenting a delightfully dubbed out couple of tracks which match the roots of D+B with contemporary bass music on the first release in Liquid Brilliants new Dubwise Brilliants series. First of all, "Walk Away From Love" is a gorgeous, lilting riddim with reggae vocal setting the pace and setting the style for the duration, intricately weaving the narrative around some stomping drum beats and murmuring bass with some shimmying trumpets and plenty of soulful flavour. "Serious Thing" goes in on a slightly harder, more dancefloor driven tip with punchy drums and grinding bass.

Sprkl - (5:40) 136 BPM
Review: Last autumn, Maya-Jane Coles fired up her Cayam side project for the first time in six years in order to release a three-track EP of killer techno mutations on Kneaded Pains. This follow-up for Alan Fitzpatrick's We Are The Brave label is similarly-minded, with Coles focusing on hot and heavy beats, trippy electronic loops and savage dancefloor energy. She sets the tone on opener 'Universal Wisdom', where twisted and metallic-sounding electronics bubble away atop a stomping beat, before introducing some big melodic builds and undulating synth sounds on the similarly weighty 'Chaos in the Distance'. We'd also recommend checking warehouse-ready EP closer 'Sparkl', where razor-sharp stabs and glassy-eyed electronic loops ride another thunderous techno groove.

Review: It's always an absolute pleasure to see a new Scuffed Recordings release land in the store, with this new entry being the fifth edition of their 'Scuffed Presents' compilation project, welcoming some of the most exciting and original names in electronic music through their doors. We begin with this acidic progression and metallic drum slaps of Awo Ojiji's 'Woozy', a super colourful creation, chased up by the instantly-recognizable synthesizer slides of 'Squelch', a rave-ready anthem from Doctor Nick. Next, Maya Q delivers a hardcore throwback with the powerful drum designs of 'Belief', seeing Dawn Razor's 'Dreamproof' put the final touches on the compilation with an impressive display of percussive stacking and subtle melodic juice.

Review: Vocalist, DJ and violinist Maya Killtron (real name Maya Chilton) hails from Toronto and describes her music as "fun, joyfully feel-good and makes you want to rollerskate". This, her second studio album, follows 2019's 'Never Dance Alone' and leans firmly towards the poppier side of the street, with its finest moments - see 'Guaranteed', or the squelchy stop-start funk of 'Something About You' - bringing hints of mid/late 80s Janet Jackson/Paula Abdul/Neneh Cherry/etc, while other cuts aim more for a singer-songwriter vibe (see the title track) or, as with 'Night Moves', go straight for the contemporary Top 40 jugular.

Review: Maya Jane Coles' Nocturnal Sunshine alias dates all the way back to 2010 with her debut EP on LMD SkunkWorks that soon paved the way for the much loved DJ and producer to set up her own I/AM/ME label some two years later. Following a string of EPs and a self-titled album in 2015, Nocturnal Sunshine returns in full force and comes 'full circle' backed with a huge cast of collaborators in Young M.A., Ry X, Three 6 Mafia rapper Gangsta Boo, Peaches, and UK singer-songwriter Chelou. With both title tracks from her Foundation and U&ME EPs featuring on Full Circle also, it's tracks like "Tied Up", "Lessons Of Life" and "To The Ground" that really exert a stepping yet housey vibe of vocal content that has made Maya Jane Coles' taste and DJ sets such a popular facet in the UK. For some low-riding Memphis vibes look to "Ridin' Solo" and "Pull Up" alongside some dank and dubby vocal cuts in "Possessed" next to a solo highlight of UKG house, jungle and drum and bass hybrids in "Heroes".

Review: Four years have passed since Maya Jane Coles' last full-length excursion (2015's set as Nocturnal Sunshine not included), so it's perhaps unsurprising that Take Flight is something of a long and undulating epic. Featuring 24 tracks stretched across three LPs and a string of eager collaborators (Chelou, Rachel Butt of GAPS fame and We Fell To Earth singer Wendy Rae Fowler being arguably the best known), Take Flight is little less than an extended showcase for the DJ/producer's particular bland of shuffling, tactile tech-house, tweaked to suit the demands of radio and home listeners. One reviewer recently described it "love letter to dance music", and Coles' many fans will no doubt agree.

