Review: Revan, AKA one-half of Ill Truth, and Parallel Identities, have joined forces on this mighty fine single for Sofa Sound. It's a tight, gritty release that takes the fractious ethos of DLR's imprint and injects it with tumbling tech textures, a venomous combo which is dying to be heard over a system. The B-side is the major standout, as 'My Reality' shapeshifts in form, morphing and moving with clear sophistication, a stunningly well-produced track that dives deep only to resurface with your head in its jaws. Big.
Review: It's the onset of a brave new era for Ostgut Ton as Panorama Bar 06 signals the label's decision to halt the manufacturing of CDs for their much loved series of mixes. Due for free download via the Ostgut site on August 11, the Berlin operation have not forgone the vinyl format with all the exclusives gathered by mix curator Ryan Elliott pressed up across a pair of 12" samplers. And boy did Elliott call in the favours with this first sampler featuring new and unreleased music from Neworldaquarium, Roman Flugel, Terrence Dixon, Tuff City Kids and Borrowed Identity. It is an overall exquisite selection, running from the ambience of NWAQ's contribution to Flugel's big room stomper and the sweeter, more playful sounds of Tuff City Kids and Borrowed Identity.
Review: Freiburg's Borrowed Identity has been one of the busiest producers of 2015, and arguably also one of the most consistent. This 12" for Let's Play House offshoot LPH White marks his fifth (and presumably final) EP of the year, and contains six bumpin', no-nonsense house workouts to entertain festive floors. He begins by joining forces with regular collaborator Mechanical Soul Brother on the low-slung, Junior Vasquez-influenced late night bump of "Vogue", before smothering a thickset groove with rich Rhodes chords and bluesy vocal samples on "Feelings For You". Other highlights include the stompin', piano-heavy goodness of "Tell Me Why", the thumping late night techno of "Red Acid Clouds", and the locked-in, late night basement throb of "Into The Blue".
