Review: In three years the Get Twisted operation has put out as many compilations, and on this one DJ Q delivers some thumping pop-step in "Dreams". Furthermore there's the deep and dark bassline house of "Cut It Push It" by Riddim Commission and Taiki Nulight, while H Two O's "Need You More" is a sublime slice of haunted electro-house. And for some tropical acid and warped R&B vocals check out "Gossip" by Nick Tee.
Review: Well established US label Muti Music's latest signing, Knight Riderz, mark their debut on the imprint with a nicely varied six track EP. With four stand-out tracks, namely "Mind Riddim", "More Fire", "Six 2 Midnight" and "Mind Riddim Dub", Knight Riderz have certainly delivered on this one. While Juakali's vocal on the atmospheric dancehall influenced "Mind Riddim" jacks up the energy, "Mind Riddim Dub's" tantalizing sparse use of the vocal elevates the track to new heights. With finger clicks and water droplets, "More Fire" is intensely deep and atmospheric, intricately bubbling along and seemingly drawing influences from old 8-bit video games. With more 8-bit bleeps and melodic arpeggios, "Six 2 Midnight" captures a slice of nostalgia for the 80s generation without alienating the kids that will inevitably be shocking out to this one. A great release!
Review: There aren't many labels operating within the spheres of bass music that are able to keep pace with the freight train that is Night Bass, who seem to be dropping a top draw release every three weeks at least. This latest project sees them compile the second edition of 'Night Bass Remixed', featuring some heavyweight recreations from the likes of APEXAPE, 219 Boys, Proxy and a bag more high profile names. For us, the immediate stand outs on this one have to come from Codes & Stranger who rework the magnificent 'Big Riddim' featuring Jamakabi, along with Taiki Nulight's powerful overhaul of the classic 'Keepmastik' from Phlegmatic Dogs.
Review: The Night Bass crew promised an 'epic selection of new tracks...a colorful mix of styles' for the second installment of their This Is Night Bass series, and they haven't let us down. The nine sizzlers included here really do capture a snapshot of here the bass scene is currently at. Highlights include the doomy house of "Bodyback", the raw techy disco of Sinden & Bot's "Grit Manis" and the brooding jacker "Shotgun" by Landis & LaPace.
Review: The good folks over at Deeper Vision Recordings are coming at your ears this week with a fiery, upbeat and essential compilation that blends together several different traditions of the UK underground, including drum & bass, jungle, reggae and more. Dub Defense's remix of 'Party Non Stop' is a standout, it's raucously heavy breaks flowing through the middle of a wobbling, classic bassline and underpinning Ted Ganung's flowing bars. There is a wicked contribution from V Recordings' Think Tonk, whilst David Boomah makes an appearance on Granata's remix of his tune Nuff of Dem Re-Load. Wicked compilation.
