Review: Three hiphop-inspired cuts from Sound Exhibitions regular Ltg Long Travel Groove. The lazy, downtempo 'ADay Life' tops walking double bass with trumpet parps, tinkling pianos, scratches and a cut-up spoken male vocal about doctor someone returning with an off-beat ditty, the more upbeat 'Back To Old' chops up a disco guitar line and snippets of near-falsetto soulful male vox, throws in more scratches and then tops the lot with a spoken "in this house, everybody's moving to the same beat" vocal, while finally 'Mobil Car' gets seriously low-slung and sleazy, and takes the gold for this writer as a result.

Review: Don't be put off by the title if, like this reviewer, you're not a big fan of Afrobeat, high-life and so on, because there are no frantic polyrhythms or chanted/panted vox here. Instead, Sound Exhibitions regulars Ltg Long Travel Groove and Funk O'Ya serve up three cuts from the more melancholy and downtempo side of the street, with 'Freeze Beat' topping complex, cascading hand percussion with mournful jazz sax and 'Deep In Stereo' a languid drum groove augmented by strings and treated vox. 'Right Way' flips the script a little, being slightly more upbeat and closer to a straight-up disco funker, and completes an EP that's well worth investigating.

Review: Prolific nouveau funkers LTG Long Travel Groove serve up six more retro funk and hip-hop nuggets. 'Radio Funk' sounds like a dubbed-out Chic, while 'Total Funk (ReVision)' channels James Brown with the addition of an 'Another One Bites The Dust'-ish bassline and scratching sounds. 'Move It Man' takes us into laidback rap territory, 'Minimal Zone' has a cut-up, west coast lo-fi vibe and a looping "I was at home getting blunted" vocal sample, and 'James Beat' is a more abstract excursion with an off-kilter, jazzy feel, before the langorous and sultry 'Easy Grasp' plays us out on a sexier/sleazier note.

Review: Whilst the iron is particularly hot, this Afro-Italo fusion act are striking again with Lets Go. This is their third release and their confidence has grown in strides. The title track features smooth bassy vibes with some funky licks and extra percussion for good measure. Elsewhere "SoulFrisco" takes some tight disco loops and makes them work, the clubbier "Houxin" incorporates many quirky samples including a fairly subtle Coldplay one, "Godess" takes scratching back to 60s Jamaica, "Flamer" is trippy acid house and finally "FonkNess" ends with big 80s drums and meandering guitar licks. A mixed bag of fun.

Review: Three tracks here that lean towards the 'nu' (rather than the 'new old') side of the contemporary funk and disco spectrum. 'Original 73' is a low-slung 'n' sleazy bass-led groove with an early 80s LA feel, augmented as it progresses by electro stabs and snatches of female rap vocal. 'Double Hands' rides a powerful but slow-moving breakbeat with the "stop the beat, drop the beat" line from Ultramagnetic MCs' 'Chorus Line' (also sampled by Acen, The Prodigy, Cutty Ranks and many more) and a cheeky, Steinski-like "go ahead' snip, while finally 'Street Song' is a more organic and more authentically 70s-sounding jam.

Review: Sound Exhibitions was founded in 2010 as a club for lovers of alternative music, and after collaborations with various international artists, they decided to create a label out of their base in Sardinia, Italy. A wide range of musical genres have been showcased on the imprint: from house to electro, through to downtempo, jazz, and even salsa. This unique vision has given a coherent story of great success. Their next offering comes courtesy of the Mysterious Long Travel Groove (LTG) who gives us the lo-slung boogie-down groove of "Traveler" and some slo-mo soul funk swagger on the wicked "Travelogue".

Review: The mysterious Ltg Long Travel Groove return to his/her/their regular home of Sound Exhibitions with a six-track follow-up to August's 'Episode#1' EP. 'Lost My Funk' and 'Mucho Mas' plough a straight-up 70s-style funk furrow, while the other four cuts add a little variety, with 'Old Dirty Groove' sitting right on the funk/soul cusp, 'In The Bit' veering into funk-hop territory and 'Saturday Jazz' and 'BossaMe (Afro Dub Rework)' both fairly self-explanatory. It's all impeccably executed, but for this writer 'Saturday Jazz' nudges ahead of a very fine pack. All self-respecting contemporary funkateers should be checking for this one!

Review: A fine set of contemporary funk grooves here from LTG Long Travel Groove, brought to you by Italian label Sound Exhibtions. 'Saturday Jazz' lives up to its title, centring around live-sounding double bass, but also sets the tone for an EP that's long on hip-hop influences, with scratch sounds and rap vocal snips much in evidence. 'Flavour J' is a more low-slung affair with a breathy female vocal, 'Family Affair' is a jaunty yet unhurried jam with some great jazzual six-string action, while finally 'Ultimate Break' is another hip-hop leaning number that uses so many cut-ups it's almost like a battle set in single-track form. Nice.
