Mid Decade EP
Ride On - (6:23) 118 BPM Hot
Ride On (DJ Nature remix) - (6:34) 118 BPM
Mid Decade - (7:07) 118 BPM
Trespassing - (6:29) 114 BPM
Review: It's some 13 years since Fernando Pulichino made his debut as part of rubbery, dub-disco/deep house fusionists Silver City, and seven since his first solo outing on Redux. Here, he pops up on Bristol's Futureboogie Recordings with more pleasingly dubbed-out disco chuggers and sparkling nu-disco workouts. "Ride On" is classic Fernando, with the Argentine producer expertly combining a trademark punk funk bassline with spiraling synths, fluttering electronics and rolling beats. His electrofunk, Itallo-disco and Balearic influence shines through stronger on the trippy and dubby "Trespassing", while "Mid Decade" is a kind of bubbling, sun-kissed analogue nu-disco jam. There's also a neat bonus in the shape of DJ Nature's rework of "Ride On", which turns Pulichino's original into a woozy, guitar-laden deep house gem.

The Carrington Spirituals
Ron Basejam - "Time" (feat Vern) - (6:58) 120 BPM
The Carrington Spirituals - (6:18) 115 BPM Hot
Review: Crazy P man Jim Baron once more dons his Ron Basejam alter ego, delivering a strong virtual double A-side for Bristol's Futureboogie Recordings. Opener "Time" not only features some decidedly cosmic spoken word vocals from Vern, but was also co-produced by PBR Streetgang man Bonar Bradberry. In typical Baron fashion, the track is a loose, warm and inviting affair that effortlessly blends live instrumentation (guitars, bass, Clavinet) with a rolling dancefloor groove. "The Carrington Spirituals" is an altogether more urgent affair, and sees the experienced producer offering a typically attractive, horn-heavy take on loopy disco-house.

It's You (Ron Basejam remix) - (7:58) 122 BPM Hot
It's You (Eats Everything & Christophe Acid Ouse mix) - (8:00) 118 BPM
Review: Given the mystery surrounding this release - unnamed "well known London DJ/ producer" joins forces with (also uncredited) "star Bristol musician and vocalist" - it would be easy to let the music pass you by. Yet "It's You" is excellent - arguably one of the strongest Futureboogie releases to date. It eschews the label's usual styles in favour of a low-slung combination of sparse, Hot Creations-ish house rhythms, soul-aching vocals and Prince-ish 80s funk squelch. It's a great combination. Crazy P man Ron Basejam offers a deep and sunny house interpretation, whilst Bristolian housers Eats Everything and Christophe deliver a fluid fusion of disco percussion and bubblin', retro-futurist acid house.

Review: Bristolian merchants of the finest lo-slung grooves Futureboogie return, with this absolutely hot release by Holding Hands boss Desert Sound Colony and label mate Baby Rollen. The Beta Burner EP comes with added psychedelic flavours courtesy of an A Sagittariun Remix. From the bumpin' late night acid funk of the title track, it then gets a Yorkshire style '90s bleep techno rework by A Sagittariun (Re-Dream) before the loose and off-kilter electro breaks of "Dumpster Truck" (original mix) goes for something looser. Finally DSC goes solo on the funky "Seismic Soy Bean".

Abandoned Pyramid (feat Contours) - (5:36) 123 BPM
Review: Lo-fi synth maestro Ruf Dug has cordially invited us to take a short stay on "Ruffy's Island", a lesser-known tropical paradise nestled somewhere between Manchester and Madagascar. To get a better view, he first invites us to dance along aboard his "Boat Party", where cheery lead lines skip around a crackling analogue groove. Next up is guided tour of the island's "Techno Cave", a dark place where you're encouraged to dance shirtless to the accompaniment of tribal drum samples, foreboding riffs and mind-altering electronics. Lurking towards the back is Sharif Laffrey, who guides us through ten minutes of stomping beats, weirdo riffs and glassy-eyed jacking intensity. The highlight of the trip, though, may well be "Abandoned Pyramid", a dubbed-out chunk of tropical synthesizer madness constructed in cahoots with Contours.

Review: Pre-pandemic, James Dyer was a rising star on the Bristol club scene, with a trademark sound that tended towards the cosmic, chugging and otherworldly. Here he makes his production bow as Chez de Milo on local label Futureboogie, beginning brilliantly with the throbbing, paranoid and wide-eyed 'Bushwa', where intense, undulating acid lines, bleeping melodies and seriously spooky pads bubble away atop a thrusting, bass-heavy groove. His love of bleeps and ambient techno era electronics is further explored on 'Mantella' and the more dubbed-out, sub-heavy trip that is 'Golden Ratio'. Also worth a listen is the Smagghe & Cross version of 'Bushwa', which features two long dark and driving sections of trippy dancefloor pleasure divided by a brilliantly bizarre ambient breakdown.