Review: Ahead of Maya Jane Coles' fifth album, Night Creature, comes the release of its first three singles! Inspired by the peaceful hours at home as much as the ecstatic moments of a club night, Maya Jane Coles opens up with three displays of streamlined techno cuts. Keeping with a bleepy, slightly metallic-tipped sound and deeper atmospheres, "Night Creature" is indeed the hit here with its vocals, danceable bassline, breaking grooves and breathy textures. "Need" throws down the toughest yet piano-tipped club jam, next to the savage bassline and garage grooves of "Survival Mode".

Review: A decade on from her breakthrough release, "What They Say", Maya Jane Coles is preparing to release what she says will be her most "club-focused" album to date. Here she offers up a taste of what's to come via a three-track teaser EP. Opener "Would You Kill (4 Me)" is one of her most bass-heavy musical moments to date, with Todd Edwards influenced cut-up vocal samples and undulating electronic melodies riding smooth tech-house drums and deep sub-bass. "Sweet Love" also includes plenty of vocal cut ups, though the sounds surrounding it are deeper, warmer and altogether hazier, as if it was made for weary late night/early morning moments. Rounding off the EP is "Piano Magic", a cheery chunk of ear-pleasing peak-time goodness which also boasts some suitably big, bold bass.

Review: Maya Danon has been a familiar face on Tel Aviv's alternative electronic scene for the last decade. Even so, this EP for Robbie Headman's Relish label is still her first. There's much to admire throughout, starting with the restless analogue synths, thudding drums and alien electronics of title track "Mad Hatter". Similarly impressive is the fuzzy "Nina", where fizzing electronic stabs and woozy melody lines ride a killer bassline, while the sparser "Waiting For Simon" is undoubtedly the EP's most out-there and experimental moment. Autarkic and Marc Pional remix "Mad Hatter", with the latter's skewed, spaced-out analogue deep house interpretation particularly impressing.

Review: Having first appeared in its original form earlier in the year, Maya-Jane Coles' deep and bumpin' "Get Away" single gets reinvented by occasional Crosstown Rebel Subb-An. He predictably goes deeper and dubbier, switching between rock solid grooves and short, vocal-laden breakdowns before introducing a sublime, rush inducing extended breakdown. When that's amply tingled spines, he then reintroduces the dubby deep house groove for a heads-down trot to the finish line.

Review: Last month, long-serving producer Valique released "Walking With Kd", a jaunty, horn-heavy chunk of revivalist disco bliss blessed with fine vocals from Maya. Here, the cut gets the remix treatment, with a trio of producers taking it in turns to provide their interpretations. Rafael Fernandez steps up first to deliver an interpretation rich in rubbery electric bass and jaunty electrofunk synthesizer lines. Happily, we can confirm that it's as smooth as the proverbial baby's backside. Next, fast-rising Mexican Hotmood serves up a loopy and driving disco-house remix full of clipped guitars and warm electric piano stabs, before Kiu D tiptoes the fine line between driving house and sparkling nu-disco on another attractive and playable re-rub.

Review: This release spans a number of sounds, yet doesn't sound forced or contrived. We reckon the most popular version will be the Dionigi Tropical take, its vocal snippets and rolling drums reminiscent of the Cadenza sound. Faz's Isla Blanca remix meanwhile ramps up the tempo a few notches; the beats sound more metallic and glisten with more malevolent intent. Best of all though is Dionigi's Italo remix - featuring irresistible cowbells and snappy drums, it's the soaring bassline and evocative, slightly cheesy melodies that will seduce listeners every time.

Maya (Rodriguez Jr. remix) - (6:12) 122 BPM
Review: Belfast-born, Bali-based Dee Montero (real name Dee McAuley) made his name with releases on Tale & Tone, Selador Recordings and Anjunadeep, though since 2020 he's been operating out of his own imprint, Futurescope. There's much to admire about 'Maya', his latest single for the label. In its original form, the track is an evocative, string-drenched, tribal-tinged deep-tech treat in which sustained chords, orchestral builds and glassy-eyed female vocal samples rise above moody bass and densely layered beats. Rodriguez Jr provides the obligatory remix, adding trance-inducing electronics, wide-eyed lead lines and twisted analogue bass for an even more uplifting feel. On both tracks, listen out for a few audible nods to the Future Sound of London's most celebrated moment.

