Review: Not one week from their last Disco Cakes release, Defkline and Red Polo return on sister label Hot Cakes for another pair of rambunctious party bangers. "Oh Sevre! Look What You Done" sees the pair rework Julio Bashmore's ubiquitous hit "Au Seve" to fine effect across two versions. The "Breakbeat Garage" version does exactly what it says on the tin, cutting up that infectious bassline and giving it a touch more bite, while the drum & bass mix ramps things with a crazy tempo and thick subs. If such a thing is possible, Defkline & Red Polo have actually improved on the original.
Review: DJ Defkline, Red Polo and Dustin Hulton team up for this killer three track EP on Booty Breaks. The highlight here has to be the L'Trimm sampling "Cars That Go Boom", which turns the late 80s Miami Bass ode to car speakers into a smashing breakbeat jam. Also check out "Flat Toes" which throws a killer vocal over Mr Oizo's timeless electro cut "Flat Beat".
Review: Always boasting a well-stocked arsenal of mash ups and breakbeat remakes, the Booty Breaks label drop three new beats on this long-running series - this time supplied by crafty cutters Defkline and Red Polo. "Power Boots" revisits a '90s euro house classic, Drake's teary-eyed raps get a pleasing beat-driven overhaul on "Take Care" while excellent tropical electro banger "Go Outside" rounds off the set.
Review: It looks like DRMTRK have done it again here as they arrange a top draw line up to join the legendary Scratcha DVA on 'DRMTRK VIII'. We kick off some super slick production along with an incredibly lively vocal performance from Mez, who lets loose with some typically energetic flows over a grimey madness from Scratcha. Following this, Griffit Vigo joins the party with some excellent contributions on the unpredictable drum work of 'Goosebumps', with DJ Polo then getting involved on 'Boog'; a bass heavy ride through interesting funky grooves and well designed percussive layers.
Review: Having appeared deep in a compilation for Berlin's Through These Eyes Records, Bristol's Polo Lilli is given a full debut on Dj Alyaz's Sapyens label with this five-track debut EP, Trust. Throwing down all matter of breaks, melodies and basslines dubs in "Leave", cut up jungle, two step and 5-0 sirens fall into a pit of deep subbiness in "Geology". The title track turns in a frenetic and heavily tremolo reflective number of synths and feel good atmospheres, while more beatdown UK hip hop arrives in "Magnolia (feat 1990s Chris)". And for your touch of frenetic future funk, hit up "Care". All you gotta do.
