Review: In the fast moving modern world of dance music, its all too easy to forget some of those golden gems.. Which is why Renaissance digging back into the crates is such a good thing. Steve Lawlers remix of The Skeleton Key 'The Conjure' was an anthem back in the day and still sounds massive now. A twisted and eerie vibe with that nagging lead line which wont leave your head and the attitude and darkness of a warehouse rave, which will seriously shake things up when you drop now. Steve Dinsdale deep house mix is also included and sounds pretty damn fresh too.
Review: It's time for somewhat of an explosive apperance on this one as we see the highly anticipated return of Roadman Joel who again gets busy alongside his compadres at Tumble Audio for one of the biggest and baddest bass music selections on road. As ever with a Tumble compilation, the genre range is exceptional, from Sergic's breaksy brilliance on 'The Prince' to the super cold speed garage episode in 'Jawnz' and the grimey, tech infused drum slices of 'No Bootlegs' from Timbah. This a fantastic project from start to finish, with our two main highlights being Leda Stray's super funky pulser in 'Ashtray', Rame's lively vocal appearance of Ali McK & IYZ's 'An Again', and the acidic expressions of Arctic's 'A Little Bit More Reese'.
Review: French producer Naibu delivers another set of lovely tracks on Horizons, teaming up with Ena and Key across the 8-track selection here. Expect the usual breathtaking melodies, beautiful instrumentals and attention to detail that you usually get with a Naibu release. Getting things started is "Autumn Comes" with its sweeping atmospherics, hazy instrumentals and warm waves of bass. Elsewhere make sure you check out the deep and moody "Play With Fire" with its breathy, whispering vocal courtesy of Key. The beautifully somber and melancholy "Wrong", later in the EP, is also a stand out moment with its chiming keys and mournful wailing atmospherics. Lovely stuff here from Naibu.
Review: Our ears continue to be dazzled by Slovenian disco type Ichisan who makes an appearance on the ever great Under The Shade imprint after two great EPs on Solardisco and Airtight last year. "Magnetic Field" is a fine slice of soaring cosmic delight with a gentle chugging bass line propelling the floor friendly groove. Ichisan opts for a more electro boogie feel on "Rear Window," a slap bass odyssey with some exceptional synth stab action. Two masterful remixes round off a typically fine Under The Shade release. The Off Key Hat gets tweaked out on acid on their take of "Magnetic Field" whereas DFA dude Walter Jones goes for the deep chug with glorious dubbed out synths.
Review: With trance pretty much in vogue as it's ever been, who more do you trust to deliver this classic sound than Armin Van Buuren 'the master' himself. The best of 2019 compilation sees epic tales in trance come from Artic Moon with a refined strand of progressive beats and vocals in "Cool In My Disaster", with a similar vibe also heard on Jameson Tuller's "Black & White". Roman Messer turns in an uplifting number via "Dreaming" - the title suggesting enough - while Above & Beyond deliver the goods with the epic "Show Me Your Love". Ferry Corsten too makes an appearance with the star-gazing and emotional distorted "Surga", with AvB's marching cut "Turn It Up" a classic for peak time DJs everywhere.
Review: We were super excited to see Laurelle make an exciting return to Ultra Bass, especially when we learned it was to be an official remix project for 'All Eyes On You', pushing together some impressive modernised garage vibes. The first remix comes courtesy of Soulecta, who brings some serious UKG heat from the off, converting the drop into a old school moogy lead driven madness. On the flip side, Major Key also gets to work, working shuffling rhythms alongside Laurelle's stunning vocal performance. Wonderful stuff here!
Review: Last year's Pink Collection, the first in Eskimo's Colour Series of compilations, delivered a sumptuous blend of baggy Balearica, synth-heavy nu-disco, electronic deep house and wide-eyed indie-dance. Here, the long-running Belgian label repeats the formula, serving up 12 new and recent cuts from a wide-range of artists. Highlights come thick and fast, from the touchy-feely goodness of Freeform Five's Roisin Murphy hook-up "Levinthian" and the atmospheric nu-disco-goes-acid of Volta Cab's subdued "Smoke Some Kill", to the guitar-laden Balearic house of Peak Oak and company's "Nova", and Elke Kleijn's sensual, string-laden deep house epic "A Tale of Two Lovers".