Review: Following The Bunker's inaugural two releases from Leisure Muffin and Clay Wilson, the label releases its most high-profile EP to date with this three-track release from Donato Dozzy and Neel's famed Voices From The Lake project. Following tracks for Concrete Records and Mike Parker's Geophone label last year, the Velo Di Maya EP is Donato Dozzy and Neel's most substantial release since their revered self-titled debut album of 2012, and contains three tracks reproduced from their favourite live segments of a performance given at the famed New York club night in 2012. Containeing the lush, fluid textures of the title track, the gently pulsating frequencies of "Setiero" and the throbbing electric textures of "Respiro", there's enough here to keep the most ardent fans of the duo sated.

Review: Officially one of the most prolific and hardest working men in drum & bass, Dope Ammo looks back over his immense vaults of bangers, picks his favourites and commissions a whole stack of remixes from some of the best in the game. Ed Solo, Sub Zero, Bladerunner, Nick Blackmarket, Audiomisison, Kleu and DA himself are just some of the remixers getting stuck in here as Dope Ammo's many euphoric, emotionally charged cuts get reconstructed with pure balls of fire. The result is a timeless collection of dancefloor weapons that cross all subgenre boundaries. Guaranteed to light up any floor, Dope Ammo's firing all the shots right here.

Review: Second time around for Nico Moreno and Mewhy's excellent 'Opposite Minds' album, a lockdown-inspired fusion of the former's dancefloor-focused electronic disco and house sounds and the latter's pop and indie-framed vocals. This time round the album has been remixed by a wealth of international talents. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the slipped dark room wooziness of Re.you's remix of '100 Miles' and the tech-tinged deep house perfection of Aera's revision of 'Maya', to the twinkling pianos and hushed beats of Xinobi's fine revision of 'In My Head' and the psychedelic electro-disco-goes-acid house flex of the Fairplay re-interpretation of 'One Too Many Times'.

Review: Since their label inception back in 2018, the team over at Wisdom Teeth have done a great job at both cultivating and innovative forward thinking electronic music, with their roster featuring a number of true veterans of the game. This latest compilation takes the title 'Club Moss' and sees them assemble 14 fiery original creations, featuring the likes of Facta, K-Lone, Maya Q, LUXE, Purelink and more, all of whomst deliver naught but quality in their chosen creations. For us, despite this being a longer project, there are two clear standout recordings, the first of which is of course Cousin's atmospheric drifter in 'Tooth 4 Tooth' which gives us a spacious, exploratory feel. Alongside this, the moogy sub bounces of Tammo Hesselink's 'Cupboard Cylinder Salon' original also tops the list for us, showcasing the variation of styles that sits within the Wisdom Teeth camp.

Review: What an awesome link up we have here, diving headfirst into the tranquil waters of abstractivity on Deep Dark & Dangerous, who welcome the top notch combination of Hypho, Abstrakt Sonance & Megumi Hope inside for a saucy selection of trippy originals. The main centrepiece of this EP is of course the blissful vocal prowess of Megumi Hope, who opens up the party with a wistful sweeping performance on 'My Mind', behind which we of course hear the production-lead genius of Hypho & Sonance ring true, Next 'What Is Freedom' explores more eastern-inspired percussive melodies and an overall more unpredictable feel from Hypho & Sonance's production pallet, with 'Brave' then being a more triplet-inspired rhythmic roller, focusing on sitar-driven harmonies to match. Finally, the slightly slowed drumlines and more ethereal backdrops of 'Maya' give us a ghostly closer, rounding off this awesome collection in style.

Review: Who let the dubs out? Benny Page did, of course. He's been letting them out for a long time now and Dub Shotta is the manifestation of everything he's been doing over the years. Just look at the line-up of contributors here... Speaker Louis to Serial Killaz to Kleu to Nick The Lot to Joely to Jenks to many more, it's a powerful new-gen display of power as we're swept off our feet from robotic funk highs (Wigman - 'Best Shot') to glitched out choppy-chop freakery (Zapya & Speaker Louis' 'Toppa') and 27 other sick jams in between. Pound for pound this is one of the heaviest upfront dnb Vas you'll find this month. Woof woof.

