Review: T>I on Souped Up... It was only a matter of time before this alignment of gully stars occurred, and of course it's 100 percent stankage. "Dye Migration" is a juggernaut driving up behind you with full beams and 1000 horns blaring up your keister before he launches into a couplet of caustic collabs; "Swington" with Serum is a low riding, knuckle scuffing groaner while "Blue Lagoon", with Current Value, takes us down lovers lane for a breezy roll out that's loaded with equal levels of grit and emotion. Finally "Bullnose" sees T>I wrapping up the EP solo with nothing but a bucket load of pure filth and bleeps. Absolute gold... But would you expect anything less of the Drum&BassArena Award winning label?

Review: Oh gosh! Current Value hits us hard with his 11th studio album 'Puer'. Released on Serum's Souped Up, it's a no-holds-barred exploration of the jumpier side to his far-reaching range. Big basslines, wily funk, zero-effs-given rave music, it's the German producer at his most playful. Highlights such as the sizzling harmonics of "Contemplate", the deep drones and savage kicks of "Chariot", the rising grainy riff and KO fills of "Pitting" and the reunion with man-of-the-moment Bou on "Running Your Mouth" are just some of the tracks that will melt your skin right down to your bones. And if that's not enough, he's about to drop album 12 on Methlab too. No one's doing it like Current Value.

Review: Current Value on Serum's Souped Up... Even as recently as a year ago this would have seemed like an odd partnership but right now it feels just right. CV brings dynamics and textures like few others can but much more importantly he understands the funk and groove and when to hold back, too. As a result each of these four tracks is an absolute keeper; "City Syndrome" sparkles with strange spatial textures before flipping into a guttural grainy riff, "Of Truth" hits with a classic old school emotional synth intro before flipping into a growling metallic bassline. "Relinquish" takes us to much darker pastures with a grizzly rolling bassline with "Sluv" ends with foundation tones so rich and evocative but an energy and aesthetic so futuristic and crisp, it's like being in a rave in 1990 but dancing in trainers made in 2090.

Review: C4C Recordings are celebrating 20 years soon and this album is their celebration: a mammoth 40 tunes of hard-hitting neuro goodness to warm your bones and rattle your face holes. The list of producers present on this album is pretty exhaustive and, perhaps some high-profile exceptions aside, every single neurofunk producer you could want is here. Dub Elements land on their feet with the exceptional 'Beasts Abode', a slightly less frantic but equally venomous tune compared with lots of other offerings. Other highlights come from ChaseR, Current Value and Agressor Bunx and the whole album is special - go check it.

Review: It's remix o'clock at Dutty Audio Towers as label bossman passes on the parts to a wide range of scene talents: Klute takes the lead with an iced out twist on "Be Yourself" as he manipulates the vocal loop in a different direction. Current Value follows with yet more of his seemingly unstoppable tech science as a wasp nest bassline rattles in 23rd century style. Newcomers Hanzo & Randie bring up the rear with a heads-down neuro take on "Infection" where full emphasis is placed on the sci-fi bass textures. Finally Gydra gets all mechanical and pneumatic on "Inception", giving the original's iconic riff a Blackout style jump-up sense of turbo-charged energy. Feel the burns.

Review: All roads lead to Rampage; one of Europe's biggest bass tickets this season, this year they're celebrating their massive rave with an album featuring some of the best names on the line-up. Once again all bass bases are covered on this second sampler; Maduk adds a little pace to Flux Pavilion's euphoric vocal uplifter "Pull The Trigger", Current Value gets unruly with his heads-down fast lane shock-out "Cyclic" while Upgrade dons his black belt and chops our souls, legs and appendages in half with his grotty choppy stabs. Game over mate.

Review: Rotterdam's own Prospect Recordings enjoys a huge following and an even bigger roster of mashed-up, dark and filthy artists, and this family album looks to capitalise on some of this artistic wealth. Why not? If you had a back catalogue full of some of the most insane drum & bass on offer to the wider world, wouldn't you want to share it? Littered with breakcore, neuro, gabber and hardcore, it's a whipround through the neck-breakingly heavy side of drum & bass that many fear to tread. Track names like "Skullsplitter", "Total Confusion" and "Death Will Set Us Free" have rarely been so truthfully descriptive, and even label darlings Counterstrike and Bong Ra team up for "Possessed", a feeding frenzy of metal, breakcore and drum & bass. A horror movie for your ears. Nobody's lives were ever enriched by staying inside the chillout room.

Review: Few producers enjoy the exalted position that Current Value does. And since he's moved back from his hectic crossbreed creations to more traditional tech drum & bass sounds, you can really hear the detail in every element. Xtrah is a man of similar frequency obsession, making this Cyberfunk release a really natural and honest project. Highlights include the cymbal-splashing twist on the triplet arrangement ("Escape") and the insane blocky snare funk on the total sci-fi freak out "Matchfit". With all other tech territories explored in between, one could easily argue this to be Cyberfunk's best release so far.

Review: Critical's Binary series gets cracking for a fresh new outlook in 2015. Opening the year with Berlin's Current Value, this is four tracks of techno-infused sonic assaults that have been making an impact in every club brave enough to venture this far into the depths of inky-dark drum and bass over the past few months. "Division" in particular has been hitting the scene hard with its relentless percussion and stressed pads. Often 'experimental' is used as a cop-out description, but in this case it's true, and Current Value has been experimenting with just how tweaked he's willing to go.

Review: Noisia's label for experimental, low freq sounds pushes its recruitment drive with this, a staggeringly good four-parter featuring some of the most sought-after names in dark and heavy beats. Kicking off with Lockjaw's methodically heavy "Obsidian", the producer takes his production into brooding territory while remaining technically astute. (Check his Tumblr too, man's a decent production blogger). Subtention's "Midnight Flush" ticks and shuffles its way through footwork-inspired beats, playing nastily with minimal, deadly bass. "Cotton Punch" comes next from the ever challenging Current Value and this is no exception - get ready to be pushed - while Berlin-based newcomer Survey offers up deep, minimal subs and rolling percussion for the perfect bleak, underground vibe. Top release.
