Review: Resident Dutch powerhouse Fokuz are back at it this week with the next piece of work from Sub:liminal, who has teamed up with previous label album HumaNature and Resurgence to craft something pretty special. The title track takes the cake, with a gorgeously soulful vocal that floats above a bed of gentle instrumentation, but it's the bassline that steals the show; a twisting, winding expression of low frequency force, and a lesson in how to craft something subtle yet heavy. There's more wispy ambience on 'Glass Fields' and 'With You', whilst Resurgence nails 'Stranger Tides' to finish off the EP in style.

Review: It's always a pleasure to hear new, exciting music unveiled over at the Garage Shared camp, who this time pull something different out of the bag, exploring garage from around the world. This scrumptious selection sees them collect garage bangers from 9 different countries of origin, with the likes of Bowser, DJ Blaize, Kiefer Ian, and more all supplying heavyweight 2-step rollers. Indialman's groovy chord experiments in 'Arrival' are a perfect example of this project's natural versatility, alongside the epic string sampling and reverby organs of 'Ododdnt' and DJ Djegor's clean cut singalong in 'All I Need'. Hitch93 takes a highlight spot with his super groovy 'Hologram' original, alongside Keiju's glitchy drives in 'Blue Boy' and of course DubbalifE's quirky floor filler entitled 'Can't Help'. Review: The Garage Shared team have landed again, this time delivering a spicy second edition of their extremely popular 'Around The World In UKG' series, exploring garage from across the globe. We open up with the jittering piano runs of 'Wind' from Mar'One, which sets the tone nicely, before the bulbous moogy basslines of 'Leep Stick' from Unknown David leap into view. From here, the gnarly LFO sweeps and unpredictable rhythmic chops of Pligfig's 'Wake Up' arrive in style, followed by both the stuttering acidic basslines of 'Nostalgia' from Tripleset and Lincoln Baio's nostalgic masterclass in 'Fallin', which utilizes a fabulous vocal sampling to conjure up images of a yesteryear. Review: Over the last two or three years, New York's Minimal Wave outpost has focussed on releasing plenty of new music that fits in line with their unashamedly 'cold-wave' approach, and this has opened them to a whole variety of listeners and DJs. However, in our opinion, where they truly shine is in providing the underground masses with compilations such as this latest The Bedroom Tapes: A Compilation Of Minimal Wave From Around The World 1980-1991, a glorious snapshot of all the very best slices of lo-fi that has largely gone unnoticed to the modern eye. Of course, the majority of these tunes are now expensive in their original formats, but we're taking about a small crew of Discogs sharks who are upping the prices. Here, you're able to properly - and peacefully - enjoy some of the very best minimal machine-drum soul from peeps like Karen Marks, Vorgruppe, Perfect Mother and Aural Indifference, among others. This truly is a feast for the modern digger. Excellent.

Review: More than most techno producers, Mike Storm is attuned to working in the album format, and his series of releases for Axis is testament to this expertise. Storm's latest long player, issued on Ben Sims' Symbolism imprint, picks up where the body of work for Axis left off; it includes atmospheric pieces such as "Into The New Light" and tribal workouts like "Biological Activity" and "1977 Days" that would sound at home on Jeff Mills' Something in the Sky imprint. Storm also showcases his harder edge here, and the spiky, metallic drums of "No Human World" and the dense, hammering rhythm on "Exo 1606" provide reminders of why techno luminaries like Sims and Mills hold him in such high regard.

Review: Next up on Flash Recordings is an impressive collection of label owner Florian Mendl's work. While it is called minimal, this does not tell the whole story: "Desert Times", remixed here and featuring Ricardo Phillips' ponderous tones, is a spacious, dubbed out affair, while Stephan Bodzin's version of "The Beginning" is a dreamy but still effective slice of trancey techno. There are more stripped back tracks included, such as the rickety drums and repetitive samples of "Desire" and the metallic rhythms of "Natural Juice", but this compilation contains enough individualism and diversity - audible on the throbbing bass of "The Theorem" and the jacking "The Journey" to ensure it never veers into one-dimensional minimalism.

Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from each new album in Joey Negro's "Remixed With Love" series, namely fantastic new revisions of classic disco, boogie, soul, electro and jazz-funk classics created using the original multi-track tapes. This third volume naturally contains a few inspired revisions of well-known cuts - a riotous take on The Fatback Band's "Do The Bus Stop", an astonishing, dubbed-out version of the Temptations' "Law of the Land" and a soaring, life-affirming rearrangement of Patrice Rushen's "Never Give You Up" included - but also some suitably smart tweaks of lesser-known gems. These include a sublime revision of the APX's '80s gem "Loose Yourself To The Groove" and an insatiable take on Mass Production's "Shante" full of jammed-out electric piano solos and rubbery electric bass.