Review: During the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, DJ/producer Nico Morano and singer/songwriter Mewhy found themselves collaborating a lot, both remotely and in the same studio. While ordinarily 'Opposite Minds' musically (as the title of their first collaborative album makes clear), the pair found enough common ground to create an attractive hybrid sound - one that combines Mewhy's eyes-closed vocals and sensitive lyrics with colourful melodies, dreamy chords, and tactile grooves that sit somewhere between deep house, deep nu-disco and leftfield synth-pop. As a result, the album is a hugely vibrant, colourful and enjoyable affair all told, and one that largely keeps its focus firmly on the dancefloor. Our picks include 'Everything I Own', a future sing-along anthem in the making, the tactile and warming 'Bingo' and the soft-touch loveliness of 'Maya'.

Review: From Bristol to the world, long-standing jungle collective Run Tingz wrap up 2020 with a serious jolt of positivity as they take in the internatty landscape and bring the full crew and many new faces together for this album rammed to the rafters with original - and largely vocal - dancefloor skank-ups. Highlights are instant as the opener 'Beautiful World' sets the vibes to stun. Elsewhere 'Lava Mouth' with Junior Morgan fuses savage breaks and disco stabs, Jinx and Deanie Rankin go for some proper gritty late 90s Dread vibes on 'Hooligan' and Cru newcomer Dublic dishes out a serious grumbler with the Total Science-style 'The Streets'. These are just the tip of the iceberg. Go global or go home.

Review: 39 tracks, 10 FX sounds and a full mix. This isn't any old slice of afternoon cake you might share your elderly neighbour or distant relative, this is a seven-tiered wedding cake full of every type of unhealthy, fattening ingredient you can imagine. And we're not stopping until we've chowed the lot. If you've feasted on Deekline and Solo's Jungle Cakes before then you'll already know how tasty this is; a selection of their own releases and similarly spirited cuts from the scene, all laced with dubwise, dancehall and skank-soaked soul. Highlights hang from every corner but you'd be mad not to peak at Aries & Gold's soul-flecked massage of Mr Benn, or Dominator & Logan D's brokeback bust-up "Cowboy" or Serial Killaz' savage repurposing of Freestyler's iconic "Entertainer". High calorie badness.

Review: Jungle Cakes shake us and bake us once again as label owners Deekline and Ed Solo lure long time friend Benny Page into their lair for this incredible 58 track collection. Created as a mix but all tunes available for your own persy armouries, as always with the 'Welcome To The Jungle' series, we're treated to sounds and styles across the entire dnb spectrum. Expected everything ranging from Benny's own bubblers to more dancefloor styles such as Blaine Stranger's 'Dragon' and Octo-Pi's 'This Sound' via rugged jump-up uppercuts such as Lockerz 'The Funk', crucial jungle licks like Exposure's remix of DeJay's 'St Paul's Jammin' and pure futurism like Filip Motovunski's 'Ninja'. And this isn't even the tip of the jungle iceberg here, there's so much to digest here. Huge.

Review: It doesn't get more legendary than DJ SS' Formation Records, and the man himself has organised a fat, 56-track compilation that will take you back to jungle. This is part 1 of 3 parts, and at 20 tunes it's nothing to be sniffed at, featuring music from the likes of Kenny Ken, Dave Shichman, Sikki and Fabric8. The first of those has a track called 'Gimme Dat Roller' which is simply crazy, with a clean, penetrating percussion that flips and nods its head with flair; the bassline comes next, and it's a true creeper. 'Jah' by Fabric8 has a wicked, lounging reggae introduction that sets the stage for a jagged, spiking bassline that zips through the arrangement in a seriously catchy way. Seminal stuff.

Review: Brightonian beat agitators Skint celebrate two decades of party science with a whopping 32 track compendium of highlights. Ranging from quintessential big beat (Midfield General, Indian Ropeman, Lo Fidelity Allstars) to quirky, lop-jawed techno (Roman Flugel, Tomas Andersson, Dave Clarke) via chunky, dirty-bottomed house music (Riva Starr, Foamo, X-Press 2) and perfectly formed left-minded pop music (Fatboy Slim, Tiga), Skint's successes can be found in almost every corner of the dance... Including the harder-to-categorise unique, forgotten classics such as FC Kahuna's evergreen "Hayling" and Justice's new wave pop strutting remix of Vicarious Bliss. Happy anniversary Skint!

