Review: Valique's decision to shift his emphasis from funk breaks to disco edits a few years back now seems a wise one. His popular V's Edits series is now on its 17th volume, and as usual there's plenty of tried-and-tested dancefloor fodder on offer. While the EP's most outstanding track is a winding, decidedly Balearic, downtempo remix of Bryan Ferry's "Slave To Love", the rest of the EP is a funky and forthright as you'd expect. Highlights include a bouncy rework of Michael Jackson ("Heart B"), and an oh-so-smooth cut-up of Billy Paul (the sumptuous strings and eyes-closed guitar solos of "Sooner or Later"), but to be honest it's all pretty darn tasty.

Inevitably, some of the resulting concoctions work better than others - and which you think that applies to may depend on your views on the original source material - but if you're looking for a way to drag non-house/disco lovers onto the floor, this collection should serve you well.

Like its predecessor, Perfect Pitch largely sidesteps re-edits featured on physical releases, instead delivering a bumper selection of previously unheard reworks. Those who prefer their edits gently beefed up with the addition of club-ready beats will find plenty to enjoy, from DJ Steef's tweak of Van Morrison classic 'Into The Mystic' and DJ Laurel's chunky revision of disco-funk slammer 'Peace Pipe', to Sucka Tommy's bustling rework of Paul Simon's 'Me and Julio Down By The School Yard' and C Da Afro's disco bumper 'The Sunset Groove'. Review: This impressively expansive collection from experienced remixer Valique showcases some of the best downtempo and Balearic edits from his popular V's Edits series. There's certainly plenty to get the blood pumping and the juices flowing throughout, from a chugging, ten-minute take on Pink Floyd ('Brickwall') and a pleasingly squelchy take on Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams' 'Lose Yourself To Dance' (here renamed 'Lose Your Elf'), to a chunky dub-house re-imagining of Jimmy Cliff classic 'The Harder They Come' and a loopy, hypnotic, mid-tempo disco-rock revision of T-Rex ('Jewelry'). Throw in party-hearty takes on cuts from Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and the Beach Boys (an odd but impactful reimagining of 'Good Vibrations') and you have a great value compilation.

Review: Lino Rodrigues, better known as re-editor extraordinaire Alkalino, takes us on another trip down Memory Lane to the 1980s. Coming under the scalpel for a spot of cosmetic surgery this time out are (in order) Prince's 'Gett Off', Laura Branigan's 'Self Control', Oran 'Juice' Jones's 'The Rain', Madonna's 'Everybody', Marillion's 'Kayleigh', AR Kane's 'A Love From Outer Space', Prefab Sprout's 'When Love Breaks Down' and Kajagoogoo's 'Too Shy'. It's an eclectic selection for sure, and which tracks hit hardest for you will probably depend on how you feel about the originals, but give all of 'em a whirl because some of the reworks are quite radical in approach. And yes, we known 'Gett Off' is from 1991 but let's not get pedantic, eh?

Review: Despite the title there's no particular discernible 'summer' theme to this latest batch of re-edits from German maestro Alkalino, but that's probably just as well - after all, no one wants to hear 4/4'd up remakes of holiday 'classics' like 'The Birdy Song' or 'Agadoo', do they?! Instead the Audaz boss serves up another typically classy bunch of reworkings, drawing on sources that include Change ft Jocelyn Brown's 'Angel In My Pocket' ('I Remember All So Clearly'), Lenny Williams' 'Midnight Girl' ('The Music Plays And Plays'), Central Line's 'Walking Into Sunshine' ('I Got To Get Away') and Talking Heads' 'Seen And Not Seen' ('A Larger Forehead'), to name but a few.
