Review: Fans of Mark Williams may prefer the original versions on this release, but there is no doubt that this remix package scores highly on diversity. The remixes of "Change of Heart" range from the heavy, rolling tribal techno and whooshing effects of DJ Cristao & Toni Alvarez's take to the pulsing bass and chord stabs of Giacomo Stallone's version and Jesus Soblechero's tracky, stripped back interpretation. "The Low Talker" is also available in a variety of reshapes: from Josh Love's disco'n'strings sampling tribal pounder to Miche & Mirzinho's Ben Sims-inspired Hardgroove take and the grandiose swagger of Ortin Cam's epic take - indeed there is no doubt that there is something for everyone in the techno audience.

Review: More than any other dance label, Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels has a knack of signing timeless house music. It's evident on this, the second Rebel Rave instalment, with Guti & Dubshape's "Every Cow Has a Bird" offering a classic sound, as a disco groove unfolds to reveal rolling bongos and jazzy piano keys, or on Subb-an's "Misleading", a glorious deep house arrangement with a garage groove. However, there are also some excellent reinventions of the house style; Jamie Jones's "Summertime" reveals a darker side to deep house as a menacing bass surges to the fore; Quenum's "Woman Talk About Woman" features a crazy vocal freestyle over a jazzy groove and best of all, Art Department's "Without You" sounds like a dislocated, paranoid update on Nu Groove's bassy tracks.

Review: Italian singer Gabriele Poso has recorded with Nicola Conte and Osunlade, on whose Yoruba Soul label she released her debut album, From The Genuine World, in 2008. This second album picks off where that left off, offering sultry songs and summery soul steeped in afro-cuban rhythms, Spanish flamenco, sweaty salsa, breezy jazz and foot-tapping salsa. While occasionally earnest, it's largely an enjoyable journey, with glittering instrumentals (see "Dona Flor") complimenting the impressive range of songs on offer (Poso is equally adept at slow jams as uptempo floorfillers). There's also a decent collaboration with Osunlade, in the form of the super-soulful "You Don't Love Me".

Review: The Amazonian Estonian songstress makes her triumphant return to Not Not Fun with her third album in 18 months. It's easily the best collection of tracks she's produced in her short but productive career; sharpening up her sound but still remaining resolutely lo-fi. The chopped up eastern strings of opener "The Sound" showcases a new sample based direction, albeit one which melds with her foggy synths, while "I Don't Wanna Be Discovered" sees her advance the house sounds of her 100% Silk output with a genuine alternate reality 90s club hit, and "Sweet Synergy" indulges her hip-hop tendencies with an R&B jam to way only Minerva could do it. Like the equally prolific masters of decayed synths and weirdo lounge-pop Hype Williams, Minerva is only getting better with each release - brilliant stuff.

For DJs, the real bonus is the huge selection of unmixed tracks on display, which adeptly showcases the depth and variety of the label's output. Review: Andrew Field-Pickering is a unique talent. Under the Maxmillion Dunbar guise, he's treated listeners to a string of gorgeously kaleidoscopic releases that join the dots between sparkling electronica, E'd-up disco, next-level Balearica and effervescent deep house. With Woo, his first release for RVNG INTL, he's at it again. "Woo" is deliciously fluid, pitting brightly coloured electronic melodies and darting synths against stuttering drum machine rhythms and cascading chords. The beatless "Shampoo" is similarly lucid, delivering a steamy tropical shower of glistening electronics and synthesized steel drums. It's only the formidably robust "Drift" - a Disco Nihlist-ish exercise in analogue groovery - that breaks the spell. Essential.

Review: Following news that Ben Watt no longer intends to put out new music on Buzzin' Fly, the compiling and re-releasing of some of the highlights from the label's back catalogue is timely. This third volume focuses on the high point of the label's output, the golden period from 2007 to 2008. The dominant sound here is trancey and melodic, with synth sweeps combined with sensuous strings and woodwind samples. Manoo & Francois A embody this approach on the windswept "Magnetic", where epic, acid-led hooks build over dubbed out drums, while Pedro Madeira's "Long Shadows" moves from lush strings into an epic break down. Despite this approach, there is still space for classic US house, as the dubby drums of Dennis Ferrer & Steve Martinez' version of Ben Watt's "Lone Cat (Holding On)" demonstrates.

Review: US compilation kings Straight Up! rep the glitch scene once again. Their fifth collection in this series, it's business as usual as they explore every corner of the globe for the most exciting, creative sounds of the genre. Naturally they've nailed it as we're bombarded with raw creativity. Highlights include the lush emotional west coast funk synths of Au5 & Fractal's "Subvert", the psychedelic acid bubbles of Mizchief's savage dub-twisted "Hitman", the euphoric synth jet streams of Virtu's "Reyes" and the more experimental, tightly edited vocal cuts and insane reverse bass techniques on Left Side Dear's "Grapefruit Incident". 25 tracks in total, there's no better representation of contemporary glitches, Straight Up have delivered big time.