Review: Test Press flexing, all-round deep soul man Basic Forces recruits a bench-press rollcall for his debut album. Featuring the likes of Philth, Soul Deep bosser Scott Allen, Marcus Tee, Monument Banks, the iconic vocalist Frank H Carter and many more, it's an all-star collabo fest where the focus is squared firmly on the groove. From the cosmic depths and velvet pads of "Evermore" to the gospel jazz vocal harmonies of "Mind, Body & Soul" and the elephantine sub-struck roller "Don't Want To Hurt You", not only is there some real magic weaved into each collaboration but slick consistency, too. A sublime snapshot of where Basic Forces, Soul Deep and all artists involved in this compendium are at right now.
Review: If you like your D&B soft, sweet and fairly minimal then French talent Naibu should fulfill your needs. Coming at us with another couple of cuts on Horizons, first up we have "Apparitions (with Hydro)", cue a sparse soundscape punctuated by terse, tough beats, an eerie horn and a sprinkling of SFX which come in and out of focus. A cooing vocal element adds further mystery. Accompanying this is a top notch Break remix of "Into The Distance" which sees Naibu teaming up with Key and Ena. This one's a beauty - juxtaposing vocal-driven sections with Break's trademark drums and tough, rough edge.

Review: How many long-running compilation series are still going in this day and age? Ok, well respected ones then. Sean Brosnan's Future Disco series has always delivered the goods and can always be used as a benchmark for where the nu-disco world is at any one time. This time, it's (perhaps unsurprisingly) all about the vintage house vibes so not so disco then, but still a thrilling listen. Highlights include the slinky DJ T-esque "You're The One", the ever-brilliant DJ Koze's remix of hot newcomers Mount Kimble and the deeply enchanting Axel Boman remix of "Naughty".

Review: Phwoar! Whether you've experienced this crew's massive arena-filling Exodus parties or not, this 32-track release is a fitting finale to yet another monstrous year for Chuckie and friends. A sizzling sonic snapshot of the Dirty Dutch family their most extended, we're treated to cuts from across the board - from the rampant tech-electro of Marco V's "Solid Sounds" to the groovier, squelchier vibes of Sebastian Leger's rub of Format B. Review: The latest volume in Running Back's celebratory Mastermix series pays tribute to Hamburg's legendary Front club, which did much to popularize American house music (amongst other things) in Germany the late '80s and early '90s. The expansive set contains an epic DJ mix in two parts from original resident DJs Klaus Stockhausen and Boris Dlugosch, plus no less than 37 vintage cuts that made Front's dancers move. It's pretty much all solid-gold fare, with killer proto-house and first wave house jams being joined by obscure early UK electro (Syncobeat), Balearic deep house (Fila Brazillia's often-overlooked "Mermaids"), sleazy Italo-disco (Answering Machine), New Wave-era Euro dance, Paradise Garage-era New York anthems (Temper, Hot Streak), punk-funk (Modern Romance) and breezy, loved-up synth-pop (the brilliant Dub of Blue Moderne's "Through The Night").
Review: The Nu Breed series was conceived back in the early 00s as a means of showcasing upcoming DJs of that era, such as Danny Howells and Lee Burridge. Now that the series has re-launched, the same concept applies and the latest DJ to feature is German spinner Oliver Schories. With a focus on deep, emotional house music, he weaves an intoxicating path that moves from the slurred vocals of Rico Puestel's "Volute" and the melancholic piano keys of Black Light Smoke's "Fire in My Head" into driving, techy tracks like Jamie Trench's "It Never Stops" and Oliver Deutschmann's hypnotic minimalism, "Control", before climaxing with Chateau Flight's sprawling remake of AtJazz's "It's Complete". Here's to the next generation of new breed DJs.
