Review: It's all kicking off at Souped Up HQ. First they tell us Voltage is our real dad and it seems Dutta is being ousted as our naughty uncle coercing us into god knows what type of mischief with some of his most cantankerous sounds and flavours yet. "Tiger Claw" is pure drum riot funk, "Reload" (with Jakes) is insanely smooth, "Wash Away" (with Serum) packs all the raffish thrills and spills of an early Hazard joint, "Woah" is a deep sci-fi roll-out that takes off where "Trooper" left us the other month while "OG" closes on venomous growl flex. Wowzers... These will singe your trousers.

Avec feat Jake Shears
Review: A brand new project from Doorly and Dave Spoon (AKA Shadow Child), Avec are all about the classic house vibes. Coming at you like a Mr Fingers-meets-Kenny Dope-meets-Hercules & Love Affair joint; this contemporary retrospective oozes timeless class. With cut-up vocal samples, staccato synth stabs, a warm bass groove and some arm-raising dynamics, it's an instant pleaser. Oh, and there's the not-so-small matter of Mr Scissor Sisters Jake Shears on vocals too. In a word: huge.

Review: Jakes' Hench imprint has always led from the very front of the dubstep game. Brandishing some of the genre's most uncompromising, ruthless and forward-thinking blends, Hench is a genre unto itself. Hitting the big five-oh, the label have commissioned 19 originals from its accomplished contributors and family members. The result is a deadly document that showcases dubstep's continuous versatility, physicality and visceral dynamics. From the balance of dreamy sonic spirals and vicious waspy bass on Vodex & Eddie K's "Cosmic" to the sizzling tears and sirens of MRK 1 and Trigga's "Veteran" via Jakes' very own militant bass sermon "Damn Son", everything about this collection is heavyweight. Hench have consistently lived to their name. Give them 500 more releases and the message will still be the same.

Review: Strictly 140 have a real reputation of releasing only the best music within their realms, a theme they seem to have continued here as the inspiring sounds of Jake Plisken are put on display across four weighty creations. We begin with 'Blunts' an spacey combination of brow-raising saxophone melodies and choppy rhythms. This is then reworked by WZ who gives the track a more distant, minimal feel with his epic overhaul. From here we then take in 'Syfer', a trippy journey for cloudy chord intervals and creeping LFOs. To round off, Muttley sends this one to the blender, unleashing some vibrant drums switches to finish up in style.

Review: Following the first part of their Preemptive Action compilation, Pareto Park return with part 2; first up are Perc Trax's Dead Sound & Videohead, offering the hefty broken techno of "Pay Your Due" which has much in common with Forward Strategy Group's hefty but measured productions. Label boss George Lanham's "Rationale For Revenge" is similarly brutal, bashing out an overdriven chord over distended drone sirens, while Jake Conlon's "Pull Your Neck In" takes the pace up considerably with its jackhammer kicks and throbbing bass pulse. Ryogo Yamamori's "Hammer" offers his own industrial take on acid complete with sonorous metallic snares, and Morfogen's "Morfokone" provides a suitably underground take on big room techno with its rapid, almost trance like arpeggio. All in all a tidy package from one of techno's most promising young labels.

Review: The vowel-less RVRSL label's second release comes courtesy of Hench Music man Jakes and he delivers four club-ready cuts of bass-weighted darkness, and the acid flecks in "One Day" are deadly when paired next to track's the slashing snares. It's all rave, spooky sound effects and a 'yah' vocal in "Tru Thought" while "Realm", and it's spiralling loop, is as punk rocky in attitude as it is heavy in bass modulation. For some supercharged beats check out "Tuning Dub" for one last slab of rhythm and drums.
