Review: The Anjunabeats trio finally give the trance world what they have been waiting for, one of the (many) gems from their 'Volume 10' compilation this latest single is of course inspired by the Breaking Bad lead character, with the conceptual soundscape aiming to reflect the volatile mood of the man himself. Shuffly prog beats provide the fuel, with a killer electro bass-line and hi-tech flashes and fills fighting in the mix keeping the energy levels high and the excitement building. The atmospheric break then climaxes with a big stabby hands-in-the-air synth which sounds like an instant classic.. This is A&B at their very best!
Review: Having changed tack with last year's folksy Acoustic set, progressive trance veterans Above & Beyond return to their trademark style on We Are All What We Need. Since first gate crashing the scene back in 2000, the Anjunabeats founders have become flag-bearers for the more melodious, musically expansive side of trance. There's plenty of that here, of course, from the spine-tingling beauty of "Blue Sky Action" and sparkling "Counting Down The Days", to the gorgeous builds of "Hello". Pleasingly, the album is also peppered with superb downtempo tracks, with yearning vocals smothered in sinewy strings and twinkling pianos.