Desmond Dekker - "Israelites" (DJ Kane remix) - (3:38) 172 BPM
Review: Jungle Cakes have a knack for signing music that's infectiously danceable but still gritty and tough, a description that applies perfectly to their latest various artists album, which features music from label founders Ed Solo and Deekline, as well as Phibes, Selecta J-Man and others. Gella smashes his remix of 'Blood & Fire' by Niney The Observer, which packs funk and melodic progression into the introduction but takes things darker on the drop, a nice duality than lends an element of creativity to an extremely feel-good number. 'Sittting & Watching' is steppier, more stripped back and orientated for the dancefloor, with a sparse but punchy arrangement that smacks of old-school sounds. The label OGs also team up on their rework of 'Uptown Top Ranking', which is essential summertime vibes for the junglist who loves the way this pair roll out feel good drum & bass beneath lounging vocal notes. Lovely.

Review: Crosstown Rebels head honcho, Damien Lazarus, has taken it upon himself (and his crew) to mark the "cosmically significant" date of December 21 with a 24-hour megaparty in Mexico. For those of us unable to attend in person, this accompanying compilation is the next best thing. Beginning with Pier Bucci's fittingly titled, and deliciously trippy, "Mayans", we get the exotic and trancey "The Prophecy" by Quenum, Matthew Jonson's sinister tech-houser "In Search Of A New Planet With Oxygen", the sublime "Cosmic Dancer" by Francesca Lombardo, the urgent menace of "Greed Insanity" by Fur Coat and the haunting, end-of-the-world vibes of "2012" by Jay Haze.

Review: Run Tingz Cru are a Bristolian outfit that specialise in uplifting, jungle influenced sonics that'll make you smile and pull a bass face at the same time. This EP is out for Valentines day and it's a rip-roaring mix of sounds and styles, with almost all corners of the scene being represented one day or another. The Dubtime Amen remix of Took My Breath featuring Solo Banton and Lady Fyah is up there with the highlights, a lovely combination of vibrant vocal tones and raucous jungle strikes, with an absolutely killer kick drum. The Jinx Amen remix of Drop Call, which features the legendary Tenor Cat, is also up there, its summery fluidity sounding amazing with a slice of darkness underneath. Banging.

Review: Legendary reggae / dancehall singer Da Fuchaman joins the dots with his debut excursion into jungle. He's rolling with the best company as Run Tingz have recruited a crack team of on point craftsmen for him to vibe with: Serial Killerz, Isaac Maya, Frisk, Numa Crew, Choppa, Brian Brainstorm join the Run Tingz Cru themselves as Fuchaman brings the consciousness over a menu of gully textures. Highlights include the stench like bass on "Babylon Falling", the pure fire of the opener "Jungle Love" and the classic horn waves and snaking snares of "Call The Police". A unique and vital album that celebrates fusion at its deepest melting pot roots.

Review: Run Tingz are a Bristol based imprint that seek to project the Bristolian sound all across the U.K. That sound is a hypnotic blend of ragga influences, jungle vibes and rolling, bassy tones of the type that blow up Bristol dancefloors on an almost daily basis. For their Best of 2018 album they've rolled out the big guns for a fat compilation featuring the likes of Bladerunner, Kursiva, Dossa and Brian Brainstorm so you know it's going to be good. 'Sound Killer' by Bladerunner is typical of this; funky, upbeat ragga sampling and sick vocals from Fuchaman with an underpinning of junglist vibes and pulsing basslines. The rest of the album is just as good - go cop it.

Review: Over the last quarter of a century, Dim Kelly has slowly been developing a trademark sound all of his own. Melodious, atmospheric, musically intricate and rich in neo-classical style string arrangements, this style is at the heart of his first full-length excursion for All Day I Dream. Nocturna Animal, then, should be considered a genuine "complete work", but that doesn't mean that there aren't individual highlights. We'd recommend checking simmering, slow burn opener 'Duplicity', the sun-soaked vocal tech-house warmth of 'Halo', the string-drenched deep house goodness of 'Glow', the pitched-down, heavily orchestrated haziness of 'Nocturna Animal' and the typically tactile, percussively complex 'Emburns Marins'.

