Review: Since their inception in the first hayday of dubstep, it's always been an exciting event to see a new drop from the Wheel & Deal gang, with their latest gift coming to us courtesy of the wonderful Surge. We kick off this monstrous five track collection with the incredibly gnarly bass textures and catchy melodic inversions of the title track 'Ebb & Flow', before moving into both the spooky spacial textures of 'Barren' and reesy expansions of 'Shellshock'. We then drift into the nostalgic arrangements of 'Original', reminding us of early Matt-U works, packed with melodic beauty and explosive sub structures. Finally, the highly emotional string patterns and punchy drum processing of 'Holocron' see this one out in style'.

Leech (original mix) - (5:34) 140 BPM Hot
Swaying Mantis - (5:05) 140 BPM
Leech (radio edit) - (3:42) 140 BPM
Review: Surge steps up for a truly excellent release on N-Type's Wheel & Deal. Proper, bonafide dubstep is the aim of the game here, with an ominous, atmospheric intro with gloomy pads and cooing vocal element adding a warm glow to the otherwise bleak outset. A shimmy of synths, bass wobbles and souped up synths kick in and the dreamy, breathy vocal courtesy of Pyxis floats atop. Next up, Surge goes solo in "Swaying Mantis" which is all lurching rhythms, grinding synths, weighty bass flavours and understated menace.

Review: Label boss and dubstep don N Type steps up with partner in crime Surge for the next release on his own label, Wheel & Deal. Bass heads, you're in for a treat, as this EP unfolds we are exposed to such glorious, sonorous offerings as opener "September Sun" with a beautiful, impassioned vocal courtesy of Pyxis. Following this up is synth-soaring "Mega-Tron" with its grizzled, wobbly beats and scintillating melodies, as well as "Triangles" which goes darker and deeper, with dubbed out sounds, ominous movie samples and smashing snares. Finishing up with a "Zombie Apocalypse", this piece marks the end of a top-notch release.

Review: With the previous collaborative benchmark set high from the massive "September Sun" and their remix of Plastician's "Hard Graft", N-Type and Surge compound their premium partnership once again with this massive five-tracker. Every track is total galvanised darkness; from the paranoid pads and disgustingly thick bass/kick drive on "Katnip" to the almost Detroitian arpeggios, mangled grimy rhyme and spiked out acid line of "Clobber" via the dramatic rips and sneers of the EP title track, it's clear Surge and N-Type complement each other incredibly well.

Voices EP
Voices (feat Pyxis) - (5:08) 140 BPM
Ctrl Alt Delete - (5:39) 140 BPM
Painsday - (5:37) 140 BPM Hot
Toys - (5:03) 140 BPM
Review: Fresh from vibing with the likes of Beezy and Hatcha, Surge slides back with a slick solo quartet that runs the gamut from raw club stompers to radio-ready crooners. "Voices" falls in the latter category, a dreamy weeper ghosted by the delicate vocals of Pyxis, it's not far off a Kosheen joint, just a tad on the darker side. Looking for a proper club thumper? Check the dirty beats and bass drama on "Ctrl Alt Delete" and the fittingly titled "Painsday". "Toys" finishes the set with string plucked menace and an industrial strength funk to the half-step stomp. Brutal.
