Review: It's safe to say that the Juicy Fruit Recordings team have supplied us with an absolute gem here as they arrange a collection of top draw remixes, bringing a new lease of life to 'Year One'. We begin with Brockout's high energy redesign of Bill & Ed's 'Maximum Warp', before Diligent Fingers gets stuck into his groovy rethink of 'Hernando' from S Man. Next up, we take in some stripped back drumsy flavours on Warhead's dramatic overhaul of 'Visions Of The Future' from Kovert Sound, before Erbman finishes off the project in style with his sub heavy recreation of Verdikt's 'Here We Go'.

Review: Bearing the instantly recognisable name of the American hip-hop legends, you'd be bang on the money if you assumed that this release was a Wu Tang-sample laden raft of heavy D&B. It's a simple concept, but one that's executed with nasty precision. 'Wu Tang' is the title track and arguably the best on the release, an instantly recognisable shaolin shadow-boxing sample dropping off into a catchy yet forceful main riff of bouncing bass notes. 'Velocity' is equally as forceful, an intricate tapestry of various percussive elements underpinning an expansive, warming set of low-frequency feelings. 'The Darkness' and 'London' are somehow just as good, particularly the former - what a release this is.

Review: Manchester murkery: Diligent Fingers comes crash landing onto Erbman & Krunk's Juicy Fruit with four of your five a day. Like any good fruit salad, the flavours range across the board from the rich dark flesh of "Toppa Tops" to the sharp funk citrus of the discofied filtered struts of "Wah Gwarn". Elsewhere we're treated to an ace vocal drop and stinky bassline lick on "What We Deal With" while "Break You" closes with beautiful dusty jazz tones like it's 2001 all over again. Gwarn m8.

Review: Liquid Lab essentially do what their name would suggest: they make deep music that touches your soul. It's one of the best small liquid labels out there and it'd definitely be worth your time to check out their stuff, starting with this EP from Diligent Fingers. This release is certainly deep, the title track kicking you off with a lovely combination of funky jazz samples and more melancholic ambience. It's a trend that repeats itself over and over, especially on 'Slow Down', which has a gorgeous depth yet feels rooted right in the moment. 'Still of The Night' is the is all about the jazz vibes and it does this very nicely, stretching piano vocals out over a rolling beat.

Review: Boom! Audio Addict looks back over the vaults and draw for some of Euphonique's many big hitters on the label for this killer remix EP from some serious names and label family members. Guzi steps up first, fixing up our focus on the rave stabs on 'True' while man-of-the-moment Kumo flips 'Siren' into a gnarly dark style slap-about. Elsewhere man like Sl8r adds his unique, loose-limbed funk to 'Gangstar', Conrad Subs gets all jiggy over 'Booyaka' while Epicentre turns in with a flabby grizzler remix. Euphonique herself steps in to conclude this EP with the Amen VIP mix.

Review: Euphonique lands on Audio Addict with a fiery EP. Kicking off with 'True' is crunching halftime drums that skitter away into a drop of rattling percussion that fills up the range in a full-throttled run of high quality energy. 'Siren' carries on the trend of pummelling kick drums and suspenseful ambience, with a sick vocal lead and wicked little drum switch ups. 'Gangster' brings the pulsating low-frequency wobbles at the bottom of the range as skippy, pacey drums lead out over the top - you'll recognise the sample on this one. The ragga vocals on 'Booyaka' smack of that classic Manny sound as a Serum-esque switch-up bumps into stabby bass bounces that scream character. 'Killah' ties things up with a clean drum line and diving bass pulses and yet more sublime wobbly action - a real stinker to finish off the release.

Serial Killaz & Run Tingz Cru - "Bun Babylon" (feat Blackout JA/Tenor Fly - DJ Hybrid remix) - (5:11) 175 BPM
Review: Run Tingz is a uniquely Bristolian outlet that consistently pushes that feel-good yet dirty vibe so endemic to the Bristol D&B scene - arguably the best in the world. This LP combines the reggae-influenced jungle sound with a more edged out sense of darkness, the former of which exemplified by 'My Sound' featuring Deanie Rankin: its recreation of Curtis Mayfield's 'Move On Up' is especially cool. Brian Brainstorm contributes an absolutely fire jungle riddim that just does everything right: bright reggae sampling, hard-hitting breakbeats and diving swirl of wobbling sines and reeces. When you listen through this album you can almost see the bucket-hat donning and wavey shirt wearing Bristolian crowd going nuts - pick it up.