Review: A new mix from perennial party faves Soul Clap is always a cause for celebration, but there's something extra-special about this particular exercise in dancefloor nostalgia. Nice 'N' Ripe Allstars sees them revisit the bulging back catalogue of Grant Nelson's Nice 'N' Ripe label, an imprint that has tracked the rise, fall and subsequent rebirth of UK garage since its' birth in 1993. Soul Clap's mix - an action-packed 30-track affair featuring some of their own edits and remixes of classic cuts - does a great job in showcasing the best the label has to offer, flitting between early US garage style jams, loose soulful house, sturdy two-step, bass-heavy speed garage and the kind of long-lost jams which should be bitten by today's retro-minded house producers. In doing so, it offers an impeccable history lesson.

Review: Those who follow Belabouche on SoundCloud will know just what a prodigious re-editor he is; not a week seems to pass without a clutch of new scalpel works from the talented Italian producer. Here he brings his effortlessly soulful, loose-limbed approach to Yam Who's Midnight Riot label for the first time. All five tracks are excellent, with the baggy, string-drenched disco-soul bump of "Slide Into Your Heart" and dubwise funk thrust of "Money Runner" standing out. He mixes up the tempos well, with the EP's two slower moments - the sinewy jazz-funk headiness of "Open Your Mind" and intoxicating, horn-heavy "The Way We Live" - being particularly potent. If you're after edits that match dancefloor chops with an easy soulfulness, this should be an essential purchase.

Review: It's hard to believe, but it really is a whole year and half since we last heard from Jojo Effect. This time round on the 18 tracks on offer here (some are remixes), we encounter less of the electro, but more of the swing heard on previous releases. The overall effect is a smorgasbord of jazzy lounge styles that hark back to the 1940s with a little 21st century fizz, like the housed up Charleston jive of "Rockin' The Blue" and the Morcheeba-esque "Hollywood".

Review: For a label that only launched this spring, four volumes of creatively executed party jams is beyond impressive. We reckon this could be Funk Fusion's best yet, too. From Rhythm Scholar's respectfully tripped out twist on "Lucy In The Sky" to Fabioulous Barker's slap-bass blazed take on Skeelow via the funkiest ever version of 2Pac's "California Love", it's an impressive collection that leans towards the more subtle art of editing rather than crass bootleg cut-and-shuts and will have a lot more timeless appeal as a result.

Review: Valique's decision to shift his emphasis from funk breaks to disco edits a few years back now seems a wise one. His popular V's Edits series is now on its 17th volume, and as usual there's plenty of tried-and-tested dancefloor fodder on offer. While the EP's most outstanding track is a winding, decidedly Balearic, downtempo remix of Bryan Ferry's "Slave To Love", the rest of the EP is a funky and forthright as you'd expect. Highlights include a bouncy rework of Michael Jackson ("Heart B"), and an oh-so-smooth cut-up of Billy Paul (the sumptuous strings and eyes-closed guitar solos of "Sooner or Later"), but to be honest it's all pretty darn tasty.

Review: While they may have spent the last few years focusing on disco, Italo and electrofunk revivalism, the Lee brothers have released their fair share of deliciously Balearic material over the years. It's this side of their work that's showcased on To The Sunset & Beyond, a compilation that picks breezy, humid and sun-kissed highlights from their 20-year career. There's naturally plenty to get the juices flowing, from the cello-laden brilliance of stone cold classic "In The Trees", and the twinkling samba-soul of "Heartbeat", to the blustery live Afro-house of "Kariba" and string-laden ambience of "Weightless". There's also another chance to revisit Rae & Christian's cheery, rolling remix of "Samba", which first surfaced on Nuphonic way back in 1999.

Review: Having previously appeared on Masterworks Music, Outernational and Whiskey Disco, Tomas Malo should be a familiar name to those who closely follow the house-centric side of the disco re-edit scene. Here, he pops up on Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint with a quartet of tasty treats. While the more '80s soul inclined loop jams "Like The Sun" and "Talk of Love" - the latter giving an aural nod to Tiger and Woods - are fine dancefloor cuts, it's the EP's other two tracks that really sparkle. "Slave" is a killer, metronomic rework of the band of the same name featuring a killer bassline, while opener "Body Magick" - our pick - boasts an attractive filter-heavy, French touch style disco-house swagger.

