Review: Toolroom sets its sights on the summer season with Aporia. Mandolini has constructed something very straightforward and effective here, a peak-time roller that washes in, its loose tribal drums supporting noisy sweeps, and soulful, blissed out vocal samples. However, it's the club version that impresses most; the beats are harder and denser; combined with the rippling bassline, the approach could be more rigid and soulless. Thankfully, Mandolini filters the vocal in and out of the mix and uses that most effective of old school combinations - chord sweeps and intermittent yet insistent snare rolls - to create the desired, euphoric effect.
