Review: Having already delivered some attention-grabbing techy UKF bombs on Deadplate and Rebirth, Bristol's Ryan Bronfield now finds himself on esteemed imprint Some Think Sounds. In keeping with the label's style, "The Way It Do" is housier: deep and sensual without being boring, and full of quirky, off kilter percussive elements and effects. "We Trapped" is deeper and weirder: sounding like the wheels could fall off this disco bus at anytime, and all the more fun because of it. Damu also remixes the title track in a dark techno fashion that wouldn't be out of place in a vintage DJ Hell set.
Review: Veteran Greek producer Alien Disco Sugar (aka DJ Leonidas) may live in London now but his muse is still somewhere deep in the Mediterranean. He rustles up more bootleg/edit action for dancing feet. First up is the raucous lady boogie of "Body To Body", next comes the elasticated and pumped up filtered funk of "Got 2 B Enough" and finally "Love The Way You Do It" leaves us with nearly seven minutes of wild hiNRG passion. Sensual and smooth these edits will cause mayhem on more discerning dancefloors.
Review: Once again we find ourselves exploring the GS Dubs catalogue, being the more stripped back cousin label to Garage Shared, who have continuously impressed over 2022 with a fire run of projects and single drops. This time around Howden is inside to display his skill sets with 'Could Be Real' arriving firstly with a smooth summer feel, focussing on bluesy chords and vibrant crunchy drum processing, next to the huge big room bass bulges of 'The Way You Do It', utilising a very catchy vocal line to deliver a sizzling stick of dancefloor dynamite. Finally, the shimmering chord progressions and vibrant harmonic layerings of 'Wait A Little' gives us one final flash in the pan, exploring skippy textures to round off this lively EP in style!
Review: 10 months after his last outing for Hot Digits, self-proclaimed "visionary remixer" Frank Virgilio returns to Fingerman's label with an EP packed to the rafters with floor-friendly fare. The Neopolitan producer is renowned for blurring the lines between remixes, re-edits and original productions, so it's little surprise to find that much of the music here treads a similar path. Check, for example, "Marco's Groove", a head-nodding, toe-tapping slo-mo loop jam that combines samples from an old Claudja Barry jam with heavy new drums and fuzzy electronic bass. Elsewhere, "It's Really True" is a bumping chunk of dub disco/deep house fusion, "Let's Go (The Rethink)" is a bouncy disco-house treat and "Special 79" a pleasingly low-slung chunk of warming deep house rich in boogie bass and sparkling electrofunk synths.