Review: NYC-based Bristol exile Milo Johnson AKA DJ Nature has long enjoyed a good relationship with Futureboogie Recordings, having first provided remix services for the West Country label back in 2013. This, though, is still his first EP for Dave Harvey's imprint. His loose, groovy and jazz-flecked style of deep house naturally comes to the fore on warm and melodious opener "Born Lifted", while the slightly more driving, sample-heavy "My Life" recalls his early '90s work as Nature Boy. "What Isn't" is a dusty deep house producer's take on electro-tinged instrumental hip-hop (reflective of his '80s work as part of Massive Attack's Wild Bunch collective) while "Loving You More" cannily joins the dots between lo-fi deep house, Balearic dreaminess and classic jazz-funk.

Review: Bristol's Futureboogie return with some sure fire nu-disco grooves to get any party started. London's Jay Shepheard is on board with "Henry's Theme" sporting an early nineties house vibe. Next up is PBR Streetgang from Leeds doing their thing with a nice journey via a progressive house sound on "Suel Baril". There's also local Bristolian Lukas doing more of his low slung slo mo disco business and Phil Gerus with "Never Coming Back".

Tears - (5:20) 116 BPM
Review: Ron & Neil is an all-star collaboration between old buddies Jim "Ron Basejam" Baron (Crazy P), and Rack 'N' Ruin boss man Neil Diablo. Pedre Son Aclat marks the project's first appearance, with the three original tracks sitting somewhere between shimmering nu-disco, sparkling powder house, and disco-influenced grooves. The title track sets the tone, layering up colourful synthesizer chords and melodies. While tasty, Man Power's bubbly, Balearic style revision - all analogue synths, cheap drum machine hits and sleazy vocals - is arguably more satisfying. "You Feel It" is a creepy, low-slung deep house/disco hybrid blessed with killer percussive flourishes and a weighty punk funk bassline, while "Tears" is a glassy-eyed fusion of warehouse-friendly electronics and disco-funk hedonism.

Groovin To LA (dub mix) - (6:59) 125 BPM
Review: Given their extensive shared musical history and influences, you'd expect this hook-up between former Classic/Music For Freaks types Luke Solomon and Jonny Rock to contain some belting cuts. Predictably, it does. Dancefloor sweatiness is guaranteed from the start, via the undulating, Moroder-inspired bass guitar, spacey electronics, clipped guitars and dense disco percussion of "Luca Frangipan", and its' suitably trippy, more heavily electronic companion Dub. There's a breezier, looser feel to "Groovin' To La", which expertly teases out soulful vocal samples and soaring strings atop a bouncy Italo-disco/deep house/classic disco fusion groove. The accompanying Dub mix is, if anything, even stronger. Sadly, this digital version of the EP doesn't feature DJ Fett Burger & Jayda G's killer remix, so you'll have to buy the 12" to get that.

Running Amore - (6:14) 116 BPM
Review: Sometime Roam Recordings and Nein artist Zakmina has been rather quiet of late, so this outing on Bristol's increasingly assured Futureboogie Recordings label is long overdue. Titke track 'Church of Madness' is pleasingly psychedelic and mind-altering, with the publicity-shy producer layering trippy acid lines, ghostly chords and wayward electronic motifs atop a chugging, Moroder style bassline and early '80s machine drums. On his accompanying 'Ezoteric Breakdance Remix', Hungarian producer Gnork re-imagines the track as a melancholic chunk of eccentric dancefloor electro. Elsewhere, 'D?j? vu' is a foreboding, strobe-lit acid chugger capable of inducing hallucinations, while 'Running Amore' is a hedonistic, timbales-sporting late-night throb-job.

Started as a casual side project 12 years ago, Baron wanted to 'capture the more diverse and quirky sides of his musical tastes', creating underground music that he incorporates with character, personality and humour. The After The Rain EP sees him return to Bristol institution Futureboogie, for the first time since 2016's "The Carrington Spirituals". Featuring the very soulful and near spiritual title track, the lo-slung funk attack of "The French Exit " and the late night acid express of "Raise" (featuring some vocals reminiscent of the legendary Daryl Pandy) among others - each one is a a sure shot and will light up the dancefloor.

Review: Alex "Kiwi" Warren is undoubtedly a star in the making. Since he last appeared on Futureboogie in 2016, his stock has risen further thanks to fine outings on Moda Black, Blitz and 17 Steps. Predictably, this is another fine EP. We're particularly enjoying the horror-inspired Italo-disco chug of "Amityville", where Warren makes terrific use of notable vocal samples and a thickset arpeggio bassline, though DJ Tennis's breezier, disco-tinged deep house re-make is almost as good. There's more dark and throbbing Italo-disco style fun to be had via the thrillingly heavy and pulsating "Warriors", while EP closer "Paco" - all glacial, tumbling synthesizer melodies, undulating acid bass and unfussy drum machine beats - offers a more considered option for those searching for solid warm-up fare.