Review: One of the most successfully prolific bootleg dealers on the nu-funk scene, Actual Sounds celebrate half a decade of dancefloor hell raising with this epic 40-track compendium that showcases their most talented artists and most bolshy of booties. If you've not had the pleasure of making the label's acquaintance yet, now is most certainly the time. From slamming up-tempo rip-ups such as Actual Phantom's insane "Fat Eric" to slinkier, sleazier jams such as Funk In A Can's killer electro blend of Luniz "I Got 5 On It" Actual Sounds understand all members of the dancefloor from moody rudeboy to a laser-loving raver. Expect some other '80s action movie motifs, to newer school dub variations, and some grimier, funk and soul action. As usual with Dubxanne's music there's a great deal of downbeat drums, heavy splashes of reverb and delay, a killer vocal mix to that pop classic "Roxanne".

Review: Tronic unleashes its annual compilation, which as always contains the label's favourite tracks. "Luv Can Turn Around", a deep techy track from the late, great Pascal FEOS is a reminder of the many loved ones lost in the past year, while label owner Christian Smith's rolling rhythm and surging chords on "Hallucinate" signals a time in the near future when we'll be able to return to the dance floor. At the other end of the sonic spectrum Harry Romero delivers a bruising, jacking version of DJ Rush & Eric Sneo's "Take Me Back", while Sinisa Tamamovic's "Lost Memories" is a more intense iteration of that style, a steely, bleep-heavy techno track.

Review: Clocking in at over 60 tracks, Orbit is a look back at some of the standout releases on Tronic over the past year. The compilation covers a massive range of styles and moves from Eric Sneo and DJ Rush's ghetto techno collaboration, "Take Me Back", and the pounding tribal rhythms of Gaston Zani and Filterheadz' "Perspective" into more tranced out territories thanks to the emotive builds of "Tesla" from veteran German producer Oliver Lieb. There are plenty of other twists and turns here: label owner Christian Smith's long-standing studio partner Jon Selway delivers an excellent, rumbling electro take on Nematic's "Pecular", while Drunken Kong drops a throbbing tech-house groove in the form of "The Line".

Review: Greek producer Alex Dimou follows his recent EP on Get Physical with this compilation of some of his tracks. "Turn Around" is a real 'lost it' moment, its glitchy percussion and slurred vocal recreating long, hazy nights on the dance floor. However, Dimou is clearly a producer of diverse tastes; "Efukt" is much more esoteric, featuring dreamy chords and lithe breakbeats, while "So True" featuring Lee Burton follows a similar, breakbeat path, albeit one that is lined with acidic segues and hypnotic bongos. Dimou's selection even makes nods to pop music with the psychedelic downtempo of "White Rabbit", before finishing with the contemplative piano house of "Oceanmoon".

Review: Almost wish Tonbe would make a bad record, just so I didn't feel like such a gushing fanboi, but it hasn't happened yet! The Serbian don's latest 15-track outing finds him, as the title suggests, firmly in house mode, with all 15 cuts aimed fair and square at the dancefloor, but still manages to encompass enough variety to ensure things never get dull. 'Bright Days', for instance, is a very musical affair that evidences jazz-funk influences and sports a preacherman vocal, while 'Drive Me Around' is percussion-driven and comes topped with a late 80s-style rap. But it's the deep 'n' dreamy, piano-sprinkled grooves and sultry diva vox of 'You Gotta Dance' that lead the charge for this reviewer.

Review: Going by the volume of tracks on show, it would be fair to say that Masterworks Music's "Bag of Tricks" is not a little handbag, but more like a Mary Poppins style bottomless carpetbag. The label's latest rummage through its seemingly endless contents has been a successful one, with the 20 showcased cuts including a wealth of fine fusions of disco, house, boogie, electro and 80s soul. It's uniformly dancefloor-focused, with highlights including the Afro-house/disco-tech fusion of JB Dizzy, the driving, spaced-out disco-house grooves of Mike Woods, the loose-limbed, off-the-wall edits of Chewy Rubs, the sweet disco-soul bounce of RocknRolla Soundsystem, the delay-laden synth sing-along styles of Rayko and the hot-to-trot brilliance of Downunder Disco.

