Review: Time to pay homage to some of the greatest junglists in the biz for a lovely little detour into each of their mindsets. "Fall In Love" itself is a beauty of a track - with Eva Lazarus referencing Althia and Donna and the horns blowing pure heat there's a true dancehall vibe sizzling. First up to give it the remix treatment are Dope Ammo and Marvellous Cain who add their fun and fire twist with a hard edged drop switched into that winding bassline to send crowds wild. Mr Benn picks up the tune for its final remix and adds his own reggae vibes, swapping those dark dancefloor sounds for sunshine and tropical funky bass. Versatility and vibes - what more do you want?

Review: Next up from the Breaks 'N' Pieces crew, we see them invite the fabulous sounds of Skeleton King inside for a sizzling six track display, exploring the bridge between garage and breaks across some very creative sonic design. Review: The world's most famous Irish-Iranian DJ/producer serves up a fourth collection of disco and boogie re-edits on his own Re-Loved label. The album features 19 full-length tracks plus two hour-long mixed versions from Haji himself, and the artist roster reads like a Who's Who of the re-edit scene, featuring as it does names like Dr Packer, Chewy Rubs, Birdee and Chuggin' Edits. What's most pleasing, though, is the non-obvious nature of the tracklist: sure, Ian Ossia's opener 'Someone To Count' borrows from Dennis Edwards but that's about as far as we got with trying to identity source material before shrugging our shoulders and just sitting back to enjoy...

Review: Set up as a continuation of their podcast back in 2008, this Russian label joins the dots between jazz various genres. Footwork House Jam no.1 is a homage to the global house culture and the eponymous Moscow-based club night in particular. The idea behind this compilation 'is to provide the fuel for house dance culture and house movement to expand further on' the label claims. Starting off with Baltimore legend Karizma and his jagged groove therapy session titled "Church Chords" there's more quality with Brit Nubian Mindz with the glitched out disco house of "Check Da Discotheque" which will contort you even more with its nifty beat repeat effects. Then it is Intr0beatz with the sexy late night deep house of "That DUB" where he goes for that timeless formula of emotive chords, swing fuelled rhythms and sampled diva vocals to full effect.. but wait for that bassline to drop, like seriously! Finally, Dopeness Galore darling Jacob Otten aka Kid Sublime drops the soulful and life affirming broken beat nu-jazz experiment "Wings Of Love".

Review: With DJ Spen on the production and veteran US garage vocalist Dawn Tallman providing vocals, "Believe In Love" has excellent credentials. In its original form, it's a soaring, gospel-influenced chunk of soulful house with just the right amount of bubbly, 21st century electronics in the riffs (and, of course, organs a-plenty). Spen himself provides the remixes, providing various decent alternatives including two decidedly electronic (and rather fine) Lektrosoul rubs, a proper, organ-laden bumper (The Spen & Tommy Show Me Dub), and a sublime, drawn-out extended version (co-produced by Gary Hudgins). As ever with Spen, the quality threshold remains high throughout.

Review: Quantize's latest DJ Spen-championed release comes from Sote, a previously unheard duo comprising producers James Padovani and Stuart Braybrooke. In its original form, "Infatuated (I'm In Love)" is a wonderfully breezy and summery chunk of bouncy soulful house/deep house fusion, with Elliot Chapman's impeccable vocal gently rising above a musically expansive but undeniably dancefloor-friendly backing track. DvT and M-Dubb join forces to deliver two tidy remixes: an ear-catching 'Main Vocal' interpretation that wraps winding synth solos and fluid Fender Rhodes parts around a punchier rhythm track and a tasty Dub Instrumental that allows the duo's fine instrumentation a deserved chance to shine. Conrad Liquid also delivers a slightly more stomping, piano-heavy interpretation that sounds like it could suit bigger rooms and darker dancefloors.

Review: When it comes to blending classic disco and bumpin' peak-time house, few can match Joey Negro - a man who has been offering up disco-fied house jams since the early '90s. There are naturally plenty of his own tracks and remixes on "Put Some Disco In The House", an expansive collection of quality disco-house moments, with highlights including the rolling disco-boogie heat of "Put The Music On It (Original Disco Mix)", the chunky, walking bass-propelled "Dancing Into The Stars" (with Horse Meat Disco and Angela Johnson) and a slamming rework of Sessomato's jazz-funk flavoured "Moody". There's plenty of heat to be found elsewhere, too, with standouts including JKriv and Adeline's "Vertigo", Opolopo's boogie-tinged revision of Sylvester classic "I Need You" and the spiraling disco pump of Yam Who and Jaegerossa's "Grateful".