Review: Alexander Pletnev aka Ponty Mython is originally from Russia, but is currently settled in Vilnius, Lithuania. His releases have popped up on top labels such as Dirt Crew, Nurvous and Quintessentials in recent times - and he can now add Bristolian tastemakers Futureboogie to that list. His sleek nu-disco style of groove as heard on "Pink Tango" is a neon-lit, lo-slung balearic groove for Summertime cocktail parties. Injecting more of an '80's flavour into it is Fabrizio Mammarella (one half of Black Spuma with Lauer) working his retroverted magic as always and jam packed full of vintage synth presents. From something different, Pletnev offers up the tropical vibe of "Appreciate It While It's Not Too Late" (original mix) and its mesmerising marimba action that makes you wish you had a hammock and Pina Colada in hand.

Review: Surprisingly, this Futureboogie label debut is Toby Tobias's first single since 2018. He's clearly been in fine form in the studio, though, because it contains some real gems. Title track "Trippy Steve" is terrific - a heady, relentless late night/early morning house workout full of deep bass, weird noises, spaced-out chords, dubbed-out synthesizer motifs and whispered vocal snippets. Fantastic Man remixes, beefing up the beats and adding some aggressive, acid-syle sleaziness. Elsewhere, "Cosmic Slang" sits alone somewhere between space disco, electro and broken beat (it's a place other producers should visit more often) while "Deo Mort" is the kind of mind-altering Afro-cosmic house workout you'd expect to hear at a remote outdoor free party while off your box at 6am (assuming, of course, the DJs involved have good taste).

Review: Bristol disco stalwarts Futureboogie bring us an EP from Hungary's Andras 'Gensi' Genser that features a brace of remixes from London lad Decius. The original of 'Primavera 707' is a dreamy 'nu-disco meets melodic/organic house' affair that's served up with or without a female vocal in an unidentified language - Portuguese, maybe? Decius's remix takes the track down a more Afro-inspired route with busy, shuffling percussion and a male vocal, though again a Dub is also available. Elsewhere, 'Humble Brush' is an energetic nu-disco instrumental, while 'The Great Body Buzz' is the finest cosmic-acid meltdown you'll hear all week.

Review: Alex 'Kiwi' Warren's first outing on Futureboogie, 2018's "Amityville", was something of a gem, so hopes are naturally high for this belated follow-up. The London-based producer hits the ground running with opener "Charlie's New Vision", a dark and brooding affair that peppers a sleazy, all-action analogue bassline and unfussy dancefloor drums with a bubbly electronic lead lie, echoing blues guitar notes and tipsy spoken word snippets. Johnny Aux provides an even more druggy-sounding remix before Warren returns with "Ghiaccio", a glassy-eyed trip into deep space in which attractive, analogue sounding synthesizer lines buzz around an arpeggio-driven Euro-disco groove. Rounding off a rock solid EP is "Italian Heat", a gloriously shirtless and celebratory dance through revivalist, early'80s Italo-disco pastures.

Review: Four cuts here from Mexico's Mateo Gonzalez - better known as Theus Mago - that will suit those who like their disco on the more electronic/leftfield/experimental side. Opener 'Apache Nights', for instance, owes far more to bleep techno and the early Warp sound than it does to the likes of (say) Chic or Earth Wind & Fire, while the accompanying Chicken Lips re-rub comes on like Kraftwerk jamming with Rennie Pilgrem. 'Piu Mosso' is a more straight-up homage to early 80s Euro/Italo disco and centres around an infectious, Arabic-sounding hook, while finally closer 'Sergio Ramos' could work in disco/Italo/EBM and progressive house sets alike.

Review: It's been almost a year since the last Futureboogie release, and it was about time the Bristol label landed a new artist on their roster; after all, they're only responsible for bringing out talent such as Julio Bashmore! Although Cassio Kohl surfaced a couple of years ago, he's been quiet on the releasing front, but he's back with three hot 'n' bumpy floor nuggets coated in a house flavour. "Let It Be Me" has a Chicago lick with a bouncy bassline and plenty of sweet atmospherics, while "Hear Me" is funkier with that fuzzy slap bass, and "Come Together" goes for the swing thanks to those skippy percussion stabs and rolling bass shots. Seductive and effective, perfect for the warm up hours.

Dont Mess My Head (Dave Aju remix) - (6:22) 117 BPM Hot
Review: Curiously, Warehouse Preservation Society's slim discography contains numerous acclaimed remixes for labels such as Rogue Cat Sounds and Wicked, but only one original production - a contribution to a multi-artist EP on Love on the Rocks. 'Endlessly', then, is their debut single - and very good it is too. In its original form, the track is druggy, trippy and seeped in old school nostalgia, with tactile synthesizer motifs and stabbing electronic motifs rising above a psychedelic, acid-style bassline and metronomic drums. 'Dublessly' is even sleazier and darker in tone, offering a superb, warehouse-ready alternative. 'Don't Mess My Head' is more percussive but no less dirty, doffing a cap to both proto-house and NYC freestyle, while Dave Aju's electro-influenced remix is even more sweaty, bass-heavy and drum-laden.
