Review: Kojak Giant Sounds became a really big deal in the re-edit world some years ago due to their top quality vinyl releases. Then things went quiet, but last year we saw their vinyl offerings return. Ebony Cuts' Carrie On was one such 12" which now appears in digital form for all those without turntables. The title track sees rumbling house beats underpin jazzy tropical loops full of cruise ship keys and xylophones. Get your Hawaiian shirts ready. Also included is "Oba Chule (remix)" which sees the ship call at a western African port for some gently tweaked Afro-funk grooves.

Review: Soul Clap describe their latest offering as "expertly crafted R&B-tinged electronic music for a better tomorrow". A touch hyperbolic, perhaps but a fairly accurate description in many ways. There are four tracks, each of which is presented in full vocal and instrumental variations. The long-serving twosome first join forces with Life on Planets on 'Extravaganza', a percussively rubbery, sub-heavy shuffle topped off with impeccable lead vocals, before opting for a more colourful, synth-laden disco-meets-house flex on Ebony Houston hook-up 'Something in My Heart' (an acapella version of which is tucked away at the end of the EP). Life on Planets return on jungle-tempo breakbeat workout 'Rick Fredkin', before Saucy Lady and Greg Paulus lend a hand on the seductively sleazy and weighty EP highlight 'Keep Reaching'.

Review: The earlier editions of the Beach Diggin' series were released in the depths of winter, but this new fifth instalment continues to buck the trend by appearing at the height of summer. Ibiza veterans Mambo & Guts are once again at the helm, providing us with 13 more 'perfect soundtracks for a lazy day at the beach' (there's also a 40 min mix too!). Highlights include the squelchy electronic funk of Raphael Toine's "Femmes Pays Douces", the sleek Italo-disco/Balearica of Andre-Marie Tala's "Sweet Dole" and the Rebles' impossibly tropical soca cover of Sade's "Sweetest Taboo".
