Review: Shdw and Obscure Shape run From Another Mind and this four-tracker shows why the label has become so well-regarded in hard techno circles. First up, the pair deliver the ebm-tinged title track, where a rough bass and pulsating acid build gradually to a heady climax. 'Bisswunden" is much heavier and faster, as the German pair drop visceral drums and furious percussion, while on "Blick Des Bosen", they drop a stab-heavy groove that drops and builds to the sound of a buzzing siren. "Kein Entkommen" is different again, with a moody bass providing the backdrop for rolling break beats.

Review: From Another Mind, founded in 2014, presents its fourth and most capacious release to date. Having started off initially as a South-German Party series, this release sees commanders-in-chief SHDW & Obscure Shape invite back previous guests from the clubnight, just this time using their talents as remixers to breathe new life into the first three much praised From Another Mind records. The likes of Rodhad, Tale Of Us & Mind Against, Dax J, Konstantin Sibold and Shlomo all feature with contributions staying true to the Label's sound forged initially by its founders, and whether going down an epic or a more banging path, all versions pay respect to that special hypnotism which has found so many supporters. Veteran Producer James Ruskin masterfully condenses "Nachtblende" down to a loop while Ryan James Ford brings a touch of IDM-ish Bleep Techno to "Augen Der Nacht". Ed Davenport explores his Inland project further, contributing a stepping techno journey which is only matched by Rodhad's version in its sheer vastness. The release is split in two version EPs, namely FAM004.1 & FAM004.2. Both artworks function by themselves however its full glory shines when held next to each other as the paintings complement each other.

Review: SHDW & Obscure Shape are the latest act to deliver an altruistic project, with all proceeds from the sales of the Charity Version remix project going to Medicines sans Frontieres. First up is Anterist with a pounding, industrial take on the pair's "Die Weisse Rose". This is followed by Jay Clarke's interpretation of the same track, with the Klockworks producer dropping a grungy bass- led groove that's peppered with spiky percussion and searing synths. In stark contrast, the Leksom version of the same track is a moody stepper, while STXRK delivers a driving, percussive version of "Gesang Der Toten Dinge", replete with searing synths and vocal snippets.

Review: For the latest From Another Mind release, label owners SHDW & Obscure Shape have invited an impressive line-up of artists to interpret their work. Hadone's take on "Die Prophezeiung" is a high-octane affair, resounding to pounding kicks and featuring mesmerising synths and spiralling acid lines. The MRD version of "Der Weg Des Kriegers" dispenses with melodies and focuses instead on a raw, industrial rhythm, while Stigmata's remix of "Die Augen Des Teufels" inhabits roughly the same territory, but focuses instead on a dark, pulsating bass. Exium's remix of "Blick Des B?sen" isn't as extreme, but it sees the Spanish duo dropping a visceral bass and tribal drums, while H?ctor Oaks dons his DJKAOS11later ego for the ebm-themed "Kein Entkommen".

Review: Opening the From Another Mind account for 2023, label owner SHDW & Obscure Shape deliver the intense Vergessene Welt. "Planet Der Sturme" gets the release off to a visceral start, thanks to its fuzzy, murky rhythm. "Der Urknall" adopts a different approach but is just as impactful; based on pounding grainy drums, it sounds like an interpretation of 90s Synewave techno, filtered through a modern studio. "Das Gefallene Konigreich" follows in a similar vein, albeit with blustering synths, while "Geburt der Erde" is a mesmerising acid workout. The title track brings the EP to a close in an uncharacteristically mellow mode, with the pair inspired by deep Detroit techno to create a hypnotic finale.

Review: Tale of Us launch their Afterlife label in style with the Realm of Consciousness compilation. Bringing together some of the best-known names in contemporary techno as well as a group of newcomers, it moves effortlessly between esoteric moods. Tale of Us contribute the ambient intro, while Monoloc and Woo York are both in more mellow form than usual on the melodic "Phoenix" and "Poseidon" respectively. Meanwhile, Recondite contributes the sad melodies and throbbing bass of "Murphy's Law" and Locked Groove balances supernaturally beautiful hooks with powerful bass pulses on "Emeralds". Even more dance floor-focused tracks, like Obscure Shape & SHDW's "Die Wiederkehr", are filled with trancey melancholia.

Review: The second instalment in Bpitch Control's compilation series gets off to a rousing start, with Rebekah dropping a pounding, hardcore-influenced techno track, "Last Summer". The same intensity levels are audible on Inhalt Der Nacht's "In Lust Verirrt" and Tham's "The Third Kind" but deployed differently, with both acts using swirling acid lines and blustery filters to arrive at the same destination. While keeping the focus on the dance floor, ebm influences loom large on "Herzschlag Der Figur" from German trio Die Selektion. The compilation also embraces ghetto techno as Andrew Moore delivers the slamming "That Makes Me So Horny" and big-room 303 mayhem on Alien Rain's "Dream Interceptor".

Review: The organisers behind German party The Third Room have responded to the coronavirus by setting up a label and tapping artists who played for them for the material on this split release. The proceeds from the sale of this EP will go to people who bought tickets for one of Third Room's cancelled events - a kind gesture. It's no surprise that the tracks on the compilation are reflective of the party's sound: Dax J and Obscure Shape & SHDW's contribution focuses on hard, fast acid; Inhalt der Nacht & Echoes of October drop the pile-driving "Beutezug" and even Ellen Allien's track is coated in ravey menace. The one exception to this approach is Hector Oaks's droning "Do You See The Light?"
