Review: What a wonderful thing it is to see the return of Manuka before the year is out, with this latest catalogue edition seeing the wonderful Ellis Delta join forces with Celebrity Bitcrush for four tracks of futuristic wizardry. We open up with the shimmering arpeggiators and hardcore drum designs of 'Ten Percent', a magnificent combination of new and old school breaks flavour, with 'GetGot' giving us a much more abstract follow up, focussing on dizzying delays and atmospheric pressure. We then up the pace once again as 'Push The Speaker' unleashes some super skippy drum triplets and a constantly shifting backdrop of synthetic chugs, with the acidic carnage of 'Bleep Blop Breaky' giving us a truly unpredictable closer, jam-packed with high energy drum switches from start to finish.

Review: The Super Spicy label has been on fire this year. So far, the imprint has released no less than 12 singles and EPs - most top-quality - and we're barely midway through April. Their 13th release of 2021 comes courtesy of debutant Caspar Ellis, who has duly delivered two all-action workouts that sit somewhere between beefed-up re-edits and loop-powered disco-house stompers. Opener 'Out The Door' laces select snippets of spoken word vocals (lifted from a classic disco record) and ear-catching sax motifs atop a bouncy and chunky disco-house groove rich in layered percussion, smooth bass and jammed-out electric piano riffs. 'Preacher & His Wisdom' is, if anything, even better, as Ellis turns a flash-fried disco-funk number into a stomping, celebratory peak-time house workout.

Featuring the gorgeous vocals of Elli and that absolutely epic bassline, the original verison of "All You Got" is bound to be a hit. "Place In Mind" and "Mountains Of Dewa" get on the darker and more progressive tip that fans of Life & Death will appreciate. Review: If you're looking for futuristic high-speed tribalism then Burnt Friedman's Nonplace imprint is the perfect place to start...and end! Over the last few years, the German maestro has almost single-handedly created a new subgenre, one that blends glitchy techno together with ritualistic drumming and very, very low frequencies - a winning combinations, basically! "Clock" is all broken drum steps surrounded by mild pads and slick vocals; there's a reprise mix, too, which scraps the beats and focusses on vocals and FX. Then there's a different version of "Clock", this time wonkier and more deranged in its melodic approach, and "Lovestruck Battlefield"...another stripped back piece of futuristic bass poetry. Killer.

Review: It's a brave producer - particularly one with such a long career behind him - who calls an album Cease To Matter. But then Burnt Friedman, active since the mid 1990s, isn't your average electronic musician. Happily, the album in question, his first with occasional collaborator Daniel Dodd Ellis, is one of his strongest in recent years. For the most part, it impressively fuses Dodd Ellis's Moodymann-ish spoken word vocals - some inspired by Aldous Huxley's LSD-inspired book Brave New World - to Friedman's unconventional, IDM-influenced dub rhythms and baked downtempo textures. The results are predictably spacious and otherworldly, with sublime piano motifs winding their way around dub basslines, sparse electronics and atmospheric vocals.

Review: Burnt Friedman comes through with another slice of delicious Nonplace goodness! Friedman's music is singular to say the least, where dub techno is broken up and re-soldered into a nutty, Afrobeat-tech pastiche. If that sounds crazy, then you're probably right because "Skies Okay Blue", for example, is simply indescribable. Glitchy, hazy beats, echoing melodies and a super-funky bassline are at the helm. "Cycles" is also rather insane thanks to its shuffling percussion and oddball synths, while "Silberne Libelle", although mystical and no less odd than its counterparts, is the tamest of the lot. Another winner from Mr Friedman!

The minimal end of the house spectrum is also well-served; there's the woozy break downs and builds of Martin Ikin's driving "Oscill8" and Essel's deconstructed rhythm on "Lennon". Amsterdam 2023 also serves up some irresistible, old-school selections. Pirate Copy's "Love Will Save the Day" is an intense, hardcore-sampling house track. Review: Singapore label Integrity delves deep into their extensive archives to celebrate half a decade in the business. There is no denying that the curation of the label has Detroit themed 'hi-tech soul' strictly in mind, and that's not at all a bad thing. Elsewhere, there is no shortage of veteran producers holding up the label's good reputation: Switzerland's Dachshund gets ultra deep on "Must Say", Karim Sahraoui (Transmat) will cast a spell on you with his mesmerising epic "Jazzaj" and Belgium's Fabrice Lig is in impressive form as always on the powerful peak time stomp of "Gazoline".

Review: Somewhat surprisingly, there's not much information to be found online about this near two-hour, 26-track collection from compilation specialists Electro Babes. What we can tell you is that it's an eclectic, boundary-blurring affair that explores the more downtempo and Balearic end of the musical spectrum before giddily charging towards the dancefloor as the set progresses. Within that wide remit, there's plenty to enjoy, from the deep, downtempo jazz of 'Gullivers' by Yan Gillis, the slow-motion trip-hop/dub-pop of Elli Uda's 'To Find Yourself' and the bleep-goes-new beat-pop flex of Gerald Peklar's 'Find a Way (US Mix)', to the trance-inducing Euro-techno stomp of Membran 66's 'Rounding Off' and the buzzing, Hardfloor-esque, acidic heaviness of 'But I Return' by Nils Pot.
