Review: Melbourne is becoming quite the breeding ground for burgeoning disco-house talent these days isn't it? We've had Tornado Wallace and Fantastic Man, and now The Tortoise (aka Torquhil Anderson) steps up to the plate with a debut release on the excellent 3rd Strike imprint. The three original tracks on offer are filter-heavy jams that flit effortlessly between disco loops and deep house atmospherics. Meanwhile Berlin's resident South Korean disco head, Hunee, adds his inimitable touch to "Next Time Around", adding some raw house bump to the original. Review: This latest helping of futuristic goodness from the Top Drawer Digital team sees them dive into their third full length compilation drop, once again expanding the 'Abstractions' series with a solid helping of new school breakbeat flavour. Featuring 36 creations, this selection is a DJ's secret weapon for certain, with the likes of Kefford, Sub Fusion, Outrage, Sanxion, S.U.R.E and Nyxen alongside many more delivering top quality additions to the track listing. For us, this is a project best absorbed through the attached continuous DJ MIX, but our standouts would have to include the brain-boggling wave synth work of The Rumblist's 'Mind Blown', alongside the more throwback metallic dinks of Lucas's 'Light & High Beauty' original. Sensational stuff from all involved.

Review: Deep in the Jungle continue their onwards march with this, the seventh edition in their widely acclaimed Anthems series, a compilation that always finds the ideal mix of current and future talent to showcase. In the case of the former, well-travelled producers Epicentre and Kumarachi roll things out and tear them down on 'Light Em Up', which features a gnarly array of interlinked bass nodes and torn low frequency sonics, al underpinned by a percussion section that's the perfect blend of rusty and sharp. New talent emerges in the form of Trobe and Mirage, who have their first label release with '89', although you wouldn't have guessed it based off this tune's razor clean percussive edge and expert use of space, a hard thing to get right and one this pair blow out the water here. Rave samples, expansive basslines and a synth arrangement you won't be able to shake - unmissable. 34 tracks later and Deep in the Jungle have nailed every single one of them - big ups.

Review: With 30 tracks to choose, there's no faulting the value for money on offer with this latest Salsoul collection, but a note of caution should perhaps be sounded: if you've only just discovered Salsoul and are doing some exploring, then this isn't the best collection to start with, because most of the label's best-loved tunes already featured on Volume 1, back in 2017. That potential commercial weakness is also, however, the album's greatest strength, because it's the more obscure cuts that will be of most interest to long-term fans... and there are plenty of both! With a mixture of ACTUAL original mixes plus a few contemporary rerubs from the likes of Dave Lee and Danny Krivit, this is a worthwhile and rewarding addition to the ever-growing roster of Salsoul comps.

DJ Hybrid digs through the Deep In The Jungle vaults for this crucial collection of jams and vibes for this ultimate VA release that flexes the full range of the label and represents a how exciting drum & bass and jungle are right now. The whole LP is one massive highlight but it's great to reload cuts like [IVY]'s four-to-the-floor bounces on 'Moving', the cut throat amen slaps and chops on Toby Ross and Oram's 'Wide Roach', get swept away in the emotion of Flat T's 'Women's Work' and get KO'd by Lupo and DJ Hybrid's still-crucial 'Soundboy'.