Review: Next up from Diligent Fingers, a feisty dive into a highly anticipated LP project. The full collection will be titled 'The War Within', with this tasty three track preview being dubbed 'The War Sampler'. First up, 'Upset' arrives with a fusion of melancholy chord progressions and smokey drum-lines, setting the tone nicely with some seriously gnarly bass processing as the track progresses. Next, 'Intimidate Me' lets fly a barrage of vicious synth crunches and highly energetic drum lines to match, before the unpredictable rhythmic chops and screeching bass curls of 'Stampede' sees the project to its close.

Review: Not to be confused with the Julia Roberts classic, the Sound of Nuusic isn't a Bavarian epic but instead a UK underground epic of compilation sized proportions, with a whole raft of underground talents offering up a diverse concoction of jungle flavours. With Conrad Subs making several appearances, his stand-out contribution is 'Leave Dem', with a funked-up loping introduction that's seriously smooth but which quickly devolves into a stuttering balance of breaks and reece bass action. There's wicked jungle contributions from Kumarachi and RMS as well as Sheffield upstart Charla Green, whose knock-down breaks carry some serious weight. This is a must-listen for anyone who likes their jungle music.

Review: Juicy Fruit are back with a juicy, fruity number and on this occasion the production credits are going to K-Jah and S Man, both of whom have delivered very different but no less appealing slices of 170 goodness. K-Jah's remix of Wah Gwarn is rolling and vibrant, with a proper old-school feel the drums and some melancholic synths over the top to give it a slick vibe. S Man has taken things in a darker, more penetrative direction with his remix of What We Deal With, which skips along at a serious pace, pulsating and echoing basses fluctuating beneath. Top stuff.

Review: One of the regular labels we feature are Sub-Liminal, a wicked little imprint that puts out a diverse sound ranging from techy rollers to jump-up steppers and even liquidy numbers. This week they've arrived with an EP from Agro, who, across six tracks, spans various tones and styles, all of them rooted in a sense of dancefloor aggressiveness and all of them top-notch. 'Claap Up' is a highlight, its rolling percussive line isn't the paciest but is loping and satisfying, whilst a gargling bass and sweeping reeces sit just above and inject all the force. 'Data Entry' is also a wicked track, with a lovely, stripped back drum line that's full of moody sonics. Top stuff.

Review: So it doesn't feel like we've had much of a summer this year. It also feels like the arts are being hung-up to dry right now. But at least the good folk at Sub-liminal care for us.... From Dunk to Xav, RV to Warhead, Agro, Guzi, Shayper, Damage Report and so many more, this is the 'Summer Selection' we all totally need and deserve right now. Highlights include the Remarc levels of badness on Guzi's 'Area 51', the tension and staggered creepiness of Yatuza's 'Clich?' and the broadsword swathes of Motiv's buzzy bumper 'Necroplasm'. Review: Epicentre isn't an artist we're overly familiar with, but we certainly hope to become so after hearing the quality of this release. 'Deng' features MC Haribo, an increasingly popular MC and someone who sounds sick above a minimal beat which is exactly what 'The Deng' is: growling, groaning basses providing the backdrop for a skipping, satisfying percussive run. 'Surely Dead' is on a junglist tip featuring upbeat, ragga sampling and a wobbling bass on the drop that comes out of nowhere from the previously happy introduction. Both 'Jesus Farda' and 'Max Factor' are back on the minimal thing and both are sick as hell, the latter's pulsating back end taking the cake.

Review: Sub-liminal brings an end to the year that was, going out all guns blazing with on Air Part 2 featuring a bunch of wicked VIPs. Label staple Agro serves up several collaborations on here with the likes of Mentah, Raz, Diligent Fingers and Ghxsty. There's also a few offerings by the ever reliable Yatuza; our pick being the wonky stepper of "Distance" with Master Error. Elsewhere, Pyro pops up a few times throughout and was in fine form on "Smithdown Bass" and Prestige handed in a couple of quality dubs with neurofunk cut "Logical" being our pick of the bunch.

