Review: Two years after unleashing his superb debut album on E-Beamz, Goncalo Salgado AKA Lake Haze pops up on Shall Not Fade with a similarly impressive sequel. Often immersive, dreamy and melodic, the set sees the Portuguese producer and sometime Cr?me Organization artist expertly combining elements of deep house, breakbeat, broken beat, electro and acid on a series of spacey, ear-catching cuts. This hybrid style is probably best epitomised by the bubbly slow acid number 'She Took Me To Her Favourite Club', the shuffling deep house melancholy of 'Always By Your Side' and the chunky-but-intergalactic sounding brilliance of 'Liquid Serotonin', but to be honest all eight tracks are excellent.

Review: Lisbon-based Goncalo Salgado aka Lake Haze returns to Shall Not Fade for his third release entitled Henosis, where he experiments with the retro, computer-love aesthetic of chiptune and video game music across 10 tracks. There's the influence of early '90s British IDM on opening cut "Xyleac", some sublime ambient works to be experienced on "Shores Of Eternal Life" or "Blue Suzuki", and deeply contemplative electro beats on the cryptically titled "so45101-51-16" and "Dith0xove" respectively.

Review: UK house duo Full Intention come back after a decent spell away fully loaded with this huge new tune for Strictly Rhythm. With vocalist Haze locked in for some deep-throated melodies on the builds, the duo work up an effortless drop into a main room-meets-tropical beat that brings just a taste of Latin/Balearic fever to the floor. One half of rising stars TWR72, Rogerseventytwo, takes up the remix challenge with a massive yet minimal rerub that'll certainly find favour with anyone digging Brodinski's latest releases.

Review: If African jazz and hi-life are your bag then you'll find much to enjoy on this four-tracker from Haze City, who heads up the Casse Records label but here does the do for fellow Bristolians Boogie Cafe. The stuttering, hip-shakin' rhythms of 'Drums' set the tone, 'Akula' treads a slightly deeper, mellower path, 'Ai Eyah' comes the closest of the four to straight-up bruk beat and should give the jazz dancers plenty of scope to flex, while 'The Rattles, The Bells' (the pick for yours truly) pays homage to Ghanaian music as it takes us into more experimental territory, and packs some seriously bowel-bothering sub-bass.

Late Night Trip
Late Night Trip - (3:52) 130 BPM Hot
Need For Speed - (3:52) 127 BPM
Played by: DJ Haus [UTTU]
Review: Lisbon producer Lake Haze pops his UTTU cherry here with two classy forays into the world of his beloved UK garage. The boy's done good with these new additions to the label's revered catalogue - "Late Night Trip" is a stomping 4 x 4 wobble belter wrapped in typically trippy, bleepy melodies. However, with its laser blasts, epic synthlines and heavy tropical rhythms, "Need For Speed" ain't just Tom Cruise's favourite, it's ours too!

Review: Lisbon producer Lake Haze returning to the bastion that is the UTTU imprint with Force Of Nature, an excursion into pure UK styles, fusing classic grime, house, garage and dubstep into a fresh-sounding whole. The elemental names should tell you all you need to know about how fierce these tracks are, with "Tsunami Riddim" and "Lightning Riddim" primed for club play. There's another side though in "Brandy Riddim" and "Vapor Riddim" which takes things back to the '90s - another essential grip from DJ Haus' label!

Apollonia - (5:05) 127 BPM
Love In Lux (DJ Boring remix) - (7:58) 129 BPM
Played by: Honey Soundsystem
Review: Lake Haze aka Goncalo Salgado has a small but impressive catalogue that includes records on Creme and One Eyed Jacks, but arguably his best material has been reserved for Unknown To The Unknown. Here, he delivers two contrasting but impressive sounds. The title track is a rich, symphonic house track, its evocative strings and slightly cheesy keys calling to mind Ibizan sunsets. By contrast, "Apollonia" sees Haze get busy with his drum machine and Roland to deliver a furious acid workout that has shades of Armando. Meanwhile, DJ Boring offers another perspective to bear with his remix of the title track. Stripping away the melodies, he delivers a firing, bleepy workout.

Recurring Melancholy EP
Recurring Melancholy (feat Hoffmann Ensemble) - (6:50) 120 BPM Hot
Hurt (feat Robert Owens) - (2:55) 120 BPM
A Delicate Life (feat MO) - (6:44) 120 BPM
Review: Jay Haze is back! The Tuning Spork/Contexterrior boss who made it big in the mid noughties minimal boom presents "Recurring Melancholy", featuring a bit of help from the Hoffmann Ensemble who together create a bittersweet and emotive deep house jam with swirling Rhodes, dreamy synths and subtle rhythms. "Hurt" features the vocal talents of the inimitable Robert Owens on this smooth and dub laden R&B jam, while "A Delicate Life" (feat MO) finishes off the EP in summery latin house flavour, reminiscent of early John Beltran or Ian Pooley.

