Review: Following on from the first volume of Armada's Music Year Mix, this second edition brings the listener on a journey through a variety of house music hues and shapes. On the vocal end, there's Matt Guy's "Set My Mind", while Ben Hemsley ventures into cosmic territories on the Spanish language-sampling "Erase Me". Trance elements are audible on the epic breakdowns of Three Drives' "Greece 2000", while German duo Ame transform Moat's "Paradise" into a low-slung groove, led by a pulsating, throbbing bass. Joris Voorn's remix skills are also audible, with the Dutch producer adding some bleep-heavy, low-end weight to progressive star Eelke Kleijn's "Transmission".
Review: Armada Music 20 Years Classics pays homage to dance music's rich history and aims to educate a new generation of fans about the artists who shaped the genre. There's classics galore on this one as you'd expect, with several bangers by label chief Armin Van Burren, in addition to seminal anthems such as Joe Smooth's "Promised Land", Inner City's "Good Life" (remastered), Chez Damier's "Can You Feel It" (New York extended dub) and Olav Basoski's "Waterman" (extended mix), as well as appearances by newer artists like ANOTR, Patrick Topping and Jan Blomquist.
