Review: Amazingly, it's 25 years since George 'E.A.S.E' Evelyn and then production partner Kevin 'Boy Wonder' Harper sat down and recorded "Dextrous", their monstrous, bleep-era classic on Warp. A quarter of a century later, Evelyn is still going strong, though the grooves have mellowed a lot in that time. Here, Warp celebrate the producer's epic career with a much-deserved retrospective. All the familiar favourites are present, from the rush-inducing thrill of early dancefloor smashers "I'm For Real" and "Aftermath", to the sinewy downtempo goodness of the decidedly Balearic "Les Nuits", the blazed hip-hop dub of "195 Llbs" and stoner soul of "70s 80s". This version also includes a number of exclusive remixes, with names like JD Twitch, Special Request, LFO, Morgan Geist and Loco Dice putting their own spin on this classic material.

Review: With Ibiza's extended summer season almost upon us, Toolroom has served up a suitably epic collection of cuts that it expects to be big on the White Isle this summer. Label boss Mark Knight has provided a trio of DJ mixes ("Poolside", "Club" and "Afterclub") and the unmixed tracks included all fit into these loose categories. There's not enough room to list all of the highlights, but we've been enjoying the funk-fuelled disco-house rush of Illyus and Barrientos' "The One", the sleazy, bass-heavy bounce of Max Chapman's "Steppa", the acid-powered tech-house-jack of Del-30's "Gravity" and the weighty, mind-altering thump of "Low End Theory" by Eli Brown.

Review: As the year comes to a close, labels are naturally offering up celebratory compilations showcasing their strongest releases of 2019. The latest comes from Midnight Riot, a prolific imprint that rarely fails to serve up the fieriest contemporary disco heat. As you'd expect, the 26-track selection includes a blend of superb original productions (the nu-disco soul warmth of Jack Tyson Charles' "Glory", Alton Edwards sweaty, synth-bass propelled boogie-house gem "I Just Wanna Spend Time With You", the swirling disco headiness of Arthur Baker's "Reachin' Out") and re-edits/reworks (Dr Packer's gospel boogie revision "The Power", C Da Afro's disco-funk slammer "Party Purpose" and the suitably celebratory "Boogie On Time" by Ladies On Mars). Review: It has been quite a year for the Toolroom institution. Celebrating their 15th birthday last year, they weren't ones to rest on their laurels, instead going full steam ahead with a bunch of genre defining compilations this year. But most importantly they have been instrumental in the comeback of funky house after a 20 year dormancy, with killer releases by the likes of Weiss, Cashio and boss man Mark Knight himself. Add to that one banging party at Chicago Social Club for Amsterdam Dance Event and it's evident that these guys are proper 24 hour party people. With a glorious year sadly coming to an end, celebrate a wonderful one that was on Best Of Toolroom 2019 with highlights not limited to: the rework of the Cevin Fisher classic "Freaks Come Out" by Jack Back, Hannah Wants & Kevin Knapp's deep down and dirty "Call Me" (extended mix), UK heroes Alan Fitzpatrick & Wheats delivering the certified banger "M27" and New York legend Todd Terry teaming up with Tuff London on "Psychodrama" featuring Jasmien Nanhekhan. Review: International Feel returns with the re-release of a record that inspired the label's foundation in Punta Del Este, Uruguay back in 2009. Originally released back in 2008 on the rarely seen and now seemingly dormant Misericord label, "Boutade" by Belgian duo Mugwump was exclaimed by the revered Bill Brewster as "one of the tracks of the noughties" and listening back to the thick acid bassline, slightly over the top orchestration and a chugging 107BPM groove now it's hard not to disagree. It certainly sounds as ripe for the modern disco floors as it did some 5 years ago, and this new edition also sees Mugwump turn in a "2103 Techno Redux" which isn't necessarily techno but does update the track.

