Review: Known just as much for his lustrous locks of hair as he is for his stylistic tech house grooves, the ever reliable Sidney Charles presents the next release on Dutch label Dark Side Of The Sun. The London-based German delivers three slammers here: from the hypnotic and swing-fuelled minimal funk of the title track, which gets a moody and rolling rendition by Italy's Leon (that is perfect for heads down moments on the dancefloor), to "Velo City" (ideal for the warm-up or afterhours alike), and the bass-driven party starter "Constant Emotion" with its trippy blips and bleeps backed by clipped rhythm programming - fans of 'Rominimal' take note!
Review: If you're after a spot of classically warm and melodious deep house that doffs a cap to various vintage producers, styles and sub-genres - think Nu Groove-era Burrell Brothers, New Jersey garage and early '90s Italo-house in particular - then this EP from Italian veteran DJ Soch should be right up your alley. Such is the quality of the five tracks on show that we're finding it tough to pick out individual highlights, though there's something particularly potent about the effortless warmth of title track "The Power Of Poetry", the chunkiness of the "trad garage" number "Magic Flute", and the luscious Italian dream house revivalism of the Don Carlos-esque "Round The World".
