Review: With 30 tracks to choose from, you certainly can't fault this latest collection of re-edits from Manolo Brigante's Vienna-based WE MEAN DISCO!! stable on the value for money front. You might, admittedly, question whether a collection that packs reworkings of Chic's 'Good Times', Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On', James Brown's 'Sex Machine' and Peter Gabriel's 'Sledgehammer', among others, can really set sail under the 'deep disco' flag and keep a straight face. But never mind that, because there are some very playable remakes on offer here for sure, ranging from the lightly beefed-up to the truly transformational - as well as plenty of less obvious sources to keep the 'spotters happy.

Review: With the year drawing to a close, there is no doubt in anybody's minds that the Four40 team have put together another spectacular year of content. They have decided to celebrate this with another top notch compilation, with '11 Years Of Four40' exploring some of this year's biggest releases. The company the LP keeps is pretty outstanding, with the likes of Burt Cope, MPH, BWK Project, KASTLE, Jakobin, Papirus, Tuff Culture, Yemi and many many more all getting involved. As always with Four40 however, we have some very specific favourites we want to dive into, first off with Tee Vis & Phoebe Freya's super catchy singalong 'On You' absolutely smashing the charts at the time of its original release. We also can't miss our Royal Flush's fabulous rework of 'Gettin' Your Love' from George IV, WZA's Don't Wanna Give Up' and of course the Hybrid Theory rethink of 'Like You' from Blakk Habit, which to this day still receives reloads in the dances around the country. Another fabulous year for the Four40 crew!

Review: Glitterbox resident Dr Packer is a leading light of the contemporary disco scene, while Dave Lee was arguably THE key architect of the whole post-house disco phenomenon in the first place. So when the former helms a compilation on the latter's label, you'd expect great things, and suffice to say you're very unlikely to be disappointed. Hell, for this writer the deep n' sultry JN Revival Mix of early 90s classic 'Do What You Feel' is worth the price of admission on its own, but with Packer's own remixes of label favourites making up over a third of the tracklist, the collection as a whole is pretty much unmissable.

Instead, we're offered a vast number of previously unheard re-edits, remixes and original productions. It's a successful blueprint and one religiously adhered to on Hot Digits: Year Seven, the popular imprint's latest must-check collection. There's not enough room to single out every sonic highlight, but our current favourites include the breezy boogie squelch of Ross Fitz's 'I Miss Your Love ('85 Mix)', the driving deep house haziness of Fingerman and Henri Le Blanc's 'Leave Your Cares Tonight', the neo-trance cheeriness of Picklejam's 'Endorphin Situation' and the stab-happy, peak-time house retro-futurism of 'The Feeling' by Downunder Disco.

Review: Next up from EQ Why, we see a full-length powerhouse of an album project landing on Equalized, delivering us no less than sixty original creations, showcasing the full spectrum of footwork and juke music in 2021. We get the immediate impression this project is designed to be taken in via long-play format, with each track lasting, on average, between forty-five and ninety seconds, keeping the tracklisting lively and unpredictable as we cycle through. From the groovy melodic switch-ups and high-intensity drum chops of 'Letting You Back' and 'No Good No Good', to the more jungle-inspired synth sweeps of 'On My Lap' and futuristic, blippy electronics of 'Reflux', we hear this album dive left, right and centre, giving us an extremely interesting musical journey from start to finish.

Review: This is an album for any discerning D&B head who has been locked in to the sounds of D&B this year. Featuring the likes of SL8r, Kumarachi, DJ Hybrid, Bou and Stompz, this big LP touches right onto the pulse of where the D&B scene is at the minute: long basslines, raucous atmospherics and downright dirty vibes. Bou provides that from the very start with his remix of 'Raised In The Jungle' by DJ Hybrid and MC Haribo, a full-throttled run through the Mancunian space in the Bou fashion that we all already know and love. 'Liberation' by RMS is another highlight, slightly more stripped back than some of the other offerings but still with plenty of force to go around. This is a fat release.

Review: Some two years after founding their fast-rising Of Paradise Recordings label, founders Paul Patterson and Lauren Chalmers have decided it's time for a tidy compilation of fresh material from label artists old and new. The first portion of the collection focuses on wonderfully deep, woozy and occasionally Motor City influenced house haziness (see the sublime cuts from Soela, Polejam and Deejay Bloom), before Stratton drags us kicking and screaming towards peaktime floors via the Head High style piano anthem that is "The Keys". Review: It may have taken eight years, but Joey Negro has finally got round to putting together a follow-up to his superb Backstreet Brit Funk compilation. Like its predecessor, this sequel shines a light on Britain's under-appreciated musical response to the U.S soul, jazz-funk, disco and electro scenes of the late 70s and early 80s. On the whole, the showcased tracks are altogether deeper selections than those found on volume one, meaning obscure highlights come thick and fast. These include - but definitely aren't limited to - the low-slung disco-funk of Rick Clarke's "Potion", the glassy-eyed breeziness of Paradise's "Stop and Think", the footworker-friendly jazz-funk riot of Touchdown's "Ease Your Mind" and the samba-soaked carnival flavours of "Brazeila" by Brazeila. Oh, and a killer dub of Janet Kay's overlooked Brit-boogie classic "Eternally Grateful" that has never before been released.

Review: When Eskimo Recordings approached Bill Brewster with the idea of putting together a compilation exploring his epic record collection, the acclaimed journalist and DJ decided to take a widescreen approach. While the CD and vinyl versions are split into multiple, themed editions ("Post-Punk", "Balearic" and "House"), this vast, 41-track digital edition gathers everything together in one place. Predictably, it's a hugely impressive and eye-opening set, with Brewster serving up largely obscure or long-forgotten cuts that range in scope from trippy, dubbed-out post-punk disco, jaunty jazz-funk, synth-heavy boogie and heavily percussive Afro-disco grooves, to saucer-eyed European synth-pop, the dub techno of Maurizio, Swag's early UK tech-house and the East Midlands deep house bump of Charles Webster's "A Love From San Francisco" project. In other words, it's a cracker from start to finish.

Review: Valique is currently neck and neck with Rayko in a furious battle for the title of disco's most prolific re-editor. Here he nudges in front by a nose thanks to another six-track selection of dancefloor-ready reworks. As usual, he adds his magic touch to a range of well loved and lesser-known cuts, kicking off with an undulating, party-hearty extension of David Bowie's "Fame". Happily, they've dug deep into their crates, putting together a selection that blends back catalogue material from the Nang and Tirk labels (Ruf Dug's quirky mix of Klein & MBO's Italo-disco classic "Dirty Talk", the blissful nu-Balearica of Sorcerer, AN2's overlooked rework of Space's "Carry On, Turn Me On") with vintage material and overlooked gems from a decade of nu-disco (see the early Hans-Peter Lindstrom remix of Fuzz Against Junk's "Country Clonk").