Review: Belgian producer M-Zine and Doc Scott's ThirtyOne Recordings is definitely a combination to get excited about. M-Zine makes tough, rolling beats for the likes of Dispatch and Overview, and his partnership with one of the scene's best curators has unsurprisingly birthed an instant classic of an EP. Redux is filled with metallic textures and other-worldly scapes, an abstract EP but one that's still deeply tied to fractious clubland rhythms. 'The Dread' is a great example, with a simple, repetitive structure but one whose expertly crafted bassline bores a hole into your soul with its perfectly balanced groove and sheer clarity of sound. One for the heads.

Review: Robbie Blanco's Melbourne-based re-edits label serve up a third 'best of' collection in honour of their fifth birthday. To call these 're-edits', though, is perhaps to do them something of a disservice: whlle many re-editors will simply loop up the familiar parts of a much-loved classic, Redux Inc like to get a little more hands-on, to the extent that some of these tracks are really closer to covers or sample-based 'tributes'. Either way you get some familiar cuts from the likes of the Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Lonnie Liston-Smith and Jackie Moore mixed in with slightly more esoteric nuggets, all capably rejigged for maximum contemporary dancefloor appeal.

Packing plenty of punch in the drums - there's no denying the dancefloor designs of what's on offer here. Take the epic disco strings of "Keep Your Body Working" and "Super Lover" to the soulful diva sessions in "Real Love". Review: In the 12 years since he unfurled acclaimed debut album Clarence Park, one-man electronica factory Chris Clark has produced a vast body of work. He's been particularly busy on the remix front, completing a huge array of reworks. It's this work that makes up the vast majority of Feast/Beast, a remix retrospective (which, curiously, also includes some notable reworks of his material) split into two distinct halves. The first disc, Feast, focuses on the more melodic, other-worldly end of his output, delivering wide-eyed remixes of Amon Tobin, Kuedo and, most beautiful of all, Silverman. Beast, the second disc, moves into darker, tougher territory, joining the dots between techno, bass music, vintage hardcore and wonk-hop thanks to notable versions of Massive Attack, Maximo Park and Depeche Mode.

Review: Here comes a lavish disco drop from the Redux Inc stable who present this fat and loud serving of party provisions. First up is T.S. Monk's 'Candidate For Love' which gets re-rubbed by Casa Blanco for a sizzling peak time disco inferno. Then Incognito and Jocelyn Brown's perennial 'Always There' gets sent into the cosmos thanks to 'Re-Invention Of Time' version, while Lonnie Liston Smith's 'Expansions' gets turned out in style with the 'Sands Till The End Of Time mix'. Finishing with yet another banger, Sylvester's 'I Need You' gets the 'NS & LG Phunky' treatment with all the wildest hooks of the seminal disco track buffed up and placed front and centre.

Review: Draw a line from boogie to Balearica, via Italo disco and deep house, and somewhere along that arc you'll find this latest V/A collection from Manchester's long-running Paper Recordings. Crazy P have been in the Paper camp since the early days so are a fitting choice to open proceedings with the gloriously hazy 'Last Knockers', after which other standouts for yours truly include the slow-building, prog-leaning acid of Anisto Tropics' 'Topaz', Natasha Kitty Katt's typically infectious remix of Diskobeistet's 'Gammal Morro' and the sunny, summery disco-house of Benny Pitcher's 'Transatlantic Motion', until finally MADe's 'You're The One' plays us out on a mellower, more downtempo note.

Review: Paper Recordings' rag-tag bunch of "renegades, outliers and mercenaries" assembles once more for the fifth edition of the label's ongoing Wild Army series of EPs. Kennedy and Matt Prehn lead the line with 'Le Freak', a hazy-but-crunchy chunk of woozy disco-house hypnotism, before J Kara melds together vintage Larry Heard bass, spacey synths, sustained organ chords and crispy broken house beats on 'El Salvador'. Pictotropico successfully dips the tempo on the squelchy and chugging 'Front Tears' (look out for the subtle nods towards a turn-of-the-80s Peter Gabriel classic), R-04 and Mike Wyatt pay tribute to piano-heavy Italian house on the ultra-dreamy 'Konban Wa (Real Version)' and Hardway Brothers propel us into deep space on a sublime, headline-grabbing rework of their collaboration with Secret Soul Society, 'We've Landed'.