Ottoman Pipes - (6:27) 114 BPM
Four Kings - (6:08) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Jay Haze is back! The Contexterrior/ Tuning Spork boss is back after a break of five years releasing on the label and has teamed up with the shadowy Kaan Bulak for the 1840 EP. Starting out nicely with the Ry Cooderish vibes of the title track with country guitar, violins backed by subdued percussive elements and warm bass pulsations; this track can get you properly drifting in the same way Crosstown Rebels do at the moment; esoteric vibes! Next up "Ottoman Pipes" is all bleeps and broken beats beneath exotic percussion like its name would suggest. Finally they save the best for last on "Four Kings", which is dubby and hypnotic minimal in the vein of fellow legends Butane or Jeremy P Caulfield.

Review: Another week, another top bass release from Dutch fellas Top Billin. This time, however, they've really pulled out the stops, finding possibly Japan's best (only?) bass-fiend, Keisuke Ito aka Broken Haze. Mixing up everything from bass and house to electro and dubstep, this EP is really on fire. Highlights include "Battles Of Empires" which sees ravey pitch-bent synths married to stomping reggaeton, the video game-meets-moombahton fest that is "Lightning Flash" and the bouncy tropical synth workout, "Air Castles".

Third Eyez Open (feat Tyree Cooper) - (6:53) 123 BPM
Chamber Of Love - (8:25) 125 BPM
Snoop Hang Low (feat Michael Ho) - (6:47) 120 BPM
Review: Jay Haze may have been lumped in with the minimal explosion, but the often outspoken US producer has so much to offer than plinky-plonky hamster fart rhythms. "I Can Love You" shows why he is such a maverick; featuring a high-pitched falsetto - think Prince in particularly tight pants - its tumbling rhythm is also endowed with the kind of melancholic synths that prevailed on Autechre's Amber. At the other end of the spectrum is "Snoop Hang Low"; featuring a contribution from Michael Ho, its doubled up drums provide the basis for dense, glitchy percussion. But Haze is also a producer with a track record for making deep dance floor tracks and the spacey, layered chords of "Third Eyez Open" and "Chamber of Love" are testament to this.

Around (Subb-an remix) - (7:21) 124 BPM
Review: Faced with a deluge of ultra-serious industrial techno, Noir & Haze have pushed in the opposite direction. "Around" is a spacey but catchy arrangement, its billowing chords sweeping along the melancholic vocals. Solomun from Diynamic provides two top-quality remixes which turn the original into a dubby groove laced with trancey riffs, while the extended instrumental version is more techno-centric, glistening with shiny synth solos. However, it's the acoustic version of "Around" that will win mainstream support. The vocals are transformed into the campest falsetto this side of the Vatican's Eunuch Choir and the string-led, organic groove is nothing short of seductive.

Volcanic Fields - (4:08) 134 BPM Hot
Review: Goncalo Salgado aka Lake Haze is a modern-day underground hero, with a catalogue that includes releases on key imprints like Cultivated Electronics and Cr?me Organization. Volcanic Fields, his latest EP for Atlantic Thunder, is sure to endear him further to lovers of widescreen electro and techno. "Underwater Magma" is based on a wiry rhythm and features dramatic synth sweeps, with this combination coming across like Lost Trax at their most majestic. The title track sees Haze delve deeper into electro; led by a wiry bass and crisp 808s, a haunting synth line envelops the arrangement, making for a spellbinding mix of esotericism and funk.

It is, somewhat remarkably, the legendary Detroiter's first commercially available mix set. This triple-vinyl edition features a whopping 19 cuts - all in unmixed form - from the 30 track mix. Musically, it's a blazed, jazzy, soulful and groovy as you'd expect, and contains a mixture of downtempo beats, nu-jazz and hazy house cuts from the likes of Flying Lotus, Dopehead, Peter Digital Orchestra, Nightmares On Wax, Soulful Session and Lady Alma.

For those of us unable to attend in person, this accompanying compilation is the next best thing. Beginning with Pier Bucci's fittingly titled, and deliciously trippy, "Mayans", we get the exotic and trancey "The Prophecy" by Quenum, Matthew Jonson's sinister tech-houser "In Search Of A New Planet With Oxygen", the sublime "Cosmic Dancer" by Francesca Lombardo, the urgent menace of "Greed Insanity" by Fur Coat and the haunting, end-of-the-world vibes of "2012" by Jay Haze.

Review: Make no mistakes: Ruffneck Ting are smashing it on a whole new level this year! Bombarding the game with beat after beat, barely a month has gone by with a Ruffneck roll-out session. The Xtraordinary League Of Junglists takes this proliferation to a whole new level with 20 killer cuts from some of the label's firmest friends and family. Every cut is a highlight but you'd be off your nut not to check the clinically obese classical mid-90s jump up bass of "War", the sprung-out Bingo bounces of "All 2 Myself", the piano-slapping feel good rave workout "All Through The Night" or the dubbed-out trickery of "Hazey Dub". Need we go on? Ruffneck Ting have been on this ting since dot and they're rolling out some of their finest right here. Essential.

