Another Love
Eddie C - "Cut, Chop, Roll, Skate" - (6:28) 109 BPM
Scott M - "Get Up" - (8:41) 120 BPM Hot
VinylAddicted/SMQ - "Another Love" - (6:35) 119 BPM
Pontchartrain - "Get Over You" - (7:26) 116 BPM
Review: Sleazy McQueen's Whiskey Disco imprint continues to be one of the more reliable sources of disco and boogie re-edits. Rather predictably, this latest installment in the series is bristling with high-grade dancefloor material. There's some riotous, party-minded disco-funk from newcomer Scott M, who delivers a killer touch-up of Vernon Burnch's "Get Up", and a thrillingly low-slung chunk of rolling disco-house from VinylAddicted and SMQ. While Pontcharain also provides a tightened-up, filter-heavy tweak of France Joli's Prelude classic "Gonna Get Over You" - heavy on the delay, and with the urgent hustle of house - it's the contribution from Canadian stalwart Eddie C that stands out. A smooth, midtempo cut-up of a lesser-known rollerboogie jam, it rises and falls in all the right places.

Brothers On The Slide EP
Pontchartrain - "La Magie" - (7:33) 119 BPM Hot
Pontchartrain - "Hey Mariposa" - (6:37) 120 BPM
Thatmanmonkz - "Luh Me On Mi Celly" - (6:54) 107 BPM
Thatmanmonkz - "Radiation Steppa" - (5:52) 118 BPM
Review: It may have taken a few months, but Whiskey Disco's latest split EP - a fine affair featuring two reworks apiece from Ponchartrain and Sheffield-based East Midlander Thatmanmonkz - has finally made it to digital download. Pontchartrain steps up first, first offering up the breezy, tropical-sounding disco stomp of "La Magie" - all punchy horns, classic disco bass, fizzing synth lines and glassy-eyed female vocals - before brilliantly reworking an obscure disco/jazz-funk instrumental (the suitably spacey "Hey Mariposa"). Arguably even better is "Luh Me On Mi Celly", the low-slung, stretched-out dub disco revision that counts as thatmanmonkz's first contribution to the EP. His second, "Radiation Steppa", is a fizzing, synth-heavy disco-boogie number blessed with passionate male group vocals.

Devils Funk EP
Devils Funk - (7:29) 109 BPM Hot
Monkey See - (6:58) 108 BPM
Creatures Of The Night - (6:30) 106 BPM
Afrikan - (8:09) 114 BPM
Review: The devil has all the best tunes, and it seems that Detroit's Pontchartrain has rustled up a little Faustian pact here just in time for Halloween parties everywhere. On the Devil's Funk EP, we get four naughtily nefarious joints - the tough '70s stomp of the title track, "Monkey See" is a saucy slinker for those blurry later hours, "Afrikan", with its trippy, accelerated, spacey funk rock is the perfect compliment for those whose punch got spiked. Finally "Creatures Of The Night" is a dubby rework of Laura Brannigan's 1984 Italo-disco classic "Self Control" - perfect for dancers who've lost theirs!

Sleazy McQueen & Vagabundo Club Social - "Boh!" - (7:38) 118 BPM Hot
The Rejected - "O Craque De Futbol" - (6:59) 104 BPM
Pontchartrain - "Have A Little Taste" - (7:12) 124 BPM
Review: Whiskey Disco continues with its juicy 2018 with something of a sweaty beast, with a quartet of producers stepping up to deliver some sticky dancefloor heat. Label chief Sleazy McQueen joins forces with Vagabundo Social Club with edit "Boh!", a slamming rework of a Bohannon-esque disco-funk jam rich in hard guitar riffs and crunchy Clavinet lines. The Rejected takes a different approach, serving up a rolling, delay-laden tweak of celebratory, soccer-themed Brazilian club jam "O Craque De Futbol". Sunny, funky and low-slung, it's accompanied by the gently housed-up swamp funk of Pontchartrain's "Have a Little Taste". Given the quality of the EP, we're more than happy to follow that instruction.