Review: The Late Night Tales crew are certified specialists when it comes to compilations and the label have quite the catalogue behind them, featuring mixes by the likes of Bonobo, Belle & Sebastian and even Fatboy Slim. This time the compiling credits are anonymous, meaning that the label have taken it up to themselves to compile this After Dark Nocturne release. The tracks are unmixed, as is usually the case, so you can pick and mix as many as you like, or simply go for the whole lot! There's plenty of gold in here and the compilation spans quite a diverse set of music from the shady house of Tornado Wallace to the Italian pop of Adriano Celentano on "L'unica Chance". There's also some more minimal numbers by the likes of Alex Metric, gnarly electro beats by Hotel Motel and plenty more. Dive in, it's a guaranteed party bomb.

Review: Quite a number of techno fans will go weak at the knees when they spot this expansive collaboration between longtime friends and occasional studio partners Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock. It's their first combined release since 2013. Every one of the 7 tracks are full of high quality, atmospheric, late night techno workouts, from the creepy riffs and off-kilter drums of "Phantom Studies", and the horror-influenced post-dubstep shuffle of "The Room", to the raging, mind-altering dancefloor heaviness of "Bay Boy" and sparse, minimalist techno closer "The Tenant". Given their abilities as producers, we'd expect nothing less than superbly produced, club-ready cuts. Predictably, Phantom Studies delivers that in spades.

Review: House DJs MYNC offer an exhaustive overview of the tracks that rocked the long-running White Island venue this summer. In the soulful corner, there's the Maxi Soundsystem take on Boris Dlugosch's "Look Around You". Featuring Roisin Murphy on vocals, it does a lot to sweep away the rainy autumn blues. Ten Walls deliver the trancey goods in the shape of "Gotham", which revolves around a belching bassline, but the most notable aspect of Ibiza 2013 is the way minimal producers have come into the house fold. Loco Dice borrows a prog house bassline for 'Detox' and Luciano's "Rise Of The Angel" - remixed here by Andrea Oliva - is a piano-led, wide eyed deep anthem.

Their mission statement: electronic sounds without limits, borders and musical styles! Athens based Medras is back with a full length album here. Soft and Tough is deeply entrenched in the downtempo genre, but when you listen to it in its entirety, you realise he is influenced by a great variety of music styles. From trip hop and chillout electronica, to rock, soul, dub and house. From the bittersweet trip hop of "Believe In Me", the hazy/dubby soul funk of "Dubwise" to the ethereal blunted beat journey of "Around The World" and the sultry deep house groove of "As My House", there's a wide variety of mood and grooves to keep you enthralled throughout its entirety.

Concerning themselves with the deeper side of D&B, unlike many labels who take "soulful" to automatically include liquid, much of this release features tracks focused on the heady early days of drum & bass to fantastically smooth effect. Most, if not all the tracks included are from new, upcoming artists from around the globe and this is reflected in the diversity and energy of the compilation as a whole. Check Disept & Zendi - "Around The World" for early days vintage vibes, Introspection - "HumaNature" for deep, rolling beauty and Remote - "Stars" for some truly old school sounds. Essential listening for those who prefer beauty in their bass.

Review: Homework. What's left to say about Daft Punk's monumental 1997 debut album that hasn't already been said? It's an LP that everybody loves even if some think it's their best work and others think it was only a hint of the really good stuff to follow. Well Mato has something more to say on the matter, going so far as to rework the whole shebang in a dub reggae style. It's a brave move, but guess what? It totally works, particularly on the spacey "Revolution 909" and the honey vocal-led "Around The World".

Review: It's not often a true legend delivers the goods long into their career but MC Fats is still delivering the goods as this LP proves. Filled with collaborations and remixes from the MC Fats Collective and beyond and pushing his unique sound to the next level. Huge names like Calibre, Basher, Total Science, SIN, Lynx and Dom & Roland move in to attack their own slices of the action, taking what could simply be an outstanding LP to cult status and beyond. It's no surprise that a man of his experience could wrangle in some of the biggest names in D&B for his album - what is surprising though is that none of the input is an afterthought. Each contributor has given their best and it shows.

Review: Dub devotees Echo Beach provide Dubxanne with a second release following 2008's self-titled debut. This time around Rob Smith, aka RSD, applies his own edit to each of the 20 tracks on Police In Dub - which really means: Sting and Police in dub. Expect some other '80s action movie motifs, to newer school dub variations, and some grimier, funk and soul action. As usual with Dubxanne's music there's a great deal of downbeat drums, heavy splashes of reverb and delay, a killer vocal mix to that pop classic "Roxanne".

