Review: Remember the deliciously dark art of sample craft? Mystic Trip does; and "This Feeling" captures it gracefully. Just a swaying woodwind chord change from a dusty record is all you need with the right rolling breaks and dreamy flutters for a killer woozy infectious groove. "Simon Says" works on a similar swooning tip but this time with a jazzier, mildly Roy Ayers style sound. Subtle, understated and solid; a great label debut.
Review: Dubbing his music "future-soul", London's own Mystic Trip takes elements from jazz, soul and R&B and pits them against jungle breaks and liquid rollers to create very interesting, languid drum & bass. Released on UK label Quondam who have made it their intention from the outset to send only inspiring, unique music out into the world, this EP shows Mystic Trip's diversity as a producer. "Questions At The End" hosts those amens that have been infiltrating mixes for some time now; the rest of the EP is ambitious but still chilled. Lovely stuff.
