Review: This Issues Remixes EP delivers a fresh perspective on DJ MELL G's highly praised solo album: Issues. With a dynamic array of sounds and textures, this remix edition - orchestrated by some of today's most contemporary takents - breathes new life into the original tracks. Off the bat, Sally C throws down a wicked and slightly oriental motif in her remix of "Borderline", with the EP's most overt electro remix no doubt coming straight from Cyan85. Some deeper warehouse techno comes from a Peachlyfe remix of "Beyond 70", while Ben Pest goes 4D-sound in his remake of "Disturbed Mind". And get your dose of percussion concussion from Manuka Honey to boot!

Review: Issues is Mell G's debut album, and it explores her personal struggles with borderline personality disorder. In a world of short attention spans and vacuous social media gesturing, she deserves praise for being so open. What's even more impressive is the fact that the accompanying soundtrack is never short of captivating. "Disturbed Mind" is a fuzzy, sprawling slice of electro funk that manages to keep a dance floor focus. Similarly, "Greatest Desire (2AM Hope mix)" provides a 4/4 backdrop for her to drop a hypnotic array of textures and tones, bathed in acid tones. In contrast on "What I Fear", Mell G pushes farther in a clubby direction, dropping a stripped back rhythm, while "Borderline" is a bruising electro banger. These various strands all unite to paint a truly unique picture of an artist who has the courage to wear her heart on her sleeve.

Review: Toolroom's annual White Island compilation bounces back this year with a wide range of house styles. There's the lush melodies and breathy vocals of label owner Mark Knight's "Make You Happy". Meanwhile, vocal tracks are, as always, a prominent feature. Pete Griffiths delivers a soulful track in the shape of the piano-led, celebratory "Get Together", while Melanie Ribbe's "Big" is a more subtle affair, with haunting vocals riding a rolling, techy groove. In contrast, ESSEL delivers a throbbing, primal workout in the form of "Sweat". Havoc & Lawn's "Reflection" offers another take on the perennial sound - this time, the focus is on a brittle, stepping rhythm.

Review: This year saw emergence of a new genre name, subject to much debate.. The likes of Tiesto, Hardwell and co pioneering a sound that lay smack bang in the middle of trance and house, named (somewhat annoyingly)'trouse'. High Contrast were one of the first to jump on the bandwagon and here present the 2nd Installment in their 'This Is' compilation.
