Review: Having reached its seventeenth volume, the Total series is making its transition from adolescence into adulthood, but it has lost none of its youthful charms. Like previous editions, it features highlights from the German label's recent releases - including anthems from Laurent Garnier and The Orb - alongside some new gems. The latter category sees Thomas/Mayer deliver the tripped out, acid playfulness of "25", while Kompakt regular Superpitcher chimes in with the angelic vocals and skipping groove of "In My Head". Speaking of otherworldly moments, Jurgen Paape's "Always Disko" is a spaced out disco track from another dimension. Trends and fads come and go, but Kompakt will forever remain a constant, defined by its Total series.

Review: This summer, Steve Lawler is hosting a midweek party at Sankeys Ibiza under the Viva Warriors title. Here, he joins forces with fellow resident Darius Syrossian to lay down a two disc mix set that touches on all of his usual inspirations. That means an atmospheric trawl through nuggety darkroom house, tribal flavours and murky tech-house, with additional helpings of basement-baiting New York deepness and European fluidity. In truth, Viva Warriors is arguably more fun and upbeat than many of Lawler's recent mixes, suggesting a new-found love of reaching out for the lasers and hip-wigglin' groovery. Maybe that's Syrossian's influence; either way, it makes for an enjoyable two-disc mix-up.

Review: Last year, London DJ crew and party promotion outfit SlothBoogie delivered one of the compilations of the year, a wonderfully eclectic and on-point set entitled Dancing With Friends. According to the crew, they spent even more time carefully curating this welcome sequel. You can tell, too. Kicking off with the tactile, slow-burn deep house yearning of Soul Won's '96 to Albert Park', the 21-track collection ambles, strides and jogs between soul-flecked deep house (see Kemback's brilliant 'I Know What You're Thinking'), driving nu-disco (Jesse Bru), swirling deep jackers (Erik Ellmann's 'Private Talk'), loopy disc-house haziness (the always excellent Felipe Gordon), jazz-flecked acid squelch-alongs (Pablot), deep space sample house (Sam Irl) and high-octane, peak-time insanity (The Revenge). Simply brilliant.

Review: Throughout the latter part of 2015, some anonymous Plus 8 white labels started to appear in Hard Wax, leading to some speculation. If the rumours were anything to go by, the legendary Richie Hawtin may have ventured back into the studio. And here we have it, a new album by Hawtin entitled "From My Mind To Yours" featuring some new material, the first in many years as well as some revised classics. Hawtin is said to have invested in and sought inspiration from the new AIRA series of Roland machines such as the TR-8 and the results speak for themselves. From the 13-minute long acid epic "No Way Back" to classic material from his old FUSE moniker featuring the rusty and high octane sounds of Detroit in the early nineties, there's some real gems on here. New Plastikman tracks such as "Purrkussiv" explore his stripped back rhythmic minimalism that he's famous for, while his new alias 80xx explores new acid capabilities like on the droning and hypnotic "Creatur" or "Grindr".

Review: Three years on and Subway Recordings has firmly established themselves as one of the foremost Dutch dubstep labels, yet they do not by any means limit themselves to genre or sound. This Destination compilation takes us through the grimey, the dark, the deep, the dancefloor and the experimental in turn. Noah D's "Hardcore" kicks off with a thrilling combination of jagged neon synths and harsh sub bass cheekiness, before Akkachar & Taz Buckfaster drop sci fi sounds on "187 On A Rock" and DJ Madd delivers the twitching Ramandanman sensibilities of "Bass Comedown". Mayhem & Whisperlink provide an early highlight with "Trap Or Die" filled with bleepy SFX and dark, rumbling basslines underpinning the ominous, vocodered vocal sample. Rivalling this is "Rumble" by Reso & Vent - a sure fire dancefloor driven killer. Here the rowdy, bass-heavy wobbles and smacking drum kicks really up the ante and we are transported deep into the peaktime heavy hitters. All in all, it's a comprehensive array of tracks here from some highly talented, genre-pushing artists which should, really, not be missed.

Review: What a collection we have here as the ever-rampaging Time Is Now Machine unleash the third edition of their 'Allstars' compilation project, featuring six heavyweight originals from some of the most creative dancefloor names about. Y U QT kicks us off with a 2-step masterclass, alternating between shimmering chord stabs and dippy LFO basslines, with the glittering atmospherics and distant vocal lines of 'Regatta' from Cortese and straight 4x4 moogy pulses of Prozak's 'Next To You' in close pursuit. From here, Yosh takes a bit switch up and delivers the post-jungle inspired drum work of 'To Me', which again ups the pace of the whole compilation, with the shuffling 2-step drives and nostalgia-inducing organ chords of 'Pull Up Tool' from Main Phase then providing another different direction. Finally, Groovy D delivers a dancefloor singalong, with the rich vocal sweeps of 'Wun4Me' then putting the final touches on the project and seeing it out in style.

