Review: We are gifted a seriously cool present on this one as the ever dependable Wheel & Deal Records return with another pair of absolute corkers. Right from the off we could tell we were in for a treat on this one as Unicorn FUKR & Use Of Force team up to great effect. This original ticks all the boxes as 'The Farewell Address' reigns down a storm of lethal 808 punches and eerie backing synths from
start to finish, leaving destruction in its wake. We are also given another gem in the remix department as LX One arrives on the scene to mix it up with a more metal inspired recreation, stuffed full of dungeon fueled energy and yet more spooky atmospheric pressure.
Review: Boundary blasting Unicorn Kid dazzled both the dancefloors and the airwaves with a quirky piece of electro pop that was perfectly layered with elements and hooks. Now it's time for the remixes, and we're in for a rich selection. Andi Durrant & Steve More put some heavy emphasis on the pianos while Richard Knott exposes more a trancey edge to proceedings. For those who prefer a little more uptempo beef, head to Insideinfo's Hospitaltastic remix. Woof!
Review: Valerie Martino has been performing and releasing as Unicorn Hard-On since 2003, putting out a slew of cassette and CDr releases across underground labels like Vanishing Records, Triple Rainbow and her own Tangled Hares imprint. Predating much of the current wave of noise-influenced beat constructors her style has much in common with fellow Spectrum Spools artist Container (with whom she shared a split 12-inch in 2011), though Martino's style is somewhat more vivid. The Weird Universe LP is described by Spectrum Spools as her "first full-length" and offers an ideal starting point for the uninitiated, with six tracks of hypnotic rhythms, rippling synth textures and searing analogue noise with a surprisingly melodic sensibility.
