Review: Crystalline sonic euphoria Koven continue to fly the flag for emotional electronic music with this stunning string-drenched roller. Folly Rae's vocals are delivered with emphatic authenticity while the organic beats sway with a soft militancy. Instant end-of-night hug sessions abound. For a sense of peaktime activity head for The Prototypes' remix: turbo-charged D&B that retains every ounce of the original's heartfelt beauty. Or flip for Habstrakt's remix: rugged drumstep-influenced dubstep where the emotion is galvanised by cutlass-like mid-range bass stabs. Powerful stuff. If you're going to listen to one new track this week, make it "Make It There".
Review: Futurebound's Viper continue their adventures into the wider world of bass by signing the exciting new act Koven. Having broken through on UKF's mighty streaming machine, this is the band's first full release. Opening with a cascade of lush guitars and soul-prodding vocals, we're then pushed headfirst into a rocket-fuelled bass drop. Need a massive D&B reboot? Then jump up and down on DC Breaks' remix.
Review: Got a lighter? Then get ready to raise it. Haven't got a lighter? Start smoking... Koven most certainly are with this brand new EP. Stadium bass enriched in emotion, Max and Katie showcase their broadest abilities across four tracks here: the smouldering halfstep yearns of "From The Start", the bright, breezy Kove-like D&B tones of "One's Own", the Olympic-level lover's theme "Get This Right" and the slower, swinging ebbs and flows and orchestral dynamics of "Lasting"... Each cut comprising their widest screen portrait to date. Essential for those special tingly moments every good set necessitates.
