Review: Dusty, slammed down disco-house cosmiq. Whatever you wanna call it; space western discoteque pop from the techno future is still fun too. With dub trailing atmospheres streaking across the face of tracks like "The Light", all three here surf the skywaves of Detroit techno and Chicago house, lifting key notes and aquatic stabs from somewhere deeper in between too. Ripping key-tars and twangs bring the funk in "Volpi Polari" with "Fluto" going to Eiffel tower heights of Jean Michelle Jarre trance and '90s warehouse beats to lift you high.

Review: The first track on this EP will smack you about a bit. You have been warned. Beginning all sweetness and light with soulful diva vocals and grand piano sound, when that bass drops, it means it. A big part of the scene over in Cali for nearly a decade, Chorux may well have sounded his own starting shot to take over the UK with "Don't Even Know". "Polaris" is similarly unforgiving, this time pushing futuristic visions over weighty bass. Taking it a little easier in "It's All Happening", a touch of jazz crops up here and there in-between electro bass rips and a minimal anti-drop chorus. "Away From The Light" ramps up the menace again for a swansong of dark electric and lightning-bright flashes of warped synths.

Review: Lisbon's Discotexas return with Mexican producer Bufi and his Revalacion LP. The solo project of one Mateo Gonzalez Bufi, a producer hailing from Mexico City who claims to have been influenced by a wide variety of genres ranging from early chicago acid house or detroit techno, to scandinavian nu-disco, to post-punk and krautrock. He's released previously on ISM, Kitsune and La Belle. Starting out with the slow burning EBM of "Apocalipstick (feat Franka Polari)" or the lo-slung acid house of "Dan's Return (feat Zimmer)", there's more variety on offer in the form of "Peaks" and its dark, slinky tech house stylings or the the brooding, Crosstown Rebels style deep house of "New Ground (feat Lalolimann)".

Review: Following a stellar first year in 2018, the These Things Take Time label returns with their highest profile EP to date. It comes from Californian artist Taylor Freels under his now familiar Urulu alias. The experienced artist flexes his production muscles on "Metroid", a decidedly spacey deep house number that wraps intergalactic chords and Ron Trent style instrumentation around a tough beat, before joining the dots between Motor City futurism, electro and deep house on the similarly inclined "Polaris". "Static Dancer" sees Freels move further towards classic UK tech-house territory (think late 90s, rather than 2019), while standout cut "Orbital" sits somewhere between sub-heavy San Francisco dub house and out--of-this-world ambient techno.

Review: Here we have the first ever release from Polari, a new label set up by Northern Irish DJ/producer Cormac, and doing the honours is London producer Kiwi, whose work has previously graced imprints such as Future Boogie, Needwant and Optimo. 'Hit Me', the standout for this reviewer, is an uptempo instrumental that sits right on the house/disco cusp and sports some very 'Star Trek'-like synths as well as a euphoric hands-in-the-air piano line. 'Schulze' is more electronic-sounding and veers towards Italo, while finally 'Clack The Fan' is an almost archetypally Balearic affair that comes with or without a 80s-sounding male vocal snip that repeats throughout (or doesn't).

Review: The latest singing on Pleasurekraft's label are Beico & MT93, an Argentine act. The title track is not dissimilar from the Kraftek owner's own approach; revolving around an intense, pumping groove and a razor-sharp percussive accompaniment, it sees snare rolls, break downs and a visceral rave riff all coming together to create dance floor chaos. "Polaris" is also highly effective, but uses a slightly different approach; although it is centred on grainy, steely drums and a pumping groove that house insistent vocal snippets, it too features dramatic break downs and the kind of rave-addled bass that will guarantee it gets played in big rooms across the globe.

Review: As the matter-of-fact title suggests, Mixing & Remixing gathers together a selection of the finest reworks from hard-working Grecian producer Angelos "Timewarp" Stoumpos. He stamps his now familiar 'nu-disco meets deep house' style over tracks from Quiet Fire, Noetic Nega and Gabriel Rocca, occasionally diverting to pay tribute to funk-fuelled hip-hop (the slick, synth-heavy old skool revivalism of his take on Morlack's "Let's Go Jamming"), and lay down some tougher, more obviously house-centric reworks. Of these, it's his version of "Hr Tichy" by Shanti Roots and Scheibosan - a dubby tech-house chugger full of exotic, Middle Eastern strings - that really hits the spot.

Taking crisp production and mixing it with his trademark magpie-like sampling, the album spans from lounge electronica in the tone of Air or Royksopp to harder footwork and dubstep-influenced rhythms. Review: Something of a trip back in time here, as Polari bring us a four-tracker from Romain FX that mixes influences from cosmic/Italo disco, early Balearica and first-generation house. The lead track is well chosen, with 'Convention Of Love' standing out thanks to its sultry, spoken female vocal and air of Middle Eastern exoticism, but elsewhere you'll find the slab of sheer back-to-88 nostalgia that is 'Jungle Sex', plus the sweeping, dramatic and hi-camp 'Red Dreams', with its hints of Belgian new beat, and - to close out the EP on a similarly Middle Eastern-inspired note to where it started - the hypnotic, percussion-heavy 'Cairo Groove'.