Review: With the wealth of Miami Music Week compilations out there allow us to filter through the bunch to bring you a selection of Armada Music must-haves. A big label player in the EDM scene, the Dutch hub scoops out this mega compilation taking in a wealth of new and recognised producers, remixers to extended rarities and bonus tracks. Kicking off with Loud Luxury's summer glazed ballad "Cold Feet", Lost Frequencies, too, plays on a poppy, R&B and folk tip in "Beat Of My Heart". For the real club vibes look no further than Claude VonStroke's "All My People In The House" - Detroit Grand Pubahs, where love you too - with Kevin De Vries delivering straight up techno vibes to Chicane classic "Saltwater". Find the neon-lit trance in Kasablanca's "Hold Me Close" and the EDM rave in epic compilation closer: "Light Side Of The Harmony (FYH 200 Anthem)".

Review: Now if there was one label we could say really fuses the void between system culture, dubstep and dub music, it would have to be Artikal Music, who here arrive on the scene again with absolute peach of a release from Quasar. We kick off with a ride through the dubwise snare delays and pulsating subs of the title track 'Soundsystem Addict', followed by the alien drum switches of 'Oops', a tasty collaboration with Haze0. Next, 'Post Echo Dub' arrives with a bag of potent sub pressure and onedrop rhythms, finishing up with the marching drum lines of 'Dub Speech'.

Review: Berlin tech house legend Michael Vater aka Phonique returns to Marc Romboy's Systematic to unleash his third contribution for the imprint. Renowned for his outstanding remix skills, he is fresh off the release of his recent album on the Ladies and Gentlemen imprint in addition to releases for Pokerflat, Souvenir Music, Great Stuff Recordings and many more. Starting off with the melodic deepness of the title track, the driving arpeggiations of "You Want It" channel that Innervisions style hi-tech soul kind of aesthetic. The deep tribal house of "Pulsate" is great for the afterhours and is quite reminiscent of The Mountain People until finally we get treated to a remix of the title track by Berlin legend Smash TV.

Review: In honour of the imprint's fifth birthday, Boogie Cafe founders Jimmy The Twin and Alex Dinham have decided to offer up a first label compilation containing previously unheard tracks from their growing family of artists. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing among the woozy deep house, shuffling broken beats, seductive synth-boogie and retro-futurist US garage on offer, with highlights including the musically expansive brilliance of Sean McCabe's "Infinity", the slick New Jersey bump of Goshawk's "Home (Throwback Vibe Mix)", the Balearic nu-disco bliss of Piers Kirwan's "Shout", the spacey Afro-bruk shapes of EVM128's "Tuff" and the sub-heavy dancehall-soul bounce of Haze City's broken house gem "Yer Tiz". Top stuff from the Bristol-based imprint: don't let it pass you by!

Review: Is there a more on-form label right now than Boogie Cafe The Bristol-based imprint is certainly in a rich vein of form, as this second compilation of previously unheard treats proves. In fact, it's such a fabulous collection of cuts that singling out just a few tracks for praise is particularly tough. Even so, our current favourites include the slinky, synth-laden deep house/jazz-funk fusion of BRS's "Get In There", the drowsy downtempo hip-hop beats of Chezz's "Yeah Baby", the late '80s New Jersey garage revivalism of Goshawk's "Got You All Night", the Seiji style broken beat business that is Lord Leopard's "Magic Hands" and the Latin-fired disco-house bump of J Morrison's "Mullet Frenzy".

Review: Sub-titled "the fragile connections we make in today's muddy world of clouds, ego harvesting and AI driven augmented-realities", this compilation on TLR's Creme label moves its way through a series of styles and sounds. From the low-tempo beats of Rhythmic Theory's "Sleeper Cell" to the clanging industrial rhythm and spooked acid of R's "Iron Tusk", and Ekman's wild electro funk "Ecophagy Is A Way Of Life", Nexus succeeds in conjuring up a dense, somewhat bleak mood. Even on more dance floor-focused tracks like Simoncino's super deep "Vingas Theme and the new school jack of DB's "XXX" and", there's an otherworldly atmosphere running through the firing snares and steely grooves.

Review: Germany's Musik Krause, a Freude Am Tanzen offshoot, has been looming on the back of our minds for quite some time. By that, we mean that we were wondering where the label had gone, and we were dearly missing their grey-scaled strand of teched-out deep house. This Reloaded compilation is a comprehensive collection of some of the label's best stuff from the last ten years, a much-needed revamping of tunes from the likes of Soulphiction, the great Portable, Workshop's Even Tuell, Jay Haze, and Metaboman. Check it out, this stuff is rare on physical format, so this is the place to go.

Review: With Hot Creations hurtling towards global dancefloor domination at a furious pace, it's down to their Hot Waves label to serve up more intriguing underground treats. This fourth collection of previously unreleased odds and ends features some contributions from well-known names - see Buckley's party-hearty, ragga-tinged "Back To The Tower" and the strobe light shuffle of Simon Baker and Robert James' "Get Up High" - but mostly impresses with its support of new and little-known talent. Few, for example, will have heard of Human Life & Annabel Englund (whose "Falling" is a synth-pop flavoured deep house delight) or Denny (check the thrilling, cowbell-powered "Shake The Club"), but their unheralded contributions stand out. If you're after hot new house, look no further.
