Back To Chicago EP
Breixo - "Surrender" - (4:59) 116 BPM
JB Dizzy - "Hang On" - (7:47) 117 BPM Hot
Mookie - "Bus Stop" - (6:44) 109 BPM
SEEN ON TV - "Back To Chicago" - (4:56) 118 BPM
DJ PATS - "Sunshine & Rain" - (4:48) 106 BPM
Review: Back in April, Bordeaux-based Seen On TV launched the Discoalition label with an expansive EP of his own disco, soul and funk re-edits. For this belated follow-up, the Frenchman has decided to do things differently, recruiting a bunch of little-known producers to deliver a split EP of floor-friendly treats. While his own "Back To Chicago" - a grandiose, soaring chunk of hands-aloft disco-soul beefed up with house-centric beats - impresses, there's plenty more to excite elsewhere. Check, for example, DJ Pats' effortlessly jazzy, subtly beefed up version of Maze's smooth classic "Joy & Pain" (here retitled "Sunshine & Rain"), and the sharp strings, rising horns and celebratory vocals of Brexio's tasty opener "Surrender". Both, like the rest of the EP, are spot on.

Evolution
Evolution - (6:14) 114 BPM
Heartbeat - (5:05) 102 BPM Hot
Played by: Sunner Soul, SEEN ON TV
Review: Based in Bordeaux, Seen On TV is the boss of the Discoalition label, which to date has released two of his own and four V/A EPs. Now here comes EP number three, toting two near-instrumental jams. 'Evolution' centres around some postively rude funk squelch that owes more than a little to Parliament's 'Flashlight' by way of inspiration, so to say it wouldn't sound out of place dropped immediately before or after said classic should be taken as praise indeed! The second track, 'Heartbeat', sports a minute-long percussive intro, but thereafter operates in not dissimilar territory, though here Zapp or 70s Cameo might be more apt reference points.

Fantasy EP
A Digital Needle - "Fantasy" - (8:07) 115 BPM
SEEN ON TV - "Time Warp" - (5:13) 105 BPM
Rare Cuts - "So Good" - (6:33) 105 BPM
Coutel - "One And Only" - (5:59) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Some seriously sweet ass edits again courtesy of the discerning Discoalition authority, a label based in Bordeaux (France) and managed by head honcho SEEN ON TV. First up A Digital Needle takes the razor to Bruni Pagan's 1979 digger's delight "Fantasy", UK heroes Imagination get an ergonomic edit too, but for DJ use only with Rare Cuts' version of their 1981 classic "So Good". Finally "One And Only" by Coutel has those feel good, summertime, soul disco vibes with a loop taken from a particular classic but we don't kiss and tell on this one: keep diggin'!

Flashback EP
Shit Hot Soundsystem - "Flashback" - (5:29) 112 BPM Hot
MP Unlimited - "Float On" - (6:03) 115 BPM
JB Dizzy - "Love Slip" - (6:02) 118 BPM
SEEN ON TV - "Reach For The Stars" - (4:56) 115 BPM
Review: Known for their releases on Yam Who's Midnight Riot, the appropriately-named Shit Hot Soundsystem call shotgun on this latest digital drop from Bordeaux-based Discoalition label. "Flashback" is a wonderfully vibrant slice of retro modern disco, taking all that is classic about the genre but executing it with a contemporary sheen. It sets the tone for this EP as a whole to be honest; witness the delightful disco chug of MB Unlimited's "Float On" or the filter heavy funk stomp of JB Dizzy's "Love Slip". Discoalition founders SEEN ON TV round out matters with the brass heavy delights of "Reach For The Stars."

Review: Having spent much of the last two years establishing Discoalition as one of the edit scene's more reliable labels, boss man Seen On TV has finally decided to deliver a follow-up to his 2015 EP French Kiss. It's an expansive, action-packed affair, with six solid reworks to choose from. Highlights include the elastic bass and bustling disco grooves of opener "Non Stop Dancing", the saucer-eyed, loved-up boogie bliss of "French Kiss", the thrillingly loopy and intoxicating "Lazy Afternoon" (a DJ-friendly instrumental version of an early '80s cut that's notoriously hard to mix) and the hazy disco-funk warmth of the two tunes that close the EP, "Never Enough" and "Shift". The latter, with its spiraling horn lines and twinkling vibraphone lines, is particularly memorable.
