Review: Classic, old school and new school breaks with obvious NY influences boasting a four-part selection of 80s retro, electro & hip hop in Electric September's 1985! A solid 38 years later the genre still kicks with the synth action of "Break" leading the EP next to the slower, plodding grooves, vinyl scratching and slow mo Egyptian Lover drums that support the Beastie Boys-like vocals in "Brick By Brick". "1985" touches on a slight gothic or night driver tip, while "Ear Malfunction" featuring Johnny Scratch of the Geektronix crew keeps it buck wild with another serving of wax lyrical freshness.

Review: Ordinary People by Electric September is an old school electro/freestyle project from the British producer also known as Sikka. Whether it's the body rockin' electro beats of the title track, the dystopian bass frequencies of "Rock The Ship", the acidified heads-down techno of "X Ray", the depth charged breaks of "Project Chrome" or the fierce drum 'n' bass steppa "Always Be (Good)" which closes the long-player out - expect to hear a lot more about Doncaster's up and coming talent.

Review: Known primarily to date for putting out drum'n'bass and jungle, Sikkabrain now flips the script to deliver a killer electro EP from Electric September. Peppered with hip-hop scratching and vocodered vocals, the title track has a proper old school electro vibe. Combined with Electric September's crisp drums and icy synths, "Prepare..." is an exemplary workout. There's a different sound audible on "What Lies Beneath": more subdued than the title track, its murky bass and soundtrack-style synths lend it a mysterious, nocturnal feeling. It's testament to label owner Sikka's open-minded approach that the imprint is releasing such a distinctive electro EP.

Bass heads, you're in for a treat, as this EP unfolds we are exposed to such glorious, sonorous offerings as opener "September Sun" with a beautiful, impassioned vocal courtesy of Pyxis. Following this up is synth-soaring "Mega-Tron" with its grizzled, wobbly beats and scintillating melodies, as well as "Triangles" which goes darker and deeper, with dubbed out sounds, ominous movie samples and smashing snares. Finishing up with a "Zombie Apocalypse", this piece marks the end of a top-notch release.

Review: It's true that techno music is distinctly lacking as far as political satire is concerned, but it looks like Furfriend are about to change that. "September" is a stomping slice of industrial techno, led by distorted kicks and nasty electronic riffs, but easily the best thing about are the vocals, which document a homosexual encounter between the narrator and Russian president Vladimir Putin. The danger with such satire is that the music assumes secondary importance, but this is not the case here; label owner Perc delivers two hard-edged versions, while Vapauteen drops two remixes full of broken beat and the kind of tortured screams that provide some markedly darker music than his music for L.I.E.S. and Avian.

Review: Italy's Franco Sciampli, a 35-year veteran of the Rome club scene, brings us two re-edits of Barry White's 'September When I First Met You'. Original 12-inch copies of this 1978 soul/disco smoocher, something of an end-of-night classic, trade hands for north of ?15 so these new rubs represent good value for money even if Sciampli hasn't "done" a great deal to the track, other than dropping some of the verses in favour of looping up the chorus, with the main difference between the EdiThink and ReThink versions being a choice of string-led or percussive intro.