Review: Danny Tenaglia is a stone cold legend, but his profile has waned significantly over recent years. Given that it's 25 years since the release of his first production, this first contribution to the Balance series - is well timed. Pleasingly, it seems Tengalia still "has it it". Throughout the collection, the veteran NYC DJ maintains a fearsome energy level, mixing things up via a track list that spans chunky tech-house, darkroom tribal, heavily percussive fare (see Michel Cleis' dub of Basement Jaxx's "Mermaid of Salinas") and intelligent techno revivalism (Dax J's brilliant "Dreamscape" and Ho's "Deletion 3"). It is, of course, an impeccable selection, as you'd expect from a man with Tengalia's undoubted pedigree.

Review: Ibiza institution Cafe Mambo needs little introduction. Starting as a sunset hangout, it soon became a perfect venue for the island's pre-parties and has developed an iconic status worldwide. Review: According to the law of weather, it's not officially summer until Joey Negro releases his annual compendium of sun-kissed funk, soul, house and electronica. Ergo, all rubbish weather you've experienced so far this season is down to this not coming out until mid August! Better late than never eh? And with cuts as beautiful and deep as Agora's flute-flicking "Montayo", Masters At Work's broken beat analysis of The Blackbyrds "Mysterious Vibe" and Supernova's Nalin & Kane style remix of Jakatta's "American Dream" the rain and grey skies have been worth it. 24 cuts, all unmixed for your DJ pleasure, squeeze as much out of this season and jump on this now.
Review: Mark Knight's label brings together some of the sounds that were showcased over the course of the ADE. Basement Jaxx kick start the compilation with the stomping disco house of "Never Say Never", while Harry Romero shows that he's not just a US house head. Working with Doorly, he drops "The Truth", a tough techno track, led by heavy claps. The techno influence lingers on Maceo Plex's "Conjure Superstar", which features an unusual combination of rave sirens and sublime, 808 State-style synths. As is the case in the wider electronic world, this reinvention of the past is in abundance on Amsterdam 2014 and apart from Plex's track, the most impressive contribution is Dosem's "Chase the Link", which sounds like a particularly dark version of vintage Lil Louis.
Review: As long serving standard bearers for the drum and bass scene in the Netherlands, the Fokuz label have always carried that touch of quality that sets them apart. On Fokuz & Friends Vol 1 they dig into the archives and draw for an overtly liquid influenced selection with the likes of Eveson, Random Movement and Basic Operations all making contributions. The standouts here are from Icicle & Switch who offer up the surprisingly soulful "These Golden Days" from 2007 and Lenzman & Submorphics' terrific "Respiration", a reminder of the true sound of musical D&B.
Review: Listening to Miami 2014 it sounds like this year's WMC will be dominated by interpretations of classic US house. Prok & Fitch's "South Keys (original club mix)" is a storming tribal affair, while the key changes and heavy low end on My Digital Enemy's "Change" is reminiscent of New Jersey garage. Garage of a UK variety is audible on the rolling snares and rubbery bassline of Hot Since 82 's "Hot's Groove", but in the main, this compilation is US-dominated. Piemont's "Microsleep (original mix)" recalls the darkest excesses of Armand Van Helden house, replete with scary sirens, while the Kevin Knapp take on Richy Ahmed's "The Drums" is a clap-heavy Chicago jam.
Review: Bedrock mainstay Vassiloudis dives deep into the Miami vibe with a selection of vibes that represent the best side of the mega music conference. Not the obvious 'hands in the air' peaktime anthems but the more mature, discerning backbeat of the event. Spanning from more chilled poolside party pieces to more full-bodied slabs of euphoria, highlights include Guy J's spellbinding "Twenty 11", the ocean-like synth washes of O'Donovan's rush-tastic "Crimson Flare", and the warm chords and tribal rhythm of Eagles & Butterflies "Pharoah". Not the most obvious Miami tracks, but that's exactly the point of this lush, well selected exercise.
