Review: English nu-funker Conte Crux makes his debut on the mighty Breakbeat Paradise. Four cuts, each one coated with pure party persuasion with references and samples that every member of your floor will recognise. "Freak Money" fuses ODB with Missy Elliot with insanely funky results, "That's The Way" surges KC & The Sunshine Band to uptempo supremacy and "Take Me To The Q-Tip" lives up to its name thanks to a stunning funk riff and some of the Tribe Called Quest rapper's slickest spits. "With A Beat Like This" closes the show on a heady old school flex. Cue slamming breakbeats, soulful vocal cries and an array of snappy hip-hop samples - peaktime naughtiness is guaranteed.
Review: We don't know who is behind the Fabulous Lover project - for some reason, Rare Wiri has not released any details - but this debut EP is well worth checking out. Inspired by a mix of tactile, glassy-eyed British street soul, the 'quiet storm' soul-pop of Sade and the glossy, colourful sounds of mid-80s synth-soul, all four tracks are warming, laidback, softly soulful and blessed with some impeccable synth sounds. Highlights are plentiful, with our picks being the dreamy, head-nodding shuffle of deep Balearic soul number 'Evening Lights', the squelchy synth bass, smooth FM synths and AM radio-friendly warmth of nostalgic nu-disco number 'Take The Lead' and the club-ready '80s soul flex of 'It's Supposed To Feel That Way'.
Review: New Orleans' ensemble, Hot 8 Brass Band, are back with more of what they do best - bringing their raucous, genre-bustin' celebratory sound to the world. There is a mix here of three new tunes and some remixes to shake it like madman to with the seven minute trumpet-led mayhem of Can't Nobody Get Down leading the pack. Elsewhere "Take It To The House" is a simmering potboiler of rhythms and live favourite "That Girl" also appears. Reggae producer Wrongtom remixes their iconic cover of Sexual Healing, a tune also given a trippy reworking by Ray Cooper too!

Review: Every now and then the outre space-glam '80s outfits in Morlack's wardrobe start to beckon and before you know it he's rustled up another fine collection dedicated to his love of Go-Go, the cult proto hip-hop sound that emanated from Washington DC. If you're unfamiliar with this style, you can look to the Fresh Prince theme to get an idea (albeit a watered down version). For the real deal though check out the 13 raw cuts here that boast those signature rolling electro drums, funk samples and carefully layered acapelllas from the likes of King Tee and Chuck Brown.
Review: With an ever-strong commitment to their very unique brand of modern electronic dance music, the Night Slugs posse are rounded up once again for a stocktake on the follow up to the successful Night Slugs Allstars compilation. It's only with a chance to reflect such as this you can appreciate the range that falls neatly into the Night Slugs remit. At one turn you can be doused in the blinding sunshine of Girl Unit's cheery electro as on "Ensemble (Club Mix)", or at the next be confronted with the staggered stab frenzy of Helix's somewhat ironically named "Drum Track". Try reaching them without being thrown by Bok Bok's 31st century grime madness or Lil Silva's hyper-kinetic throwdown of mechanical psychedelia and you might have a chance of getting a handle on the label as a whole.