Review: From Span with love: South Yard one-up the dickens out their game with their first V/A album. 21 tracks heavy and packed with every skanky, bashy and rolling shade of jungle they've become known for during their three year rise so far. All the mandem present and correct, the likes of Veak, Vital Elements, RMS, Jamie Bostron and many more all join Kursiva for this major league brock-out with savage highlights hanging, swinging and leaping from every corner. Highlights include the flabby bass groans of T.Kay's "Oh! Dread", Kid Mix-A-Lot's euphoric dibby dibby dancefloor smasher "The Stopper" and Ricky Tuff & Brian Brainstorms teeth-baring tear-up "Las Teresitas". Adios amigos!

Review: Wake up and bake up, Jungle Cakes are back in the kitchen with their prize dish range 'Welcome To The Jungle'. This time the guest chefs are none other than Dub Pistols who've been flexing all styles and sizes of breakbeat since the very beginning. Currently coming correct with 50 tracks, they cover the full range of D&B through their dubwise, reggae-roasted selection. From the steam engine skank-ups like Isaac Maya and Daddy Freddy's thundering 'Bring Dem' to Deekline & Ed Solo's instant sing-along smash-out 'Bam Bam' to the dancehall bashment of Selecta J Man's 'My Style', this isn't so much of a jungle welcoming but more of a full jungle takeover... And you'll never want to leave.

Strong in all directions from lyrics to groove. Warrior charge.

Review: Proper drum and bass full of ragga twists to lose your mind to on this compilation thanks to Lion Dub label head Marcus Visionary. This release moves from the rolling reggae rhythms of "Ruff & Tuff" to the frenetic throwabouts of "Original Jungle Sound". Tear out vibes are to be had on "Born To Fly", and to be honest this release doesn't let up at all, and for a real weapon check out the anthem that is Navigator's "Sound The Alarm". But for something to potentially wind down to, relatively speaking, it's all about Marcus Visionary's VIP version of Jah Cure's "Never Find".

Duals - (4:03) 88 BPM
First Fires (feat Grey Reverend - Maya Jane Coles remix) - (5:52) 116 BPM
Review: Bonobo's North Borders album just keeps on giving... Here we find one of its many highlights, "Ten Tigers", getting a floor-minded rework by Bonobo himself. Retaining most of the original aspects, he's added a slightly heavier dynamic that's idea for all floors. Also on a remix-flex is UK starlet Maya Jane Coles who flips "First Fires" into a treacle-thick, bass heavy house driver. And if that's not quite enough, Bonobo has also given us a brand new track... "Duals" is a bright, breezy and skippy broken beat affair that's laced with myriad uplifting textures and counter melodies. In a word? Dreamy. Ten (tigers) out of ten.

Review: Tapping up the fertile Lisbon scene and its proud individualistic electronic music, Warp Records presents the first volume of CARGAA in a move that will no doubt break the sounds of these artists through to a wider audience, much as happened with the Chicago footwork producers on Planet Mu's Bangs & Works compilations. DJ Marfox and DJ Newdyt Fox kick the EP off with a searing blend of peak time hype full of pealing leads, off beat percussion and subby booms. DJ Nigga Fox meanwhile takes things a little slower, plays down the synth lines and lets the percussion come further forwards in a head-spinning melee of polyrhythms. There's also string laden emotion from Blacksea Naoo MAya, and a sprightly slice of wonky house from DJ Ly-COox proving that in Portugal's capital a whole lot of influences feed into a very unique melting pot.

Review: Electronic music is often defined as being apolitical and entirely self-serving, but in this time of existential crisis for Japan, it shows that dance producers not only have a conscience, but care deeply about the country. There have been a number of initiatives already within electronic music to raise funds for Japanese earthquake/tsunami victims, and the act of helping is the overarching concern here. However, hopefully when you do decide to purchase this Kompakt compilation, you will get the added bonus of ghostly ambience from Marsen Jules and Ezekiel Honig, playful, offbeat house from Efdemin, eerie minimal house from SCSI-9 and Nick Hoppner, and Anontelli's playful electronic pulses - as well as feeling good about supporting a beleaguered nation.

These remixes have the weighty atmos of the late night underworld, and if you love your dub deep and dank, and love throwing a bit of junglist wildness into the mix, this selection will keep you up for days.
