Review: London-based Italian Riva Starr recently presented his fourth long-player on Adam Beyer's Truesoul. He has stated that he is always evolving, so every now and again he needs to make a point about his latest sound. Curveballs has been especially written to showcase the full range of his sonic repertoire and features a carefully selected collection of tracks designed for a club environment. The Snatch! head honcho now presents to you Curveballs Remixed - comprising of three versions: Drumcode wunderkind Layton Giordani delivers a electrifying rework of "The Hole" that's reminiscent of classic Dubfire, the controversial Marquis Hawkes delivers an emotive and bittersweet perspective of "Piknik" (One Night In Tbilisi remix) and album highlight "Disco Loco" gets a funked-up and full throttle makeover by Glasgow Underground's Harvey McKay.
Review: House DJs MYNC offer an exhaustive overview of the tracks that rocked the long-running White Island venue this summer. In the soulful corner, there's the Maxi Soundsystem take on Boris Dlugosch's "Look Around You". Featuring Roisin Murphy on vocals, it does a lot to sweep away the rainy autumn blues. Ten Walls deliver the trancey goods in the shape of "Gotham", which revolves around a belching bassline, but the most notable aspect of Ibiza 2013 is the way minimal producers have come into the house fold. Loco Dice borrows a prog house bassline for 'Detox' and Luciano's "Rise Of The Angel" - remixed here by Andrea Oliva - is a piano-led, wide eyed deep anthem.
Review: Brightonian beat agitators Skint celebrate two decades of party science with a whopping 32 track compendium of highlights. Ranging from quintessential big beat (Midfield General, Indian Ropeman, Lo Fidelity Allstars) to quirky, lop-jawed techno (Roman Flugel, Tomas Andersson, Dave Clarke) via chunky, dirty-bottomed house music (Riva Starr, Foamo, X-Press 2) and perfectly formed left-minded pop music (Fatboy Slim, Tiga), Skint's successes can be found in almost every corner of the dance... Including the harder-to-categorise unique, forgotten classics such as FC Kahuna's evergreen "Hayling" and Justice's new wave pop strutting remix of Vicarious Bliss. Happy anniversary Skint!
