Review: Munich's Jazz & Milk have rustled up this mini label comp to mark their current ten-year anniversary. We get four cool cuts from as many producers: "Dreams" by Sam IRL kicks things off with deep organic grooves and bleeps and "Technotrap" by Mieux sees a raw, frenzied beat underscore some seriously trippy arpeggiation. Elsewhere Dusty's "Heavy Lights" is more of a loopy 4/4 space disco jam and finally things end on a brassy New Orleans party tip with Todd Simon and the Angel City All Star Brass Band's cheery rendition of "Mas Que Nada".

Review: Athens Of The North are a Edinburgh based disco label and here they present a rare disco 'banger' to end 2017. According to the label, Star Quake came out of Columbus, Georgia and that's about as far as they got. Although nobody is sure of exactly which year it was produced/released, "Don't You Know I Love You" has recently risen in popularity with vinyl copies easily going for over $1000 and with good reason. A disco floater over some brilliant bass, the label boss Fryer also edited the second track "Don't You Know I Love You Pt.2" to remove the fade in - so it can now be dropped easily in a club. Happy New Year! AOTN has had a great year with edits for the likes of Ice, Benita, Pure Essence and Grupo Magnetico.

Review: Ten years ago, Eskimo Recordings emerged from Ghent, as an outlet for mix albums from hometown heroes the Glimmers. Since then, the label has gone on to be a leading light on the nu-disco and nu Balearic scenes. Fittingly, this expansive tenth anniversary set was put together by the Glimmers, and features two solo DJ mixes featuring label highlights aplenty. For DJs, the real bonus is the huge selection of unmixed tracks on display, which adeptly showcases the depth and variety of the label's output. Highlights are plentiful, from the woozy Scandolearic vibes of Lindstrom & Prins Thomas and brilliance of early Aeroplane, to the sun-bright dream pop of Hiem, and the bouncing dancefloor groovery of LHAS Inc.

Review: Fresh from delivering some jazz-funk influenced soulful house and broken beat flavours on Z Records, Lee Gomez AKA Wipe The Needle returns to Local Talk, a label he's been loosely associated with since 2019. The experienced producer immediately hits his stride with 'It's My World Ya Heard', a loose-limbed chunk of woozy deep house marked out by swinging beats, jazzy synth-bass and classic-sounding synthesizer chords. 'Would You' is a jaunty, soul-fired slab of samba-house loveliness smothered in futuristic jazz-funk synth sounds, while 'Fist of the North Star' is a sparkling, kaleidoscopic slab of heavily electronic broken beat/jazz-funk fusion full of subtle nods towards Motor City music and the hybrid works of Dego and Kaidi Tatham.

Review: Having navigated the scene since 2014 thanks to records through Correspondent, Obscura and Ellum Audio to Afterlife and Kompakt, Italian trio Agents Of Time follow up their Midnight Drive In Santiago EP with Prince Of The Stars. It sees the group welcomed onto Guy Gerber's Rumors label that so far counts Seth Troxler, Dixon, Miss Kitten and Puff Daddy as some of its crew. For a slow burning balearic number look to the acidish basslines of "Jimmy The Jester" to get you started with some more uplifting tones to match in the uptempo feels of "Mud Battles". There's some broken beat and melodic trance to be found in the lead track next to a garage-like framework in "The King Of Our Days" and a sublime house number, "Rise To The Power".