Review: Phil Weeks is without a doubt one the busiest people in the business, with a relentless release schedule on Robsoul that manages consistency, unleashing grooves of the funkiest, bumpiest and loopy variety, week in week out. It's time for another volume of Robsoul's Most Wanted, Vol 6 to be exact and it's an all-star affair as per usual! Highlights for us this time around weren't limited to: label mainstay Around 7 with the funky lo-slung groove that's fittingly titled "Word Of Low", Romanian wunderkind and rising star Guy From Downstairs with the thumping yet emotive soul jam "The Mesteacan", The Bosconi affiliated Minimono on the disco loops of "Buddy Now Buddy" and man of the moment Tommy Vicari Jnr with more quality as displayed on the simply uplifting "Pasci".

Review: Gavin Sutherland aka Fudge Fingas is back under a new alias for Edinburgh based house oddballs Firecracker. A long known staple of the Scottish imprint, they themselves seem equally as perplexed as we are- but we can all agree that it's certainly not altogether unpleasant. Boss man Lindsay Todd describes it as 'occupying the space between alien-revisited exotica, classic jacking house workouts and a BoC 'Chromakey Dreamcoat' kinda vibe'. From the swirling and hypnotic esoterica of "Descent Into Nasqueron" to the brooding journey into the abyss that is "Chapel Perilous Closed". Then comes the EP's most accessible track "Late Feeling Yourself", a smoky, sexed-up, late-night deep house jam that calls to mind his usual work or that by label staple Linkwood.

Review: Brandon Coleman clearly revels in the background. Being a talented songwriter and arranger, along with killing it on the keyboard and organ, he has been at the back-end of groups like The Next Step and The Western Transient, pushing the boundaries of funk and broken beat to their very limits. He's back with his second solo LP this time, coming through on Flying Lotus' mighty Brainfeeder, and everything about this release feels utterly on-point - yessah! Taking a couple of notes and steers from the Daft Punk dynasty, along with the USA's lust for funk, Coleman's vocoder voice runs like silk across many of these playful and innovative boogie tunes, hitting us with some Cali vibes - and sunrays - from the moment "live For Today" melts into the waves of "All Around The World" and, eventually, into the longing, utterly seductive flow of "Sexy" and "Thereas No Turning Back". What is most impressive is Coleman's single-minded vision, coming through with an album that has one single sound and vision running through it. Excellent stuff.

Review: Since first emerging at the tail end of 2008, production duo Drop Out Orchestra have proved a reliable source of party-centric disco material. Like many others who originally emerged from the re-edit scene, they've built a career on blending samples, grooves and hooks from original disco and electrofunk records with their own beats and instrumentation. The resultant tracks - edits but not edits, if you will - are rarely less than high quality, as this sprawling collection of their best tracks to date proves. There are 15 dubbed-out disco groovers to enjoy here, including the massive "International Track" and "Man On The Run".

Review: Versuz Essentials returns with another exhaustive compilation celebrating this year's Amsterdam Dance Event, undoubtedly one of the biggest events on the electronic music calendar. The compilation takes in all genres of club music; moving from the disco strings and trumpets of The House Moguls' "U Can't Hide" and Nopopstar's "Swinging Disco", to the more minimal house styles of DJ Shifter's "The Club" and Gregor Es's "Slideland", while Duher's remix of Parfenov and Anton Balkov's "Day By Bay" provides a bonafide piano anthem. Electro house is well catered for, with Elektrokid, Dave Lambert and Timofey's "Acid Around The World", Emmanuel Kosh's "Skizzo" and Aronauer's "Pins Up" and OB's "Mania" providing some huge basslines which will no doubt get dancefloors moving.

Review: Yes, we can hardly believe it ourselves, but it's that time of year again - mulled wine, chestnuts roasting on open fires and all that. Now, we all may roll our eyes when we hear the inescapable refrains of Christmas tunes every year, but here's the thing: we all need them in our lives (imagine Christmas without them, it's simply not cricket!), but how many of us actually own them? Well, with 111 classics (from Bing Crosby to Elvis, Liberace and Alvin & The Chipmunks) packed on this album, it's safe to say you'll never have to worry about your festive soundtrack again (leaving us all more time to concentrate on the mulled wine and pies, hoorah!).

Review: In Sam Mullany's music, things that initially sound like drones become, under closer inspection, become more delicate melodies spinning out into trails of delay and collaged with triangles of noise. Music made out of tiny elements, but impeccably arranged. This one will appeal to any fans of the label's 18th release: Chemiefaserwerk, Mats Gustafsson's Piano Mating or Benjamin Finger's Amorosa Sensitiva. Might we also recommend it to fans of Tim Hecker or Alessandro Cortini. At times moody and mysterious, uplifting, even life affirming at other intervals. The Washington, VA based producer has a truly captivating style and one to watch!
