Review: A few years ago, Tito Velcro, Elena Hikari and Rare Wiri founder Rayko joined forces in the studio and produced a handful of decidedly Balearic tracks. Now, having sat on Rayko's hard drive for "a few years", they're finally getting a deserved release courtesy of Citizens of Vice. "You're Not Alone" is suitably special, with swirling and evocative vocals from Hikari rising above lazy, laidback guitar riffs, dreamy chords, bubbly beats and soft-touch synth sounds, while 'Unforgettable' is a chugging, slow-motion treat that wraps sparkling synth lines and echoing guitars around echoing beats and low-slung bass. Rayko provides a slightly more club-friendly nu-disco take on 'You're Not Alone', while Ilya Santana re-imagines the same track as a sparse, sunrise-ready chunk of Balearic electrofunk.
Review: Several Definitions, despite what the name may insinuate; is not a group rather one lone Swiss producer known as Jeremy. Appearing here for esteemed Berlin label Still Vor Talent, he presents four servings of tech house goodness on the You Are Not Alone EP. The original version of "Alone" is a dark and melodic journey track packed with the right amount of suspense and drama that'd make even the Life & Death camp up their game. The remix by Hatzler stays true to the original, but just gives it that extra amount of 'oomph' to play at the peak time slot. "Esmeralda" is also worthy of mention; this swirling and hypnotic trance odyssey is reminiscent of a more classic dance music style and is surefire magic on the dancefloor.
Review: London's Modern Ruin hadn't been messing around since their first release, and now the label are back with a hot collaboration between Slime's BSN Posse, and newcomer Stayhigh in what could possibly be one of the label's most soulful and seductive slice of bass weight, as of yet. The opener by BSN Posse, "All My Dreams" is a gorgeous bit of sliding drums and placid vocals, and the follower by Stayhigh, "You're Not Alone", follows in a similar vein except there is more energy and more of a rise in momentum. Check all these cuts out; the moral of the story is that these guys are just simply good at making sidewalk bass music with an elegant, maybe eve jazzy edge.