Review: Israeli progressive house hero Guy J's career has gone from strength to strength in the last few years with most of his epic journey tracks being released on the legendary John Digweed's Bedrock imprint. Quite fitting then that he now releases his first full length for the label, with they describe as "a vast melting pot of sonic exploration." Starting out with the driving percussive techno of "Bungalow" and the heavenly "8 Minute Flight" it's then business as usual on tracks like "Fools Dont Last" or "Live Another Day" which nail that progressive journey sound that he's now synonymous with. Other highlights include the dark groove of "Nirvana" the eleven minute long epic "The Love & The Fear" and the atmospheric slow burner "Paradox". There's a lot to get through but it's all killer, no filler. Also comes as two continuous mixes as bonus tracks by Guy J himself.

Review: Given his credentials and track record, it's unsurprising that original disco and boogie artists are willing to let Joey Negro play around with their biggest hits. His first stab at this kind of multi-track remix, 2014's Remixed With Love, was such a success that he's decided to unleash another swathe of revisions over two vinyl double-packs. This edition features some killer reworks, including a sublime, on-point rearrangement of Gwen McRae's "Keep The Fire Burning" and a rolling, dubbed-out version of Grace Jones' "Pull Up To The Bumper" that rivals Larry Levan's classic remix. The veteran producer also successfully turns Pockets' "Come Go With Me" into a classic soulful house rub, and pushes Thelma Houston's "I'm Here Again" further towards disco anthem territory.

Review: Strut's archival remit remains as international as ever, with their latest compilation squaring the focus on late '70s Hawaii on the delightful Aloha Got Soul: Soul AOR & Disco In Hawai'i 1979-1985. Across the backdrop of societal change on the island (statehood into America in '59 and the Vietnam War) Hawaiian youth found inspiration in the music of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and later Earth Wind & Fire leading to a truly vibrant scene by the mid-'70s. It's after this where Strut pick up the story, bringing together a glorious 16 track collection that spans the genres and suggests Hawaii to be a most fertile location for music during this era. Review: London duo Jettricks corralled an impressive line-up of contributors for their successful 2012 album, Better Than Real Life. Now they've resurfaced to repeat the trick on Ten Out Of The Box. Review: Given the success of Faze Action's first trawl through the more sun-kissed sections of their vast back catalogue, it's little surprise to see the Lee brothers deliver a second volume. As with its predecessor, To The Sunset & Beyond shuffles around stylistically, taking in lilting Brazilian flavours (1999 single "Samba", the folksy "Struck"), Afro-influenced electrofunk (recent Zeke Manyika collaborations "Got To Find A Way" and "To Love Is To Grow"), dub disco (the Boogie Central mix of "Danae's Journey"), and, of course, plenty of cello-laden treats (a rare alternative version of "Moving Cities", the wonderful, Arthur Russell-ish "Venus & Mars"). In other words, it's a deliciously summery collection of tried-and-tested tracks. Recommended.

Review: 1981's An Eye For An Eye is, to this day, the only LP produced by Byrne & Barnes together, and it's as playful and fresh as the first day it came out. While it's a little more on the synth side of things, it reminds us of other blue-eyed soul artists such as Ned Doheny, and throughout its eleven tunes, there's plenty of romance, mystique and soul-ridden funk. Think of it as the prototypical bridge between a 70's jazz-funk LP and the beginning of pop music as we know it today. Blue-eyed soul at its finest!

Review: With this latest release on his fine Offen Music imprint, Vladimir Ivkovic has pulled off something of a coup. Ma is the first collaborative release from Ivan Smaghhe and Rupert Cross, a composer and sound designer who is best known for his work with fellow score maestro Patrick Doyle. It's an interesting and unusual set, with the duo utilizing a range of acoustic and electronic instruments to create tracks that variously touch on Don't DJ style polyrhythms, ambient mood pieces smothered in evocative field recordings, eccentric drone soundscapes, krautrock influenced compositions, shoegaze moods, and creepy, soundtrack style workouts. It's the kind of album that takes a few listens to really get under your skin, but it's more than worth the effort.

Review: Despite a career that stretches back to the tail end of the 1980s, Retro Soul is - somewhat remarkably - the full-length debut of Basement Boys man Teddy Douglas. Created with the help of vocalist Marcell Russell and his honeyed tonsils, the album begins with a spine-tingling acapella, before working through a range on sweet, immaculately produced, on-point soulful house gems. There are occasional smouldering ballads, torch songs (see "Good Morning Love" and the slick "Wonderful") and modern soul gems (the horn-heavy "Clap My Hands"), but for the most part it's a deliciously bright-and-breezy, dancefloor-centric set.