Review: Grid Recordings have a bit of a reputation for spewing out some of the most venomous beats in the business and their talent for pushing some of the best artists on the jump-up spectrum is undeniable. Shadre & Salvage are holding up that standard and they're doing it in style, something clear right from the start of this single. 'Stay Put' reels you in with a lovely introduction, it's synthy beginnings quickly regressing to a siren-like wail of pure energy that's reminiscent of Kings of the Rollers and insanity more generally. The rest of the release is wicked as well, as the flipside 'Ya Dun Know' features the vocals Diligent Fingers over a choppy bassline and funky synth work.

Review: Run Tingz are a Bristol based imprint that seek to project the Bristolian sound all across the U.K. That sound is a hypnotic blend of ragga influences, jungle vibes and rolling, bassy tones of the type that blow up Bristol dancefloors on an almost daily basis. For their Best of 2018 album they've rolled out the big guns for a fat compilation featuring the likes of Bladerunner, Kursiva, Dossa and Brian Brainstorm so you know it's going to be good. 'Sound Killer' by Bladerunner is typical of this; funky, upbeat ragga sampling and sick vocals from Fuchaman with an underpinning of junglist vibes and pulsing basslines. The rest of the album is just as good - go cop it.

Review: Agro is back on Sub-Liminal for a six-track EP that is Sofa Sound-esque in its emphasis on rough, vibrant percussion and rolling, dastardly basses. Every track on here is perfectly crafted for the dancefloor and it's all rooted in that wicked UK D&B sound that we know and love. The title track features Killa P on vocals, his tones wafting above a wobbly and pummelling back end which switches up into jungle for extra damage. 'The Cut' is similar but even heavier, with the obligatory Wu-Tang Clan sample that grounds it in a sense of history and nostalgia. Banging stuff.

Review: Everyone likes a good compilation, right? What's better than having as big a range of artists as possible in one condensed place? It's essentially an album with the ease of listening of a single, so we're all for it. Subliminal have come out with the 2020 edition in their Riddim Return series and it's packed full of bangers, across a range of styles, and it's one of those albums which doesn't try to be cool or sophisticated by chucking in a few fillers for the sake of diversity - it's just hard stuff here. It works great, with Sam Harris' tendency for muscular minimosity coming on loud and clear on Boom Ting, a wickedly devilish and driving roller.

Review: Manchester's Subwoofah is a regional powerhouse for, in their own words, the marriage of school jungle and modern D&B. That's the objective being borne in mind here with Epicentre's remix EP, a release which combines the percussive vibrancy of jungle with the powerful basslines of the current age. The 'Motiv' remix of 'Ear Worm' is a great example and we love the rough edge to its drums almost as much as we dig the attitude-packed bassline. Full of anger, but the good sort. Lovely.

'Regenerate' takes the lead with its rifle-like bass flutters and heads-down pace and energy. It's back by five more full throttle workouts including the mischievous skank of 'Come Again', the rave homage 'Call That Rewind' with Manchester legend Diligent Fingers and the dreamy weaves and bobs of the finale 'More Than Enough'. Cashing in over 20 years as a raver (a good 10+ years of which he's also been a producer) K Jah rattles and slaps his way through timeless jungle dnb work-outs. Highlights include the percussive Skeptical meets Hazard tear-up vibes of 'Ominous', the stripped-back bounce and hoover stabs of the title track 'Ravers Delight', the jazzy feels and sudden operatic flare of 'Aria' and the old school Playaz / Zinc bumps and bounces of 'Different Things'. Review: Young Manchester groove weavers Channell & Zar lay down a seriously soulful sermon on Liquid Lab in the form of "Rare Groove Volume One". Four tracks in total, each one is laced with restraint yet high in vibe. "Breathe" opens with a big dreamy salvo, "Let You Know" is more subdued and heads-down while "Black Eye" is so packed with jazzy flourishes it wouldn't go amiss on Liquid V back in the day. Finally "Just One" rounds off the set with a mood that you could imagine Lenzman getting behind. Featuring feat Lady Soul & Diligent Fingers, there's a far-reaching sense of thoughtfulness and emphatic soul running throughout. Rare.
