Review: Cisco Ferreira aka The Advent delivers his first electro album in 17 years - and what better platform than Cultivated Electronics. The artwork for Life Cycles echoes the Advent's timeless Elements of Life debut album from 1995, and the music is also similar on the breaking electro-techno of "Music Is Life" and the hyper-speed breaker, "Electrical Sounds". Elsewhere, Ferreira takes us on a trip through classic Detroit sounds on "This Is Not" and on "Vast", he delivers a more abrasive, grainy take. Shifting focus once again, "L.U." and "Stasis V2" are high-paced ghetto bangers. It's a remarkably fresh and rounded affair from one of the great artists of the electro genre.

Review: What was perhaps most thrilling about the early work of Off Key Hat pairing Leon Mayes and Darren Morris was its strange, oddball nature. Since leaving the now defunct Dissident imprint a few years back, they've progressively moved further towards a brand of oddball synth-pop that references Italo, electrofunk and acid just as much as early 80s new wave and alternative pop. Dangerous Machine, their debut album, completes that journey. With regular vocalist Michelle Manetti in fine voice, it features 10 powerful, leftfield synth-pop moments that veer from the wobbly and wonky ("Night Of The Off Key Hat") and sweet and funky ("Super Sound Single", "Emergency Calling") to the downright dirty (the Goldfrapp-ish "Lairy Lil' Junkie").

Review: As Miami Winter Music Conference spins around for another year so does Toolroom's affiliated compilation showcasing why Mark Night's label remains at the precipice of mainstream club music. Bringing with it two full length DJ mixes and exclusive tracks from crew like Alex Kenji, Jerome Robins and Camila Jun, there's also banging numbers from legends like Green Velvet, Nicole Moudaber and Shadow Child next to Low Steppa and Tony Romera! Review: The 2024 Ibiza season may seem like it's still a long way off, but not for Get Physical - and seminal label has put together a soundtrack for this year's White Island parties. As its title suggests, Computer Madness' "Traveling To The Planet Rock" is influenced by old school electro - and includes vocodered vocals, a funk bass and wild stabs unravel over rolling 808s. Corbi's "Wave Machine" is also inspired by electro, but on this occasion, acid lines ebb and flow seductively over the undulating groove . OMRI opts for a different approach on "This Is A Test". Based on a low-slung, throbbing bass, its dubby sound effects are nothing short of hypnotic. Trutopia's "Peace" is more sedate, with glacial synths and soulful vocals merged with minimal drums.

Review: The march of Time Is Now continues to run rampant, with a new release dropping every time we turn our heads towards the store's new arrivals. This time around we see the nostalgic flavours of Nicky Soft Touch unveiled across four vibrant pulsers, kicking off with the delicious drum processing and spatial pad textures of 'Seven Smoking Areas', a blissful breeze through futuristic drum designs, followed by the windy backdrops and murky synthesiser designs of 'We Absolutely Love This Music'. The delicate delights continue to unveil themselves as the project progresses, with 'Lost In A Sea Of Rolling Eyes' being the next box of treats being served up, laced with masterful percussive processing and booming bass pulses, with the interlude of 'Lonely City' then closing us out with some smokey hip hop drifts. Lovely!
