Review: Killaz by name, killer by nature; Vital Elements and Tobie Scopes' continue to set the agenda as DJs, artists and as label owners. This third annual mix-up is certainly no exception as they plough through 59 tracks - many of which are brand new exclusives - to paint a picture of exactly where drum & bass is at right now. A thick smelly melting pot, everything is thrown into the mix: Upgrade's spine-trembling harmonics on "The Voice", ruded-out bassline badness from Voltage ("My DJ"), various jump-up hybrid creepers from Russian newcomer Ozma, brand new dark wobble lava from Serial Killaz themselves ("Rudebwoyz") the list goes on and on. This is a huge package and it comes with a superb mix too. Treat yourselves or defeat yourselves.

Review: Following his "Bloodclart Dubplate" EP this spring, Warhead returns to Sub-liminal with another generous five pack punch up that ranges from divine funk to guttural low end filth. The title track is one of Warhead's funkiest cuts to date with its urgent vocal and spacious sense of soul and freedom. It's joined by the sweeping gully drones of "Embers", the knuckle scuffing gritty bass of "Kill Ya Quick", the dizzy tribal rolls and jittering grizzles of "Start The Attack" and the siren blazing hair raiser "Watch It". As if that's not generous enough, there's an insane Dutta remix thrown in for good measure, too. Thinkin bout this?

Review: Paper Recordings' reputation precedes them in house circles. Now however, they've bitten the bullet and dived into the deep end of the disco pool with this compilation (on sub label Paper Disco) of current nu-disco producers and edit heroes. It's a brave comp that tackles every interpretation of disco, including 2 Billion Beats' deep '80s synth groover "See Us Through", Richard Seabourne's bizarre funk-goes-doomy 303 workout "This Is Acid" and Mezman's bass heavy, dream-pad odyssey. We're looking forward to plenty more disco thrills from this new stable!

Review: Unless you've been asleep since March or you've accidentally found this review while looking up an old school mate who happens to be called Richie (or Richard) Brains then you'll know EXIT played this mystery out in style. We all had suspicions on his identity but not even the biggest forum nerd could guess that it's actually Alix Perez, Chimpo, Fixate, Fracture, Om Unit, Sam Binga and Stray. Seven men, each one decorated and respected, their skills culminating in a body of work that's part funk ("Game Shades"), part Carptenarian cinematica ("Sk8 M8") part woozy, wonky halftime ("The Blips") part grime ("Bring Dat Back") part D&B beauty ("Voyage") and all gully. It's going to be hard to find a release more deserving of the title 'album of the year' this year.

They have done for almost five years now, and this new Riddim Return collection is a reminder of just how much ground they cover, how many super talented darksmiths they work with and how much skin of yours their releases will melt. Highlights on this 50 track strong collection (yes, 50!) come from every angle but you'd be mad not to lick a shot from Agro & Raz on their melted bass weird-out "Ah Like It", do air trumpet to Warhead's "Cop Killa" or get wonked the heck out by Leaf's concrete steps on "Hold Up". Review: Next up from the Escalation Sound crew, a vibrant link up between both Pengo & Kenji DnB, delivering six original heaters, jam-packed with a vibrant array of dancefloor ready themes. We kick off with 'We Bout To', a fierce whomper, slamming lethal synths with stripped back drum brucks, followed by the intricate percussive scuttles of 'Digitz' and the more offkey melodic splutters of 'Trust' to follow. From here, we continue down a road of weird and wonderful, with the laser-like synth leads of 'Let It Go' arriving with some serious punch, followed by the squelching bass crunches of 'Feel Alright' with Swifta and a gnarly finale across the scatty screams of 'You Shouldn't Be Here'. Overall, this is a fiery collection indeed.

Review: It appears that the Ghetto Dub Recordings team has assembled one hell of a roster for this one as they unleash the fully unmixed version of the Dubz: ReRubbed album project, allowing us to enjoy each and every tune in its full majesty. We find the perfect balance of high intensity dancefloor danger and more stripped back rollers throughout the compilation, from the Phibes remix of Wrecked from Vinyl Junkie & Sanxion giving us a gritty, synth lead smackdown to the much more junglist inspired recreation of Java's 'Screwface' from Aries. There are a few standouts throughout this eclectic selection, including Epicentre's monstrous sub-driven rework of 'We Up There' from Bill & Ed, alongside Veak's neurotic overhaul of Subcriminal's 'Mack 10' and the system rattling recreation of Flat T's 'Proceedings Closed' from Durban. What a selection this is!

Review: If you're looking for an album packed to the gills with authentic, fractious dancefloor drum & bass and jungle then Cali Jungle 3 from 6Blocc is the one for you. It's a superbly diverse piece of music, that moves from the reggae-infused rolls of 'Ghetto Galactic', to the stepping junglist vibes of 'Street Sweeper', to the funky touches of 'House of Music'. It's a massive 37 tracks, and so there is plenty for you to bite your teeth into. Lovely.

Review: Given that he named himself after a popular brand of tinned pastry products, it would be fair to say that Fray Bentos likes pie. Disappointingly there's a distinctive lack of pie puns within the track titles of his latest EP, though the edits themselves are top notch. "Sum Ting About Ya" is an expertly rearranged and lightly bulked up slab of disco-soul, while "What It Takes" is a thrillingly delay-laden, tooled-up revision of a sing-along disco classic that makes the most of the original's synth bass-propelled instrumentation. For the EP's final two tracks he joins forces with Dusty Sanchez, first for the bustling disco-house stomp of "Hit It Off" and then the filter-smothered warmth of "Strengthen It Out", a deliciously dreamy affair blessed with superb piano solos.

Review: The tragic passing of DJ Rashad adds a heaviness to this release on Southern Belle, which finds the footwork trailblazer on searing form on a short and bittersweet four tracker. The title track is stark in its rapid fire arrangement of drums, while the vocal commands drill out a precise set of mantras. Rashad's regular cohort DJ Spinn chips in on "Come On Girl" which gets even more frenetic in its calls, while DJ Manny weighs in with the pair for the more melodically rounded "Do It Again" with its musical female hooks and a lighter touch on the beats. Gant-Man brings some Chaka Khan firepower to "Somethin 'Bout The Things You Do" that will surely set many a footwork dance alight with crowd-pleasing finesse.
