Review: It has been two years in the making, but the wait is very almost over as on the dawn of releasing his fifth studio album 'Intense', Armin presents the first single to be lifted from it. With an instant "Essential New Tune" on Pete Tongs radio show (no mean feat for a trance artist), if this is anything to go by, his sound is taking a housier direction. With a strong a radio friendly vocal at the forefront, coming from the brilliant Trevor Guthrie who's tone and delivery take this skyward. Where the Original has crossover in mind, the monstrous remix from golden boys W&W certainly doesn't.. its an outright bass heavy assault on the senses, made to destroy all in its path. There's also; Antillas & Dankann, Giuseppe Ottaviani, and some guy called David Guetta providing remixes... You don't need to be told, this is essential!

Review: As befits one of the most daring big name DJs, Seth Troxler's latest offering on his label is hard to pin down. "Blackclap" starts with the kind of warped stuttering percussion that defined mmml - possibly a tongue in cheek nod from Troxler - before moving into an effective, stepping rhythm. "Aggression" sounds inspired by his home town, Detroit; a tone-shifting bass unravels over dense drums as a scrambled radio broadcast plays away in the background. In truly unpredictable form, on the flip side Troxler opens things up to some of his close associates; the Thrill Cosby take on Heartthrob's "Signs" is a morose, noisy stepper, while Troxler himself turns Stefan Tretau's "Chittagong" into a stripped back, bleepy rhythm.

Review: Time for a reload! DJ Hybrid's Deep In The Jungle look back over the last few years of skankings, tear-ups and vibe missions and curate them all in this awesome compilation that stretches the entire jungle drum & bass spectrum. From the classic Bristol style bubbles and bumps of cuts like Conrad Subs' 'It Goes On' to the more traditional junglistic savagery of cuts like Lupo's 'Retrograde', over 30 cuts we're treated to some beautiful 174BPM moments. Other highlights include the emotional 'Must Remember' from Critycal Dub, the powerful and poignant energy of the late great JDizz and the undying rawness of man like Kumarachi. Review: The march of Time Is Now continues to run rampant, with a new release dropping every time we turn our heads towards the store's new arrivals. This time around we see the nostalgic flavours of Nicky Soft Touch unveiled across four vibrant pulsers, kicking off with the delicious drum processing and spatial pad textures of 'Seven Smoking Areas', a blissful breeze through futuristic drum designs, followed by the windy backdrops and murky synthesiser designs of 'We Absolutely Love This Music'. The delicate delights continue to unveil themselves as the project progresses, with 'Lost In A Sea Of Rolling Eyes' being the next box of treats being served up, laced with masterful percussive processing and booming bass pulses, with the interlude of 'Lonely City' then closing us out with some smokey hip hop drifts. Lovely!

Review: Originally released over two 12" singles earlier in the year, Lovebox 001 sees Manchester-based label Music Is Love's setting out its formula for future success. That means delivering warm, endorphin-boosting deep house cuts, garage-influenced tracks and deliciously summery dancefloor tracks from a range of new or little-known artists. Pleasingly, there's plenty of high quality material to enjoy, from the lucid deep garage revivalism of Maxwell's "Need U", and bouncing grooves of New Jack City's "I Believe" (complete with heavy New Jersey organs, of course), to the '89 hip-house funk of Jamie Trench's "Juicy" and Gwen Guthrie-sampling goodness of Mikki Funk's "Deeper Love".

Review: Something a little bit different from London deep house/nu-disco specialists Wolf Music here. Portuguese producer Pedro teams up with Washington DC based vocalist Jenna Camille. Featuring influences from jazz though to soul, R'n'B and broken beat: as heard on the sexy late night mood lighting of "Float" which you can imagine hearing in the basement of a smoky jazz club, the super sultry "Keep It H 2000" or the funky beat beneath the smooth groove of "Future Dance" (It'll Be Ok). It might be from Porto by way of the American capital, but this really nails that UK kind of vibe in the vein of Kaidi Tatham, Mark De Clive Lowe or Atjazz.

Review: It's not often that a popular album returns in lightly tweaked and re-edited form, but that's exactly what's on offer here. The original 2019 version of Kapote's debut album, 'What It Is', was a genuine gem, but this 'lightly reworked' new edition is, we believe, even better. For proof, checked the hushed, TB-303 sporting jazz-funk-goes-loop-house flavours of 'Jaas Func Haus'' the carnival-ready, electric-piano sporting dancefloor sunshine of 'Brasiliko', the bouncy and loose-limbed excellence of 'Salvation' (whose rubbery bassline is an addictive delight), the organic 21st century jazz-funk-goes-electrofunk headiness of 'Fusion 79' and the wonderfully warming organic house delight that is 'LOVE'.

Review: Spanish re-edit hero Rayko had a productive 2011, releasing some of the best cut-ups and disco reworks of the year. Here he begins 2011 in similar fashion, delivering four more tried and tested slabs of dancefloor funk. Opener "My Lady" does a terrific job at re-modelling a Prince-era, slap-bass heavy 80s jam, removing all but snatches of the vocal in favour of more instrumental groovery. "After The After" continues on a similar theme, going deeper into slow dance territory, while "Turn Me On Again" builds brilliantly over six delightfully sensual minutes. "This Is It", meanwhile, adds some head-nodding house flavours to a simmering 80s soul jam. Solid.

It features legendary vocalist Nona Hendryx, an original member of the trio Labelle who's smash single "Lady Marmalade" is a timeless classic. "Shine (This Is It)" features the strength in Hendryx's vocal, which empowers spirits, moving you on the dancefloor. Review: There's no stopping Midlands bass duo Hybrid Theory right now, what with their Four40 label putting out its first artist compilation and yet another big club anthem in the shape of "That's What It Is". What it is, is a scalpel-sharp trap-hop jam with heavy bass and undertones of grime courtesy of some spitfire MCing by Trilla. There's also some different edits and an instrumental included, with the "Heavy Radio Edit" which is anxiously sparse and riddled with the shrill delivery of Lady Leshurr.

Review: The Bomb Strikes label project have really solidified their position throughout 2018 as one of the leading forces across the breakbeat expanse, consistently supplying their fans with high profile fire. Their latest release alongside Bryx is a perfect example of that as we kick off with the super groovy tearout electronic riffs of the title track 'This Is It'. From here, the project strips back a tad as the more smoothened grinding bass leads and unpredictable beat scratches of 'Up In The Place' take the lead, followed by the dubstep inspired bass jolts and drum punches of 'Heads Up' alongside Audiowrx which finishes the project up.
