Review: The mysterious Unknown Artist returns to Fokuz with another fat round-up of re-rubs and big sample-slapping D&B. Good time D&B for party heads, and sculpted well enough for the heads to stroke their beards or give a wry grin, once again we're treated to a whole load of familiar vocals and hooks laced carefully in, around and over the breaks. Highlights include the Darondo flexing 'Didn't I' (which some may remember from Breaking Bad), the seminal rave classic 'Need Your Loving' and the Badu to the bone 'On & On' but each cut is guarantee to get the butts wriggling.
Review: With a whopping 70 tracks featured on this latest installment in the 'House Party' series, you'll forgive us if we don't go into each one individually! It's fair to say though that whether it's peaktime tech-house, pumping discofied grooves, tuff tribalism, off-kilter jazzy bizniss or sweet soulful vibes you're after, you'll find it all here and more besides, with Hoover stabs, rolling Afro beats, speed garage basslines, the Korg M1 organ, torchy fem vox and ragga chat all making cameo appearances along the way! Dive in and find your personal faves, or just sit back, press play on one of the three bundled DJ mixes and let GW Harrison, Chaney and Tim Baresko do the selecting for you.
Review: Since launching in 2010, Miami's Disco Balls label have brought us music from the likes of C Da Afro, Frank Virgilio, The Stoned and Ken@Work; since 2015, they've also been serving up annual genre-based compilations, with this nu-disco best-of selection for 2020 having house, disco house and jackin' house sisters. Across 19 tracks from almost as many artists you'll find everything from raw funk (Jerem A's 'Do The Do'), via loose-limbed jazz-funk (Dubplate Disco's 'Between Us'), to shimmering Balearic grooves (Zulu Natives' 'Say It Yeah Now'), making for a collection that's well worth investigating, particularly if you like your nu-disco on the faithfully 70s-sounding side...