Review: Amsterdam production unit U Know The Drill first surfaced last year with some rough and ready contributions to split releases on Slapfunk and Music Is Love that evidently impressed UTTU lynchpin DJ Haus. Off The Chain finds the pair debuting on Hot Haus with a two track of rowdy, dressed to sweat house action that sits nicely alongside recent efforts on the label from Steve Murphy and Palace. The title track shamelessly embraces the art of the banger with some absolutely devilish sub bass manoeuvres, whilst "Like Thiz" initially feels a bit more restrained. Give it a minute or so and the Dutch pair unleashes a killer rave drop that ramps up the overall intensity.

Review: Budapest based artist Matt U unveils a glorious three track venture on the Subway label. Expect smacking drum kicks and moody, murky, bass in title track "Watchin U", which bears passing resemblance to Instra:mental's track "Voyeur", with its creepy message, screeching electrified synths and insidious nature. Next up, "Down With You" switches things up for a vocal-led journey into blissed out electronica with its clipped, ticking beats and electro / funk synth washes. Finishing things up with "Magma", it's back to the explosive dubstep temperament as we round off the EP. Big.

Review: Since their inception as a label entity, The Wub Club have been incredibly impressive in their maneuvers, constantly dropping exciting new bass, garage, grime and drum and bass originals with a seriously colourful feel. This latest collection is special as they unveil the first edition of their new 'Wub Club World' compilation series. The artist roster involved is pretty staggering, with the likes of Mikey B, Jack Junior, Deadbeat UK, Dr Oscillator, Event Horizon and a bag more more all getting involved, plus a highly anticipated appearance from label-owner Forca alongside the legendary Phatworld, This project captivates everything the label represents on a grand scale, that being energetic, original underground dance music, a wide range of styles and a top quality showcasing of artists from around the world. The whole project screams quality, but if we were to pick our highlights, we would have to include the outstanding melodic and vocal arrangements of Hans Glader's beautiful 'Autumn' original, next to the high energy drum and bass flavours and catchy synthetic energies of 'Say That Ur Ready' from Mr Dubz. If you are looking for a complete look into underground dance music in the UK, look no further.

Review: Stepping up on Kryptic Minds' own imprint, Osiris Music, Matt U brings us a suitably deep, dark offering. "Empty Inside" is full of brooding melancholia and withheld angst; hollow, clip clop beats and a rumbling vocal echo bleakly in a dubbed out soundscape full of trembling subs and deftly placed beats. The accompanying "Unforgiven" continues the journey with a more yearning feel, the squealing SFX and warping atmospherics hover above the b-line eerily. Deep and hypnotic, this is a fantastic offering from Matt U. One for the heads.

Review: It would appear that South London Pressings have unearthed a few serious gems with this brand new Y U QT release, seeing two lethal vocal collaborations come to the forefront. We begin with a look at Riko Dan's inclusion, with 'Dancefloor Damager' being exactly what it says on the tin, combining Y U QT's delicate UKG inspired production with Riko's rave-ready vocal energy to cause a real ruckus. We also take in something a bit more scattered with Logan's feature on 'Like That', which sees more fantastic vocal manoeuvres and another energetic final product work it's way into view. Y U QT has excelled in the production element behind both of these vocals, which is why both instrumentals have also been included in the full release for good measure.

Review: Next up from the ever-ready Hardcore Energy crew we have a momentous collection to explore, pulling together a high energy selection from some of the most forward thinking breaks producers out there right now. We begin with the euphoria-inducing chord progressions of 'Feeling Inside', upping the energy from the jump, before GHSTGHSTGHST turns up the heat further for a fiery sweep through bulbous drums and more of those throwback chord-lines. From here a much more stripped back groove as Jai Dee delivers a moogy 4x4 bubbler in 'Dancin', followed by both the high energy half-time rhythmic smashes of 'Security' from T-Cuts and unorthodox chops of 'One thicc DJ Tool' from Mincy. Finally, Annod Bloque gives us a final dash of finesse with 'Your Love', an acidic joyride through nostalgic rave energy, topped off with jittering vocal overlays and a glorious sense of harmony throughout. Excellent work!

Review: Matt-U aka Matyas Szalai is probably one of the most prolific producers of the last generation of dubsteppers to make heavy, boisterous, sub-heavy beats. This latest release comes courtesy of Pressed, and the track "Hammerhead" is a real hurter with its incessant bassline, and with both Kyza Smirnoff and Marger on the mic, the rhythm is unstoppable. "Danger" adds Foreign Beggars to the mix and packs a tight bundle of sultry beats, slow-paced grooves and subliminal messaging. We also have both instrumentals and radio edits of each tune - Matt-U is on fire!
