Review: What a fantastic time it is when we can see such a vibrant collection of artists come together within a forward thinking D&B space, exploring crunching synth belches and sub-heavy drum work firstly on 'Horrid', which sees D*Minds, Jakes & Run In The Jungle combine forces for a system-melting introduction. On the flipside to this sampler, we then see Run In The Jungle and D*Minds link up with T>I on 'Giraffe Neck', a much more dancefloor inspired sizzler, focussing on gritty synthesizer designs and pulsating reese basses to match, all tied together with sharp drum work that is sure to send the sternest of ravers into an absolute frenzy.

Review: D*Minds and T>I's Run In The Jungle project continues to pick up momentum as they hurtle towards their debut album with sampler number two. 'Insane' sets the pace and tone with king MC Carasel getting crisp and stern with the bars over a hard-hitting but subtle groove. 'Kill Sound' meanwhile takes things right back to the dancefloor with an abrasive, infectious jump-up style riff that bites just as hard as it barks. Keep on running!

Review: Gear them now! D*Minds return to Souped Up with more fruity ruffage. 'Charlie's Sheen' takes the spicy Hollywood actor to gully new levels with a stern Hazard-esque barking bassline and a sense of tension running throughout while 'Riddem' goes full-on barrel business with an expertly rattling snare and ballistic style bass scuds flying all over the place. Classic D*Minds carnage.

Review: Run lynchpins and all-round Bristol dons Distorted Minds get us all grinning like Mr Happy once again with this ultimate titanium stamper. As the title suggests, it shreds through silly little subgenres with a cutlass bassline that will fit in any darker set. Weighted with grainy textures and eerie samples, it's as ageless as it as future and will slay any corner of the dance. Let's hope they don't leave it so long next time.

Review: Labels, artists and websites all tend to adopt a retrospective tone as the end of a year gets ever closer, so it's naturally quite timely for V Recordings head honcho Bryan Gee to crank out a third volume of his excellent Retrospect series. With it comes a wealth of old jungle riddims, influential classics and long forgotten favourites from the likes of DJ Die, Roni Size, Ray Keith, Krust, Lemon D and more. Gee opens in style with the Brizzle roller "Fashion" by the legendary Roni Size and maintains the pressure throughout, dropping gems such as DJ Die's "Something Special", Krust's iconic stepper "Check Dis Out" and the jazzy, liquid loveliness of Lemon D's "Get On Down" with its shimmying, sunshine filled vibes. For a trip down memory lane, this one's essential.

Review: We thought it was going to be the case that Four40 kicked up another storm before the year was out, and we have been proven right as we jump into this top notch compilation project, primarily assembled by the UKG legend that is Smokey Bubblin B. We can see this one's quality just by perusing the tracklist, as we see top names such as Mistakay, Kastle, Mind Of A Dragon, Royal Flush and more all make their way onto the project. It in fact covers such a wide range of garage music it is difficult to define simply, from the minimal, skippy designs of Perception's 'You Make', to the more futuristic bass instrumentation and design of Tuff Culture's 'Carbon', with Doctor Nick's inspired remix of 'Mind Slip' by SMOAD being a particular stand out.

Volume 10 features such highlights as: Hidden Depths A1" (original mix) by UK tech house legend Clive Henry with Blind Minded, Argentinian Nico Kamienski with the emotive hi-tech soul of "Here" (original mix), Parisian Yassine (Distel Records) with the hypnotic afterhours minimalism of "Entrevue" (feat 01,Nonam) and Russian producer Darkphobia with the brooding menace that is "Toxic" which calls to mind the current vibe of top labels Senso Sounds or SCI + TEC.

Review: It seems as if there is no stopping the fire that LW Recordings have lit as they put together yet another heavyweight compilation, this time featuring 25 absolute stormers from some of the waviest faces in the scene. Stylistically, the LP ranges quite drastically from neurotic breakbeat rhythms and hardstyle bassline to more chilled out UKG themes and unusual 2 steppy flavours. For us the immediate highlights are quite obvious, those being Gosize's euphoric breakbeat adventure in the emotive chords and perfectly crafted breaks of 'Take Me To Heaven', along with Nadine's dancefloor heavy rework of 'Riff' by Nubass. A special mention has to also go to TBFM & Chilllito for their incredibly smooth 'Did You Really Care' creation.

Review: There is no escaping the majesty of the Dank N Dirty Dubz team in 2023 it would seem, as they continue their rampage in fantastic fashion, delivering a mind-melting compilation drop in celebration of 4/20. Nothing but the most bulbous dubstep heat is included, with the likes of heavyweights such as L-Wiz, Khromi, Nightmare & Oni, SubtleMind and more all delivering face-melting originals. As always, we get to enjoy a wide range of original steppers' heat, from Legend4ry's percussive-driven roller in 'Closer', to the system-smashing subs and dubwise marches of 'Connected Through The Sound' from CONTRA'. Having cleverly built interest in this, their first artist compilation, by revealing a track at a time, the album is set to put the label (and the artists!) firmly on the map. Review: The work of two producers - Nicolas Molio and Choukry Chamsa - Chic Flowerz both compile and contribute heavily to this latest collection of fresh and very large house and electro. Though the title may suggest a demure vibe, there's actually some real mainroom fire and energy within these thirty tracks, with some especially sweaty numbers such as Basto's remix of the evergreen "Gypsy Woman", CC Birdy Mind's sweet-as-sugar "You" and Chic Flowerz own signature version of "Lady Marmalade".