This third volume naturally contains a few inspired revisions of well-known cuts - a riotous take on The Fatback Band's "Do The Bus Stop", an astonishing, dubbed-out version of the Temptations' "Law of the Land" and a soaring, life-affirming rearrangement of Patrice Rushen's "Never Give You Up" included - but also some suitably smart tweaks of lesser-known gems. These include a sublime revision of the APX's '80s gem "Loose Yourself To The Groove" and an insatiable take on Mass Production's "Shante" full of jammed-out electric piano solos and rubbery electric bass.

Review: Influential and prolific, Dave Lee has been one of house music's major proponents of soulful, disco-tinged, vocal tracks. Without question, he was instrumental in its development. Produced With Love is only the second ever Joey Negro album to be released and the first for more than 20 years. It proves that dance music with character still exists and rather than rely on sampling older records, the overwhelming majority of music is newly recorded. Rest assured that there's quite the supporting cast here, on the vocal front: the late great Diane Charlemagne on "Overnight Sensation", Canadian songstress and frequent Nick Holder collaborator Sacha Williamson on "I Recognize" and the legendary Linda Clifford on "Won't Let Go". Fellow London disco dons Horsemeat Disco collaborate on "Dancing Into The Stars" too. The second half of the collection focuses on Lee's impeccable remixes and yes: there is a version of "Must Be The Music" and a track by the inimitable Peven Everett entitled "Love Is Thicker Than Water" alongside several other gems.

Review: With 30 tracks to choose, there's no faulting the value for money on offer with this latest Salsoul collection, but a note of caution should perhaps be sounded: if you've only just discovered Salsoul and are doing some exploring, then this isn't the best collection to start with, because most of the label's best-loved tunes already featured on Volume 1, back in 2017. That potential commercial weakness is also, however, the album's greatest strength, because it's the more obscure cuts that will be of most interest to long-term fans... and there are plenty of both! With a mixture of ACTUAL original mixes plus a few contemporary rerubs from the likes of Dave Lee and Danny Krivit, this is a worthwhile and rewarding addition to the ever-growing roster of Salsoul comps.

Review: We thought it was going to be the case that Four40 kicked up another storm before the year was out, and we have been proven right as we jump into this top notch compilation project, primarily assembled by the UKG legend that is Smokey Bubblin B. We can see this one's quality just by perusing the tracklist, as we see top names such as Mistakay, Kastle, Mind Of A Dragon, Royal Flush and more all make their way onto the project. It in fact covers such a wide range of garage music it is difficult to define simply, from the minimal, skippy designs of Perception's 'You Make', to the more futuristic bass instrumentation and design of Tuff Culture's 'Carbon', with Doctor Nick's inspired remix of 'Mind Slip' by SMOAD being a particular stand out.

Review: Here's a devilishly simple but nevertheless inspired idea from Yam Who's ISM label: a 21st-centrury update of Imagination's legendary 1983 remix album Night Dubbing. While this version is nowhere near as dub-influenced as the original (which, after all, contained contributions from Larry Levan), it does contain some rather sublime new interpretations of Imagination's greatest hits. Highlights include an epic version of "Just An Illusion" from John Morales, an anthem-like version of "Flashback" from Kon, a deliciously atmospheric reinterpretation of "Music & Lights" from Sleazy McQueen and a typically deep, warm and synth-heavy re-shape of "Burning Up" from Soul Clap. Best of all, though, is J Kriv's nu jack swing-influenced remix of "Body Talk", which simply oozes the authentic feel of late '80s electro.

Among the tracks getting the treatment this time around are Prince & The New Power Generation's 'Push', Chris Rea's 'Josephine', The Michael Zager Band's 'Let's All Chant' and Perucho Conde's 'La Cotorra', an evergreen Latin funk nugget from 1980 that was penned as a Venezuelan "answer" to Sugarhill Gang's 'Rapper's Delight'. Some fairly obvious choices there, but the rest of the EP draws on more obscure disco/funk/boogie sources, so dive on in and enjoy!

Review: This excellent collection from Z Records draws together some of boss man Joey Negro's favourite label cuts of 2019, many of which he of course had a hand in either producing or remixing. There are naturally tons of superb multi-track remixes of disco gems old and new (see the versions of the O'Jays, Delia Renee, Tamiko Jones and Double Exposure), as well as fresh revisions of vintage Joey Negro house productions under other aliases (Doug Willis, Z Factor, Foreal People) and a swathe of killer cuts that join the dots between disco and house (Sunkids and Chance, Four80 East and CeCe Peniston, Bobby D'Ambrosia and Michelle Weeks). Throw in tracks and remixes from the likes of Fouk, Crackazat and Lay-Far and you have a superb collection of peak-time-ready workouts.