The Silver Rider - "Never Stop" - (5:52) 105 BPM
Review: For their latest missive, Sleazy McQueen's Whiskey Disco label has paired two re-edit veterans; Pontrain and The Silver Rider. The former is very much on a 'Paris 97' vibe with "What You Doin To Me" being a joyous French Touch-style jam that weaves some slammin' filtered disco loops together and "Work It Alright", a powerful slice of passionate, housed-up soul. The latter also provides two quality jams: the slick, cocktail-fuelled disco-house of "Muzik", and the low-slung, elastic bass-driven Balearic grooves of "Never Stop".

Played by: KX9000, Pontchartrain
Review: The latest producer to pop up on Razor 'N' Tape's Reserve sub-label is Detroiter Pontchartrain, whose previous outings on Lovedancing, Whiskey Disco, Kolour Ltd and Soul Clap Records were all mighty impressive. There's much to enjoy here, too, as he swaps tooled-up re-edits for colourful original productions. Check first 'I-80', where bubbly and emotive melodies cluster around a tactile house groove and deliciously dreamy chords, before wrapping your ears around closing cut 'Love & Madness', an off-kilter late night number rich in undulating synth-bass, drifting electric piano chords, atmospheric vocal samples and spacey synthesizer flourishes. This comes accompanied by two reworks: a jazzy, sensual and squelchy Demuja Remix that should get deep house heads in a spin, and the producer's own sunrise-ready Friends & Lovers Dub.

Peza - "Set It" - (6:46) 117 BPM
Pontchartrain - "Funk Down" - (6:14) 110 BPM
Review: The nu-disco world loves a good split EP and here's another, this time from the Hot Digits crew. First up is re-edit champion Fingerman, whose "Norman's Disco" is nine minutes of swirling bass twisting retro funk fun. Elsewhere we get more elongated funk joints on Dr Packer's "Feel Like Dancing" and Pontchartrain's "Funk Down", whilst Peza decides to slip Harlequin Four's electro classic "Set It Off" some nasty acid for some bonkers party action.

P-Sol - "Luv 2 Dance" - (5:33) 122 BPM
Mars - "No More" - (6:10) 101 BPM
Review: For as long as any of us can remember, the Editorial label has led the way in multi-artist re-edit EPs. Their latest missive is, unsurprisingly, a bit of a Christmas cracker. Tomas Malo kicks things off with "Welcome Distraction", a filter disco-house revision of Escort's 2006 revivalist disco gem "Starlight", before label regulars Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee drop the ultra-positive, disco-with-bells-on fun of "Your House Tonite". Pontchatrain gets "Nasty" with a chunk of righteous, floor-friendly disco-rock/house fusion, Sunner Soul delivers some horn-totin' disco-funk brilliance, and P-Sol confirms a "Luv 2 Dance" by cutting up a familiar old disco staple. As for Mars, he heads for the end-of-night close dance via sensual R&B vocals, nods to P-funk and some superbly sumptuous synths.

Review: Sleazy McQueen's Whiskey Disco label seems to be on fire at present, with new EPs of white-hot edits appearing on an almost weekly basis. Predictably, there's more high-grade material on this latest split artist four-tracker. Pontchartain kicks things off with a brilliantly dubbed-out take on Gayle Adams classic "Lifesaver" (previously successfully extended and re-touched by FLX One a few years back), before Osmose delivers organ solos, orgasmic groans and rump shaking beats on "Broadway Kiss". Derek Kaye's "Holdin' On", a deliciously celebratory number full of cheery scat vocals and incessant grooves, and "I Got Your Wang", a cheery, sun-kissed chunk of disco perfection from Rulefinns Kravstor.

