Review: Sheffield's Project Allout don't mess about, having developed a reputation for championing all directions in the ways of bass. Every take on that three letter word is important to this label and that's why they cram so many hot jams onto their comps. Basically they're the Ferrero Rocher am-bass-adors and they are really spoiling us with 49(!) lengerz. Review: The Sound of Detroit by one of it's unsung heroes, Amp Fiddlers new album Motor City Booty coming straight off the D Funk assembly line, a full on dance floor affair from Motown to P-Funk, Techno and Neo Soul. This 11 track album produced by Amp Fiddler & Yam Who? includes the massive 'Soul Fly' sounding like a Mark Ronson production had he been hanging out with George Clinton's Parlet followed by the bonafide P-Funk anthem 'Steppin' both featuring the stunning vocals by the Dames Brown girls. Amp Fiddler is credited for taking both a young J Dilla and also Q-Tip under his wing teaching them his Akai MPC techniques, setting the path for some of Hip Hops finest recordings which have defined the shape of things to come. Review: Midnight Riot isn't messing around with this collection of remixes of tracks from Detroit veteran Amp Fiddler's recent Motor City Booty set. Label boss Yam Who has pulled out all the stops, drawing on both Midnight Riot regulars and genuinely hot talents such as Eli Escobar (whose slick, soulful house rub of "Soul Fly Part 2" is a highlight), Thatmanmonkz, Inkswel and Mark E (who genuinely steals the show with a dreamy, mid-tempo take on "Superficial"). Taken as a whole, it's far more "killer" than "filler", with sterling contributions from Sam Redmore (dub-flecked Afro-house goodness), Kid Sublime (sun-kissed boogie-soul), chewy Rubs (low-slung disco-house heaviness), and Modified Man (synth-heavy broken beat).

Review: It may have taken eight years, but Joey Negro has finally got round to putting together a follow-up to his superb Backstreet Brit Funk compilation. Like its predecessor, this sequel shines a light on Britain's under-appreciated musical response to the U.S soul, jazz-funk, disco and electro scenes of the late 70s and early 80s. On the whole, the showcased tracks are altogether deeper selections than those found on volume one, meaning obscure highlights come thick and fast. These include - but definitely aren't limited to - the low-slung disco-funk of Rick Clarke's "Potion", the glassy-eyed breeziness of Paradise's "Stop and Think", the footworker-friendly jazz-funk riot of Touchdown's "Ease Your Mind" and the samba-soaked carnival flavours of "Brazeila" by Brazeila. Oh, and a killer dub of Janet Kay's overlooked Brit-boogie classic "Eternally Grateful" that has never before been released.

Review: It's been eight long years since Joey Negro and Sean P compiled Supafunkanova, a killer collection of scorching funk jams from the disco and boogie era. This follow-up is, then, is well overdue. Happily, the track list is packed with even more obscure gems than the first - and that was hardly full of well-known fare. Naturally, there's much to admire amongst the 20 tracks, from the low-slung synths, P-funk attitude and sleazy vocals of Magnum Force's "Cool Out" and super-smooth jazz-funk of Samm Culley Band's "Walk", to the 12-minute sweaty grunt-a-thon that is Brenda Harris's brilliant "Making Love Will Make You Fit". In truth, we could have picked out another six or seven tracks as highlights; suffice to say, Supafunkanova Volume 2 is another quality collection.

Review: We can think of few DJs more suited to compile a retrospective of killer 1990s house and garage than Z Records boss Joey Negro and Fanatix member Neil Pierce. It's perhaps unsurprising then that this follow-up to Negro's admired 2015 compilation is packed to the rafters with must-have treats. There are naturally some suitably big cuts present - see Kerri Chandler's fine mix of N-Joi's "Anthem" and Todd Terry's rub of Martha Walsh's "Runaround" - but for the most part the selections will be new to all but a small collection of veteran US garage enthusiasts. Our highlights include the riff-powered goodness of Slam Mode's "100% Power", Marshall Jefferson's deep dub of Screamin' Rachael's "Rock Me" and the soulful rush of Donald O's "Everything's Gonna Be Alright".

Review: The second part of Margaman's broadsword, full-spectrum EP doublet on Ray Keith's still-vital Dread, here we're treated to the darker side of his true inner spirit as we batter our way through the shadows; the murky grimey halftime rolls of "Clip Off Your Wings", the Digital-style wall of sound "I Got A Question For Ya", the dancehall jungle groaner "Pis Pon Dem", the soaring roller "Finesse", the classic rave synths and Full Cycle-flavoured drum slap and tickle and the ludicrously low and rumbling "So Heavy"... Each track reminding us why he's become a go-to producer for some of the most important foundation DJs of the genre. Timeless heaviness.

Review: Aussie disco don Dr Packer has been Glitterbox Recordings' go-to remixer for some time now. Three years ago, the label opened up its archives and allowed him free reign to rework whatever he wanted, releasing the results as Dr Packer's Different Strokes. This belated sequel follows a similar blueprint, collecting together a wealth of remixes as well as a couple of non-stop DJ mixes of the same material. Much of the music is authentically disco-centric - think organic instrumentation, swirling strings and rushing vocals - with just enough grunt to please those dancefloors the require 21st century low-end weight. Highlights include a glassy-eyed take on Aeroplane's 'Love on Hold', a sing-along version of Lemelle's boogie gem 'You Got Something Special' and a handful of fine rubs of the Shapeshifters.

Review: Mark Knight's label brings together some of the sounds that were showcased over the course of the ADE. Basement Jaxx kick start the compilation with the stomping disco house of "Never Say Never", while Harry Romero shows that he's not just a US house head. Working with Doorly, he drops "The Truth", a tough techno track, led by heavy claps. The techno influence lingers on Maceo Plex's "Conjure Superstar", which features an unusual combination of rave sirens and sublime, 808 State-style synths. As is the case in the wider electronic world, this reinvention of the past is in abundance on Amsterdam 2014 and apart from Plex's track, the most impressive contribution is Dosem's "Chase the Link", which sounds like a particularly dark version of vintage Lil Louis.

Review: Groove Skool are back with the second edition of their 'Nu Grooves' EP series and we can confirm that is truly jam packed with incredible rhythms and summer slammers. As far as large scale garage projects go, it's been a long time since we heard a project this size boast such consistency start to finish, with tracks such as 'Sylvester's Groove' slapping you with nostalgic bliss and 'Crown Joule' providing a more subtle field of play. There's something for everyone for certain, with other highlights including the impeccable 'So We Sing' featuring Ilya, the super bouncy 'Something' in collaboration with Duncan Powell and of course 'My Hurt Goes On' with the awesome Keith Boon, working them into a classic UKG melody. Fantastic stuff!