Review: Detroit's Pontchartrain is back on Whiskey Disco, the label that he most certainly calls home. Here we get new single Date Night, which features three top notch jams, starting with "Lambrusco". Not a cheap, hangover inducing holiday drink, it is in fact a exceptionally edited string-laden disco beauty that cleverly swells from warm and deep beginnings into blissed out joy. Next "Ayeeho", features delayed percussion, electro-disco bass and a compelling fusion of Afro and East Asian melodies. Lastly "Nice N Slow" is ironically a fast 'n' furious retro boogie belter complete with manic clavinet action and divas galore.

Now it's the autumn and they've rustled up some more edits, 15 in fact, again featuring some big names on the nu-disco scene. This new comp will one and all swinging from the rafters from fireworks parties to Christmas knees-ups. Highlights include the Cathy Dennis-sound-alike cowbell jam "You Know How" by RobJamWeb, the swaggering guitar strut of "The Walk" by Silver Rider and Rabo & Snob's quirky, perky hiNRG pumper "Harry Rama".

Review: Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint has always reflected his production style, delivering releases that gleefully blur the boundaries between re-edits, remixes and original material, and blend elements of disco, funk, soul, boogie and deep house. This groovy, warm and floor-friendly formula is much in evidence on this first anniversary compilation. Featuring a blend of previously released gear, exclusives and a bonus DJ mix from Fingerman, Hot Digits: Year One is an effortlessly entertaining collection. There's naturally much to admire, from the subtle house beats and P-funk synths of Fingerman's own "Shine Yo Litez" (a rework of an old Grangers tune), and the disco-funk chunkiness of Groove Motion's "Party Now", to the compressed, dubbed-out disco house madness of Chewy Rubs' "Let It Go".

Review: Fingerman's Hot Digits label has now notched up 50 releases. To celebrate this landmark occasion, the man himself has selected 25 of his favourite cuts from the label's rapidly expanding back catalogue. As a showcase for everything that's good about the imprint, it does a bang up job, gleefully jogging between exotic mid-tempo disco and disco-funk (Frank Virgilio, Dr Packer, The funk District), slo-mo disco-acid (Fingerman's tremendous rework of B-Jam's "Sundog"), kaleidoscopic, reworked '80s boogie business (Casual Connection, Melon Bomb, the hard-tweaked filters and heady loop business of Chewy Rubs), tried-and-tested party-starters (Smashed Atoms, Get Down Edits remixing Stephen Richards) and giddy peak-time workouts (Shit Hot Soundsystem, Dave Gerrard, Thomas Maslo, Kiu D). As the old saying goes, this is all killer, no filler.

Predictably, this third volume in the ongoing series is packed to the rafters with tasty musical treats. Label bosses Kraak & Smaak lead the way with 'Fitipaldi', a Clavinet-sporting slab of Italo-disco influenced cheeriness that's available in both original mix and extended version variations. You also get two takes on Drop Out Orchestra's kaleidoscopic, string-laden disco-boogie rework of Steven Kimber's 'I Wanna Be The One'. Elsewhere, rising star Pontchartrain dances his way through nu-disco-influenced piano-house territory on 'Cheap Plants', King Mutapa reaches for warming Rhodes keys and jazzy disco bass on the deep house influenced 'Gimme That Funk' and FUTVRST offers up a filter-heavy exploration of French Touch influenced mid-tempo disco-house.

Review: For the latest volume in Planet E's long-running Detroit Love compilation, label boss Carl Craig has handed over to DJ Holographic (real name Ariel Corley), a rising star of the Motor City scene. It's a hugely entertaining collection told, with Corley doing her best to showcase artists on the up - from both Detroit and elsewhere - as well as established stars of the underground. Musically, it's as diverse and mixed-up as you'd expect, kicking off with revivalist Afrobeat (Underground System), slick deep house (Pontchartrain with Javontte) and revivalist '80s soul (Shri Schwartz), before taking in everything from broken house and nu-disco, to sci-fi techno, sleazy warehouse jams, sleazy acid, percussion-rich Latin house and much more besides.
